Multiposition alignment of strapdown inertial navigation system

The authors demonstrate that the stationary alignment of strapdown inertial navigation system (SDINS) can be improved by employing the multiposition/technique. Using an observability analysis, it is shown that an optimal two-position alignment not only satisfies complete observability conditions but also minimizes alignment errors. This is done by analytic rank testing of the stripped observability matrix and numerical calculation of the error covariance. It is also shown that an optimal three-position alignment accelerates the convergence of the alignment error compared with two-position alignment     

Improved Switching Converter Model Using Discrete and Averaging Techniques

The nonlinear modeling and analysis of dc-dc converters has been done by averaging and discrete-sampling techniques. The averaging technique is simple, but inaccurate, as the modulation frequencies approach the theoretical limit of one-half the switching frequency. The discrete technique is accurate even at high frequencies, but is very complex and cumbersome. An improved model is developed by combining the aforementioned techniques. This new model is easy to implement in circuit and state variable forms and is accurate to the theoretical limit.     

Nondestructive Characterization of RBSOA of High-Power Bipolar Transistors

Reverse-bias safe operating area (RBSOA) of high-power Darlington transistors is characterized using a 120 A/1000 V nondestructive reverse-bias second breakdown tester designed and fabricated at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Elaborate RBSOA characteristics are generated with different forward/reverse base drives and collector current levels. The effects of elevated case temperature and second-base drive on RBSOA of four-terminal Darlington devices are also discussed.     

Comparison of half-bridge off-line, ZCS-QRC and ZVS-MRC

The performance of the half-bridge (HB) zero-current-switched (ZCS) quasi-resonant converter (QRC) and zero-voltage-switched (ZVS) multiresonant converter (MRC) is compared with respect to their efficiency, input voltage range, semiconductor stresses, power density, and reliability. The efficiency of the HB ZVS-MRC at a given nominal input is shown to be highly dependent on the range of the input voltage, and it suffers when the converter has to be designed to cover a wide range. However, this is not the case for the HB ZCS-QRC. Experimental versions of the HB ZCS-QRC and HB ZVS-MRC were designed for the input voltage range from 150 to 350 V and a maximum output power of 100 W, under the same constraints, to facilitate their comparison     

Analysis and Design of Series Resonant Converter by State-Plane Diagram

Analysis based on the state-plane diagram is given for series resonant converters operating in the frequency range 0.5 ? fs/fo ? 1.0. When the voltages and currents in the converter are normalized, design parameters take on special geometric meanings in the normalized state diagram. Examples of converter design using graphical methods are given for the cases of ? and ? control. Control characteristics of the converter operating in the continuous conduction mode are derived. The concept of the energy reflection coefficient is introduced as a measure of power transfer efficiency in the converter design.     

Extensions of the Discrete-Average Models for Converter Power Stages

An improved power converter model is developed by combining the average and discrete modeling techniques. The parameter determination of the proposed discrete-average model is shown to be dependent on the type of duty cycle control law and the nature of the error processor used in the feedback loop. Furthermore, the paper pinpoints deficiencies of the conventional loop gain measurement technique which is widely used in industries.     

Gain-scheduled state feedback control design technique for flightvehicles

For multi-input, multi-output (MIMO) nonlinearly parameter dependent linear parameter-varying (LPV) systems with multiple parameters, a design method of gain-scheduled state feedback control using a minimum sensitivity eigenvalue assignment of the frozen parameter closed-loop system with quadratic stability checks is proposed. The proposed design method is applied to the bank-to-turn (BTT) control of a flight vehicle, and the nonlinear 6 degree of freedom (DOF) simulations are performed to show the usefulness as a gain-scheduled state feedback control scheme     

Image restoration of the asymmetric point spread function of a high-resolution remote sensing satellite with time-delayed integration

The calibration and validation team of the Korea Aerospace Research Institute has calibrated and validated the image data of the KOMPSAT-2 since the launch of KOMPSAT-2 on July 28, 2006. The asymmetric phenomenon of the point spread function of the KOMPSAT-2 image data is evident in both the along and the across direction, most likely because KOMPSAT-2 has a 1 m ground sample distance high-resolution camera with time-delayed integration. Furthermore, because KOMPSAT-2 is in space, the KOMPSAT-2 image data has been corrected with good results by means of modulation transfer function compensation.
