ZHR1 is defined as number of meteoroids passing 1000 km2 zenith area per hour which can produce craters no less than 1 cm in diameter on an aluminum material. The relationship between ZHR and ZHR1 is deduced. We evaluate the strong meteor showers since 1990s by ZHR1 instead of ZHR and find the Giacobinid (Draconid) shower in 1998 is much stronger than the Leonid shower in 1999, 2001 and 2002.  相似文献

In this review I discuss the various γ-ray emission lines that can be expected and, in some cases have been observed, from radioactive explosive nucleosynthesis products. The most important γ-ray lines result from the decay chains of 56Ni, 57Ni, and 44Ti. 56Ni is the prime explosive nucleosynthesis product of Type Ia supernovae, and its decay determines to a large extent the Type Ia light curves. 56Ni is also a product of core-collapse supernovae, and in fact, γ-ray line emission from its daughter product, 56Co, has been detected from SN1987A by several instruments. The early occurrence of this emission was surprising and indicates that some fraction of 56Ni, which is synthesized in the innermost supernova layers, must have mixed with the outermost supernova ejecta.Special attention is given to the γ-ray line emission of the decay chain of 44Ti (44Ti  44Sc  44Ca), which is accompanied by line emission at 68, 78, and 1157 keV. As the decay time of 44Ti is ∼86 yr, one expects this line emission from young supernova remnants. Although the 44Ti yield (typically 10−5–10−4M) is not very high, its production is very sensitive to the energetics and asymmetries of the supernova explosion, and to the mass cut, which defines the mass of the stellar remnant. This makes 44Ti an ideal tool to study the inner layers of the supernova explosion. This is of particular interest in light of observational evidence for asymmetric supernova explosions. The γ-ray line emission from 44Ti has so far only been detected from the supernova remnant Cas A. I discuss these detections, which were made by COMPTEL (the 1157 keV line) and BeppoSAX (the 68 and 78 keV lines), which, combined, give a flux of (2.6 ± 0.4 ± 0.5) × 10−5 ph cm−2 s−1 per line, suggesting a 44Ti yield of (1.5 ± 1.0) × 10−4M. Moreover, I present some preliminary results of Cas A observations by INTEGRAL, which so far has yielded a 3σ detection of the 68 keV line with the ISGRI instrument with a flux that is consistent with the BeppoSAX detections. Future observations by INTEGRAL-ISGRI will be able to constrain the continuum flux above 90 keV, as the uncertainty about the continuum shape, is the main source of systematic error for the 68 and 78 keV line flux measurements. Moreover, with the INTEGRAL-SPI instrument it will be possible to measure or constrain the line broadening of the 1157 keV line. A preliminary analysis of the available data indicates that narrow line emission (i.e., Δv < 1000 km s−1) can be almost excluded at the 2σ level, for an assumed line flux of 1.9 × 10−5 ph cm−2 s−1.  相似文献

Variations of galactic cosmic ray intensity have been studied based on the neutron monitors and interplanetary magnetic field experimental data for different ascending and descending epochs of solar activity. The dependence of the diffusion coefficient on the cosmic ray particles rigidity R is stronger in the maxima epoch than in the minima epoch of solar activity. For the period of 1977–1981 (qA > 0) the diffusion coefficient for the minimum epoch is, χmin  R0.7 ± 0.04 and for the maximum χmax  R1.3 ± 0.05; for the period of 1987–1990 (qA < 0), χmin  R0.8 ± 0.05 and χmax  R1.1 ± 0.04. The exponents νy and νz of the power spectral density of the By and Bz components of the IMF in the region of the frequencies (10−6– 4 × 10−6) Hz are larger for the minimum epoch of 1987 (νy  2.0 and νz  1.93) than for the maximum epoch of 1990 (νy  1.43 and νz  1.27).  相似文献

