Techniques are described for performing adaptive jammer ing over extremely wide bandwidths on radar systems which use linear frequency modulated (LFM) waveforms and stretch processing. It is assumed that the range uncertainty of the target is a small percentage of the equivalent range extent of the uncompressed pulse. The assumption allows the cancellation to take place following stretch processing in either the time domain using a narrowband sliding filter that keeps up with the chirp fate or in the frequency domain. The new approach supports ing performance over gigahertz of bandwidth comparable to that previously achieved over a few megahertz using approximately the same number of spatial degrees of freedom. 相似文献

Generating capacity additions planned for the 1970's and beyond include a high percentage of nuclear power plants. The light water reactor is the dominant type of commercial nuclear reactor being installed during the 1970's. Advancement to more efficient designs, such as the high-temperature gas-cooled reactor, is expected around 1980. Prospects for the breeder reactor and fusion energy systems dictate a major research and development effort. Attempts to control effluents from fossil-fired plants have resulted in a sharp increase in the use of low sulfur fuels. Synchrotron radiation is generated throughout the Milky Way. It fills the sky, and carries with it the imprint of the magnetic field at the point of origin and along the propagation path. Observations of the diffuse polarized radio emission should be able to provide information on Galactic magnetic fields with detail matching the angular resolution of the telescope. I review what has been learned from existing data, but the full potential cannot be realized from current observations because they do not adequately sample the frequency structure of the polarized emission, or they lack information on large-scale structure. I discuss three surveys, each overcoming one of these limitations, and show how use of complementary data on other ISM tracers can help elucidate the role of magnetic fields in interstellar processes. The focus of this review is on the small-scale field, on sizes comparable with the various forms of interaction of stars with their surroundings. The future is bright for this field of research as new telescopes are being built, designed for the survey mode of observation, equipped for wideband, multichannel polarization observations. 相似文献

Another derivation of a continuous-time optimal linear filter is presented. Using this result as a point of departure, a feedback version of this continuous filter is postulated and shown to be optimal in the limit as the ``feedback gain' becomes infinite. It is then demonstrated that the need for this infinite feedback gain can frequently be eliminated. This feedback realization of the continuous optimal filter has application to the problem of optimally mixing two or more redundant signals, each contaminated by random noise. The feedback configuration has the advantages of simplicity and the bounding of otherwise troublesome very large errors. This novel concept expels neutral gas in the presence of geomagnetically-trapped protons in near-Earth orbit. The expelled neutral gas acts to induce charge exchange collisions with the geomagnetically-trapped protons and induce drag on objects which pass through it. The charge exchange collisions between the neutral gas and the geomagnetically-trapped protons create neutrals with similar kinetic energy that are not confined by the geomagnetic field. The charge exchange neutrals are able to collide with orbital objects and perturb their orbits. The delta-v applied by the charge exchange neutral flux is greatest on high area-to-mass objects. Numerical simulation shows charge exchange neutral impacts produce a delta-v on objects on the order of 3.8 x 10−11 m/s at a distance of 1 km from the center of the expelled gas in a 1,000 km orbit. The impulse imparted by charge exchange neutral impacts is at least six orders of magnitude smaller than that provided by the induced drag caused by gas expulsion. The localized drag increase can force a majority of small objects into the orbit of the expelled gas cloud, even if that orbit is retrograde to the initial orbit of the objects. The chromosphere-corona transition region of the Sun enjoys both simplicities of character and complexities of character which
result from its very thin geometrical extent. The simplicities derive from the reasonably clear view of the energy balance
(both observationally and theoretically), while the complexities derive from both the proximity of the not-so-clearly viewed
regions below and above, and the almost certain convolutions and perhaps discontinuities in the three dimensional geometry
of the transition sheet. While observational resolution and spectral information has improved greatly in recent years, the
problems associated with a single vantage point, the Earth and its environs, have not gone away. To understand the transition
region we must resolve structures radially and temporally as well as in the plane of the sky.

Meteoroids can be observed at collision with the Earth's atmosphere as meteors. Different methods of observing meteors are
presented: besides the traditional counts of individual events, exact methods yield also data on the geometry of the atmospheric
trajectory; on the dynamics and ablation of the body in the atmosphere; on radiation; on the spectral distribution of radiation;
on ionization; on accompanying sounds; and also data on orbits. Theoretical models of meteoroid interaction with the atmosphere
are given and applied to observational data. Attention is paid to radar observations; to spectroscopic observations; to experiments
with artificial meteors and to different types of meteor sounds. The proposed composition and structure of meteoroids as well
as their orbits link them to meteorites, asteroids and comets. Meteor streams can be observed as meteor showers and storms.
The rate of influx of meteoroids of different sizes onto Earth is presented and potential hazards discussed.

The Advanced Composition Explorer (ACE) mission is supported by the ACE Science Center for the purposes of processing and
distributing ACE data, and facilitating collaborative work on the data by instrument investigators and by the space physics
community at large. The Science Center will strive to ensure that the data are properly archived and easily available. In
particular, it is intended that use of a centralized science facility will guarantee appropriate use of data formatting standards,
thus easing access to the data, will improve communications within and to the ACE science working team, and will reduce redundant
effort in data processing. Secondary functions performed by the Science Center include acting as an interface between the
scientists and the mission operations team.

In March 1991 the CRRES spacecraft measured a new transient radiation belt resulting from a solar proton event and subsequent geomagnetic disturbance. The presence of this belt was also noted by dosimeter-radiometers aboard the Mir space station (approx. 400 km, 51 degrees orbit) and by particle telescopes on the NOAA-10 spacecraft (850 km, 98 degrees). This event provides a unique opportunity to compare particle flux and dose measurements made by different instruments in different orbits under changing conditions. We present here a comparison of the measurements made by the different detectors. We discuss the topology and dynamics of the transient radiation belt over a period of more than one year. 相似文献
