Pilot experiments developed in Los Andes Range, Central Zone of Chile, have obtained significant snd positive preliminary results on the use of multispectral and multitemporal satellite images to prepare snowmelt runoff forecasts by measuring snowcovered area in Andean watersheds. The same information is also very useful for studying regional and semi-regional geothermal activity along Los Andes in Chile. These results will be improved with the new satellite data to be available in the next years.  相似文献

This paper summarizes the main results, needs and perspectives on the use of Satellite Data Collection Systems (DCS) in the Antarctic Peninsula as derived from the operation of an experimental net of five Data Collection Platforms (DCPs) installed to collect meteorological data from remote sites, during the period 1978–1984. Main logistics problems have been solved and also the maintenance of a continuous data link along the year through Landsat (initially) and GOES satellites (actually). It is hoped to solve in the near future the remaining data quality problems on the DCP sensors.  相似文献

The International Solar-Terrestrial Physics (ISTP) program will provide simultaneous coordinated scientific measurements from most of the major areas of geospace including specific locations on the Earth's surface. This paper describes the comprehensive ISTP ground science data handling system which has been developed to promote optimal mission planning and efficient data processing, analysis and distribution. The essential components of this ground system are the ISTP Central Data Handling Facility (CDHF), the Information Processing Division's Data Distribution Facility (DDF), the ISTP/Global Geospace Science (GGS) Science Planning and Operations Facility (SPOF) and the NASA Data Archive and Distribution Service (NDADS).The ISTP CDHF is the one place in the program where measurements from this wide variety of geospace and ground-based instrumentation and theoretical studies are brought together. Subsequently, these data will be distributed, along with ancillary data, in a unified fashion to the ISTP Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-Investigator (CoI) teams for analysis on their local systems. The CDHF ingests the telemetry streams, orbit, attitude, and command history from the GEOTAIL, WIND, POLAR, SOHO, and IMP-8 Spacecraft; computes summary data sets, called Key Parameters (KPs), for each scientific instrument; ingests pre-computed KPs from other spacecraft and ground basel investigations; provides a computational platform for parameterized modeling; and provides a number of data services for the ISTP community of investigators. The DDF organizes the KPs, decommutated telemetry, and associated ancillary data into products for duistribution to the ISTP community on CD-ROMs. The SPOF is the component of the GGS program responsible for the development and coordination of ISTP science planning operations. The SPOF operates under the direction of the ISTP Project Scientist and is responsible for the development and coordination of the science plan for ISTP spacecraft. Instrument command requests for the WIND and POLAR investigations are submitted by the PIs to the SPOF where they are checked for science conflicts, forwarded to the GSFC Command Management Syntem/Payload Operations Control Center (CMS/POCC) for engineering conflict validation, and finally incorporated into the conflict-free science operations plan. Conflict resolution is accomplished through iteration between the PIs, SPOF and CMS and in consultation with the Project Scientist when necessary. The long term archival of ISTP KP and level-zero data will be undertaken by NASA's National Space Science Data Center using the NASA Data Archive and Distribution Service (NDADS). This on-line archive facility will provide rapid access to archived KPs and event data and includes security features to restrict access to the data during the time they are proprietary.  相似文献

The existence of SELPER (Sociedad de Especialistas Latinoamericanos en Percepción Remota / Society of Latinamerican Specialists on Remote Sensing) has filled a great gap among latinamerican countries. SELPER was formed in 1980 and several important activities, having international support, have been performed and are planned in the near future. SELPER consolidation will help develop several important regional cooperation programs and the next years look very promisory in this sense. Different steps are planned but the most important is related with the formation of such a Latin American Council on Remote Sensing, having official support from different countries of the region; SELPER can help this important objective. Main advances and needs are summarized in this paper and it is possible to conclude that SELPER will be important for regional and inter-regional scientific and technical cooperation on remote sensing.  相似文献

The five “Time History of Events and Macroscale Interactions during Substorms” (THEMIS) micro-satellites launched on a common carrier by a Delta II, 7925 heavy, on February 17, 2007. This is the fifth launch in the NASA MeDIum class EXplorer (MIDEX) program. In the mission proposal the decision was made to have the University of California Berkeley Space Sciences Laboratory (UCB-SSL) mechanical engineering staff provide all of the spacecraft appendages, in order to meet the short development schedule, and to insure compatibility. This paper describes the systems engineering, design, development, testing, and on-orbit deployment of these boom systems that include: the 1 and 2 meter carbon fiber composite magnetometer booms, the 40 and 50 m tip to tip orthogonal spin-plane wire boom pairs, and the 6.3 m dipole stiff axial booms.  相似文献

This paper intends to summarize the main results and perspectives of several Chilean Programs developed by using low cost but accurate remote sensing techniques. Due to paper restrictions, three main applications will be shown : use of satellite data collection systems to measure meteorological data in Ant arctic Peninsula; study of geothermal resources in Los Andes Range by using multispectral and multitemporal Landsat images; and snowmelt runoff forecasting for Andean watersheds by using Landsat data. All these applications have allowed to obtain important and useful results and low cost, reliable and accurate methodologies have been obtained for these studies.  相似文献