The spatial distributions of galactic and anomalous cosmic rays in the heliosphere at the solar minima of Cycles 20/22 (qA > 0) and of Cycle 21 (qA < 0) are studied, using data from IMP 8, Voyagers 1/2 and Pioneer 10. It is found that the radial dependences of intensities J can be approximated by a power of radial distance r as J  rα with a different value of a constant in the inner and outer heliosphere with a transition at a radial distance of 10–15 AU. To study the physical meaning of these radial intensity profiles we examined the rigidity dependences of the intensity gradients by determining the particle mean free paths, using a simple one-dimensional modulation model. The particle mean free path λ was assumed to be a separable function of distance of the form rγ and rigidity R of Rδ over the range of 0.5–3.0 GV in the inner and outer heliosphere. It was shown that λ of rigidity dependence of R1.6 determined for Cycle 20/22 (qA > 0) with anomalous He is about 4–5 times larger than that of Cycle 21 (qA < 0) with R0.9 at around 1 GV in the outer heliosphere, and that the radial dependences are r1.4 and r1.1, respectively, for Cycles 20/22 and for Cycle 21.  相似文献

We present measurements of the thermal conductivity λ(t, P, L) = l/ρ(t, P, L) near the superfluid transition of 4He at saturated vapor pressure and confined in cylindrical geometries with radii L = 0.5 and 1.0 μm (t  T/Tλ(P)  1). For L = 1.0 μm measurements at six pressures P are presented. At and above Tλ the data are consistent with a universal scaling function F(X) = (L/ξo)x/ν(ρ/ρ0), X = (L/ξo)1/νt valid for all P (ρ0 and x are the pressure-dependent amplitude and effective exponent of the bulk resistivity ρ(t, P, ∞) = ρ0tx and ξ = ξ0tν is the correlation length). Indications of breakdown of scaling and universality are observed below Tλ.  相似文献

Hard X-ray observations from the Reuven Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager (RHESSI) of the October 29, 2003 GOES X10 two-ribbon flare are used together with magnetic field observations from the Michelson Doppler Imager (MDI) onboard SoHO to compare footpoint motions with predictions from magnetic reconnection models. The temporal variations of the velocity v of the hard X-ray footpoint motions and the photospheric magnetic field strength B in footpoints are investigated. The underlying photospheric magnetic field strength is generally higher (B  700–1200 G) in the slower moving (v  20–50 km s−1) western footpoint than in the faster (v  20–100 km s−1) moving eastern source (∼100–600 G). Furthermore, a rough temporal correlation between the HXR flux and the product vB2 is observed.  相似文献

This work aims to investigate far-UVC light at 222 nm as a new microbial reduction tool for planetary protection purposes which could potentially be integrated into the spacecraft assembly process. The major advantage of far-UVC (222 nm) compared to traditional germicidal UVC (254 nm) is the potential for application throughout the spacecraft assembly process in the presence of humans without adverse health effects due to the limited penetration of far-UVC light into biological materials. Testing the efficacy of 222-nm light at inactivating hardy bacterial cells and spores isolated from spacecraft and associated surfaces is a necessary step to evaluate this technology. We assessed survival of Bacillus pumilus SAFR-032 and Acinetobacter radioresistens 50v1 exposed to 222-nm light on proxy spacecraft surfaces simulated by drying the bacteria on aluminum coupons. The survival fraction of both bacteria followed a single stage decay function up to 60 mJ/cm2, revealing similar susceptibility of both species to 222-nm light, which was independent of the exposure rate. Irradiation with far-UVC light at 222 nm is an effective method to decontaminate the proxy spacecraft materials tested in this study.  相似文献

We observed the radio and X-ray source G359.23–0.82, also known as “the Mouse”, with XMM-Newton. The X-ray image of this object shows a point-like source at the Mouse’s “head”, accompanied by a “tail” that extends for about 40″ westward. The morphology is consistent with that observed recently with Chandra [Gaensler, B.M., van der Swaluw, E., Camilo, F., et al. The Mouse that soared: high resolution X-ray imaging of the pulsar-powered bow shock G359.23–0.82, ApJ 616, 383–402, 2004]. The spectrum of the head can be described by a power-law model with a photon index Γ  1.9. These results confirm that the Mouse is a bow-shock pulsar wind nebula (PWN) powered by PSR J1747–2958. We found that the hydrogen column density toward the Mouse, NH = (2.60 ± 0.09) × 1022 cm−2, is 20%–40% lower than those toward two serendipitously detected X-ray bursters, SLX 1744–299 and SLX 1744–300. At a plausible distance of 5 kpc, the X-ray luminosity of the Mouse, L(0.5–10 keV) = 3.7 × 1034 erg s−1, is 1.5% of the pulsar’s spin-down luminosity. We detected a Type I X-ray burst from SLX 1744–300 and found a possible decrease of NH and persistent luminosity for this source, in comparison with those observed with ROSAT in 1992.  相似文献

We continue monitoring supernova remnant (SNR) 1987A with the Chandra X-ray Observatory. As of 2004 January, bright X-ray spots in the northwest and the southwest are now evident in addition to the bright eastern ring. The overall X-ray spectrum, since 2002 December, can be described by a planar shock with an electron temperature of ∼2.1 keV. The soft X-ray flux is now 8 × 10−13 ergs cm−2 s−1, which is about five times higher than four years ago. This flux increase rate is consistent with our prediction based on an exponential density distribution along the radius of the SNR between the HII region and the inner ring. We still have no direct evidence of a central point source, and place an upper limit of LX = 1.3 × 1034 ergs s−1 on the 3–10 keV band X-ray luminosity.  相似文献

Effects of sub-atmospheric ambient pressure and oxygen content on irradiated ignition characteristics of solid combustibles were examined experimentally in order to elucidate the flammability and chance of fire in depressurized systems and give ideas for the fire safety and fire fighting strategies for such environments. Thin cellulosic paper was used as the solid combustible since cellulose is one of major organic compounds and flammables in the nature. Applied atmospheres consisted of inert gases (either CO2 or N2) and oxygen at various mixture ratios. Total ambient pressure (P) was varied from 101 kPa (standard atmospheric pressure, P0) to 20 kPa. Ignition was initiated by external thermal radiation with CO2 laser (10 W total; 21.3 W/cm2 of the corresponding peak flux) onto the solid surface. Thermal degradation of the solid produced combustible gaseous products (e.g. CO, H2, or other low weight of HCs) and these products mixed with ambient oxygen to form the combustible mixture over the solid. Heat transfer from the irradiated surface into the mixture accelerated the exothermic reaction in the gas phase and finally thermal runaway (ignition) was achieved. A digital video camera was used to analyze the ignition characteristics. Flammability maps in partial pressure of oxygen (ppO2) and normalized ambient pressure (P/P0) plane were made to reveal the fire hazard in depressurized environments. Results showed that a wider flammable range was obtained in sub-atmospherics conditions. In middle pressure range (101–40 kPa), the required ppO2 for ignition decreased almost linearly as the total pressure decreased, indicating that higher fire risk is expected. In lower pressure range (<40 kPa), the required partial pressure of oxygen increased dramatically, then ignition was eventually not achieved at pressures less than 20 kPa under the conditions studied here. The findings suggest that it might be difficult to satisfy safety in space agriculture since it has been reported that higher oxygen concentrations are preferable for plant growth in depressurized environments. Our results imply that there is an optimum pressure level to achieve less fire chance with acceptable plant growth. An increase of the flammable range in middle pressure level might be explained by following two effects: one is a physical effect, such as a weak convective thermal removal from ignitable domain (near the hot surface) to the ambient of atmosphere, and the other is chemical effect which causes so-called “explosion peninsula” as a result of depleting radical consumption due to third-body recombination reaction. Further studies are necessary to determine the controlling factor on the observed flammable trend in depressurized conditions.  相似文献

Accurate assessment of total suspended solids (TSS) is one of the most important parameters for the management of health of aquatic ecosystem. Due to the limitation of traditional TSS measurement methods, recently developed remote sensing based algorithm (Wen algorithm) has been used to measure the TSS concentration in a Himalayan foothill river like Raidak. Additionally, to examine the spatiotemporal characteristics of total suspended solids (TSS), total three consecutive years (2019, 2020 and 2021) along with different seasons have been selected. The Nechad algorithm has been used to validate the recalibrated algorithm. The result also indicates that Wen algorithm is also highly consistent with the Nechad algorithm (R2 value is greater than 0.90). It is also estimated that the concentration of TSS becomes very high particularly in monsoon months (242 mg/l, 270 mg/l and 246 mg/l for the year 2019, 2020 and 2021). The Raidak river catchment is located in the foothill zone of the lofty Himalayan range and the region is totally influenced by Indian summer monsoon. In the Raidak river course, the seasonal sediment flux is highly correlated with rainfall, stream flow, cross sectional area and high anthropogenic stress. The NDTI (Normalize Difference Turbidity Index) value (Turbidity) is greater in monsoon season than pre and post monsoonal periods (0.035, 0.0851 and 0.0201 for the years 2019, 2020 and 2021 respectively). ANOVA result shows a significant difference among the TSS values in different years (p=<0.05).  相似文献

The M1.5-class flare and associated coronal mass ejection (CME) of 16 February 2011 was observed with the Extreme ultraviolet Imaging Spectrometer on board the Hinode spacecraft. Spray plasma associated with the CME is found to exhibit a Doppler blue-shift of 850 km s?1 – one of the largest values reported from spectroscopy of the solar disk and inner corona. The observation is unusual in that the emission line (Fe xii 193.51 Å) is not observed directly, but the Doppler shift is so large that the blue-shifted component appears in a wavelength window at 192.82 Å, intended to observe lines of O v, Fe xi and Ca xvii. The Fe xii 195.12 Å emission line is used as a proxy for the rest component of 193.51 Å. The observation highlights the risks of using narrow wavelength windows for spectrometer observations when observing highly-dynamic solar phenomena. The consequences of large Doppler shifts for ultraviolet solar spectrometers, including the upcoming Multi-slit Solar Explorer (MUSE) mission, are discussed.  相似文献

The deleterious effects of accelerated heavy ions as component of the space radiation environment on living cells are of increasing importance for long duration human space flight activities. The most important aspect of such densely ionizing particle radiation is attributed to the type and quality of biological damage induced by them. This issue is addressed by investigating cell inactivation and mutation induction at the Hprt locus (coding for hypoxanthine-guanine-phosphoribosyl-transferase) of cultured V79 Chinese hamster cells exposed to densely ionizing radiation (accelerated heavy ions with different LETs from oxygen to gold, specific energies ranging from 1.9 to 69.7 MeV/u, corresponding LET values range from 62 to 13,223 keV/μm) and to sparsely ionizing radiation (200 kV X-rays). 30 spontaneous, 40 X-ray induced and 196 heavy ion induced 6-thioguanine resistant Hprt mutant colonies were characterized by Southern technique using the restriction enzymes EcoRI, PstI and BglII and a full length Hprt cDNA probe isolated from the plasmid pHPT12. Restriction patterns of the spontaneous Hprt mutants were indistinguishable from the wild type pattern, as these mutants probably contain only small deletions or even point mutations in the Hprt locus. In contrast, the overall spectrum of heavy ion induced mutations revealed a majority of partial or total deletions of the Hprt gene. With constant particle fluence (3 × 106 particles/cm2) the quality of heavy ion induced mutations in the Hprt locus depends on physical parameters of the beam (atomic number, specific energy, LET). This finding suggests a relationship between the type of DNA damage and track structure. The fraction of mutants with severe deletions in the Hprt locus after exposure to oxygen ions increases from 65% at 60 keV/μm up to a maximum (100%) at 300 keV/μm and declines with higher LET values to 75% at 750 keV/μm. With heavier ions (Ca- and Au-ions) and even higher LET-values this mutant fraction decreases to 58% at 13,200 keV/μm. Heavy ion induced DNA break points in the Hprt locus are not randomly distributed.  相似文献

The geometries, electron affinities and/or electron detachment energies for the CnS and CnO (n = 2–8) molecules and their anions were calculated by using the RCCSD (T) method. The CnS (even n = 4, 6, and 8) and CnO (even n = 6 and 8) anions are found to be substantially more stable than their corresponding neutral species. Several anions are potentially detectable as interstellar molecules.  相似文献

The absence of a supernova remnant (SNR) shell surrounding the Crab and other plerions (pulsar wind nebulae) has been a mystery for three decades. G21.5-0.9 is a particularly intriguing plerionic SNR in which the central powering engine is not yet detected. Early CHANDRA observations revealed a faint extended X-ray halo which was suggested to be associated with the SNR shell; however its spectrum was non-thermal, unlike what is expected from an SNR shell. On the other hand, a plerionic origin to the halo is problematic since the X-ray plerion would be larger than the radio plerion. We present here our analysis of an integrated 245 ks of archival CHANDRA data acquired with the High-Resolution Camera (HRC) and 520 ks acquired with the Advanced CCD Imaging Spectrometer (ACIS). This study provides the deepest and highest resolution images obtained to date. The resulting images reveal for the first time: (1) a limb-brightened morphology in the eastern section of the halo, and (2) a rich structure in the inner (40″-radius) bright plerion including wisps and a double-lobed morphology with an axis of symmetry running in the northwest–southeast direction. Our spatially resolved spectroscopic study of the ACIS-I data indicates that the photon index steepens with increasing distance from the central point source out to a radius of 40″ then becomes constant at ∼2.4 in the X-ray halo (for a column density NH = 2.2 × 1022 cm−2). No line emission was found from the eastern limb; however marginal evidence for line emission in the halo’s northern knots was found. This study illustrates the need for deep CHANDRA observations to reveal the missing SNR material in Crab-like plerions.  相似文献

X-ray observations show that at a time consistent with a coronal mass ejection onset there is a small, soft X-ray burst (precursor). Generally this is followed some 20–30m later by a more significant flare. At the onset time there is frequently simultaneous activity from widely separated points on the Sun (>105km). We present a model which accounts for the relationship between the coronal mass ejection and the precursor using 102–103 keV protons as the energy transfer agent. The protons (1) heat the high coronal loop. Inferred from the simultaneous activity, destabilizing the pressure balance to produce the ejection and (2) are guided by the magnetic field to below the transition region where they heat the chromospheric plasma to produce the precursor X-rays. High correlation between these events and a subsequent flare suggests that there may be a feedback mechanism operating from the coronal mass ejection.  相似文献

The purpose of this work was to develop technology for recycling NaCl containing in human liquid waste as intrasystem matter in a bioregenerative life support system (BLSS). The circulation of Na+ and Cl excreted in urine is achieved by inclusion of halophytes, i.e. plants that naturally inhabit salt-rich soils and accumulate NaCl in their organs. A model of Na+ and Cl recycling in a BLSS was designed, based on the NaCl turnover in the human–urine–nutrient solution–halophytic plant–human cycle. The study consisted of (i) selecting a halophyte suitable for inclusion in a BLSS, and (ii) determining growth conditions supporting maximal Na+ and Cl accumulation in the shoots of the halophyte growing in a nutrient solution simulating mineralized urine. For the selected halophytic plant, Salicornia europaea, growth rate under optimal conditions, biomass production and quantities of Na+ and Cl absorbed were determined. Characteristics of a plant production conveyor consisting of S.europaea at various ages, and allowing continuity of Na+ and Cl turnover, were estimated. It was shown that closure of the NaCl cycle in a BLSS can be attained if the daily ration of fresh Salicornia biomass for a BLSS inhabitant is approximately 360 g.  相似文献

Recent measurements of the cosmic ray (CR) antiproton flux have been shown to challenge existing CR propagation models. It was shown that the reacceleration models designed to match secondary to primary nuclei ratios (e.g., B/C) produce too few antiprotons. In the present paper, we discuss one possibility to overcome these difficulties. Using the measured antiproton flux and B/C ratio to fix the diffusion coefficient, we show that the spectra of primary nuclei as measured in the heliosphere may contain a fresh local “unprocessed” component at low energies perhaps associated with the Local Bubble, thus decreasing the measured secondary to primary nuclei ratio. The independent evidence for SN activity in the solar vicinity in the last few Myr supports this idea. The model reproduces antiprotons, B/C ratio, and elemental abundances up to Ni (Z  28). Calculated isotopic distributions of Be and B are in perfect agreement with CR data. The abundances of three “radioactive clock” isotopes in CR, 10Be, 26Al, 36Cl, are all consistent and indicate a halo size zh  4 kpc based on the most accurate data taken by the ACE spacecraft.  相似文献

An analysis of the main remotly sensed oceanographic variables was conducted to characterize the dominant drivers that modulate the spatial-temporal variability of coastal phytoplankton biomass in the northern limit of the Eastern Tropical Pacific. The phytoplankton biomass was analyzed using monthly average satellite chlorophyll (Chlo) concentration data from MODIS sensors for the period 2003–2017. Oceanographic conditions were analyzed by considering (i) Sea Surface Temperature (SST) high-resolution data from the GHRSST project, (ii) wind stress calculated with data from the zonal and meridional components of the CCMP product, (iii) climatological precipitation, and (iv) climatological river flow. Chlo time series and spatial variability were analyzed using Hovmöller diagrams and Empirical Orthogonal Functions (EOF), respectively. A strong semi-annual signal in Chlo concentration along the coast was observed: the first peak occurs in winter-spring (5.0 mg·m−3) and a second one in summer-autumn (6.5 mg·m−3). A high year-round average of Chlo concentration (3.0–15.0 mg·m−3) was maintained by a 10 km wide along-shore coast, with maximum values spatially associated with river mouths, of which Santiago river registered the highest Chlo values (20.0 mg·m−3). Surface oceanographic conditions showed a marked annual cycle with warmer conditions (30–31 °C) from July to October and colder ones (23–24 °C) from December to April; during the cold period, seasonal wind stress stimulated coastal upwelling. The EOF showed that 70% of Chlo concentration variability was controlled by the semi-annual pattern, which responded to coastal upwelling conditions during cold period, while rivers outflows influenced high Chlo concentration during the warm period. These results highlighted the importance for land-ocean interface to sustain coastal ecosystems' biological production and the major role of watersheds as sources of nutrients to maintain high biological production during warm periods in transitional tropical-subtropical zones.  相似文献

Study of depth–dose distributions for intermediate energy ion beams in tissue-like media such as polyethylene (CH2)n provides a good platform for further improvements in the fields of hadrontherapy and space radiation shielding. The depth–dose distributions for 12C ions at various energies and for light and intermediate ion beams (3He, 16O, 20Ne and 28Si) as well as for heavy ions 56Fe in polyethylene were estimated by using simulation toolkit: Geant4. Calculations were performed mainly by considering two different combinations of standard electromagnetic (EM), binary cascade (BIC), statistical multifragmentation (SMF) and Fermi breakup (FB) models. The energies of the ion beams were selected to achieve the Bragg peaks at predefined position (∼60 mm) and as per their availability. Variations of peak-to-entrance ratio (from 7.44 ± 0.05 to 8.87 ± 0.05), entrance dose (from 2.89 ± 0.01 to 203.71 ± 0.63 MeV/mm) and entrance stopping power (from 3.608 to 208.858 MeV/mm, calculated by SRIM) with atomic number (Z) were presented in a systematic manner. The better peak-to-entrance ratio and less entrance dose in the region Z = 2 to 8 (i.e. 3He to 16O) may provide the suitability of the ion beams for hadrontherapy.  相似文献
