The authors develop the theory of CA-CFAR (cell-averaging constant false-alarm rate) detection using multiple sensors and data fusion, where detection decisions are transmitted from each CA-CFAR detector to the data fusion center. The overall decision is obtained at the data fusion center based on some k out of n fusion rule. For a Swerling target model I embedded in white Gaussian noise of unknown level, the authors obtain the optimum threshold multipliers of the individual detectors. At the data fusion center, they derive an expression for the overall probability of detection while the overall probability of false alarm is maintained at the desired value for the given fusion rules. A previous analysis of order-statistics constant-false-alarm-rate (OS-CFAR) radar receiving a single pulse from a Rayleigh fluctuating target in a Rayleigh background is extended to a Rayleigh-plus-dominant target. The analysis includes effects of a multitarget environment. A detailed comparison of OS-CFAR, cell-averaging (CA) CFAR, and censored CA-CFAR is provided for a Rayleigh target in the presence of strongly interfering targets. The false-alarm analysis of OS-CFAR is extended to the more general case of a Weibull background. The deterioration of the CFAR property of OS as the shape factor, C, of a Weibull probability density function changes from Rayleigh (C=2) to a longer-tailed one (C<2) is evaluated. The analytic comparison between CA-CFAR and OS-CFAR is extended to an integration of pulses reflected from a Swerling II target. The OS-CFAR performance (with and without interfering targets) yields an integral equation that is solved numerically  相似文献

In high-resolution imaging, weak target pixel amplifiers may not be detected in the presence of clutter containing strong nonhomogeneities, when conventional approaches are used. The authors describe a constant false alarm rate (CFAR) approach that avoids the elimination of these significant target returns. The nonhomogeneous clutter as well as the weak target components are detected with this approach. The targets could then be discriminated from the homogeneities by discrimination techniques. It is shown how the lower amplitude components of the background noise and homogeneous clutter (which have Rayleigh statistics) can be detected in the presence of strong homogeneous clutter and targets. The average level of the homogeneous component is then determined using these lower-amplitude components. This CFAR approach avoids having a CFAR on the strong nonhomogeneities as well as the homogeneous component. The avoidance is what yields the ability to detect weak target pixel amplitudes  相似文献

Detection of Target Multiplicity Using Monopulse Quadrature Angle   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The feasibility of using the indicated quadrature angle of arrival of a monopulse radar to discriminate a single target from multiple targets, separated in angle within a radar resolution cell, is investigated. The analysis is performed for steady (fixed) and Rayleigh fluctuating targets which cover a broad range of target characteristics. In both cases, the interfering signals due to noise and clutter in the sum and difference monopulse channels are assumed to be independent, zero-mean Gaussian processes. Detection and false alarm probabilities are evaluated analytically and the receiver operating characteristics are obtained for both fixed and fluctuating target cases. It is shown that multiple targets can be discriminated from a single target condition by integrating the indicated monopulse quadrature angle of arrival from several independent pulses. It is also shown that the probability of detecting multiple targets increases as the fluctuation in the target radar cross section decreases, approaching the fixed amplitude case in the limit.  相似文献

The influence of increasing range resolution on the detectability of targets with dimensions greater than the resolution cell is studied. An N-cell target model is assumed, which contains k reflecting cells, each reflecting independently according to the same Rayleigh amplitude distribution. It will be referred to as the (N,k) target. Detection based on one transmitted pulse is performed against a background of white normal noise. Detection in stationary clutter is also considered. The optimum detector is obtained but, in view of its complexity, the performance of a simpler detector, the square-law envelope detector with linear integrator (SLEDLI), is analyzed, and a formula for the probability of detection is obtained. Graphs are presented which show the probability of detection as a function of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for various values of N k, and false alarm probability. For N/k not too large it is shown that the SLEDLI is near optimum.  相似文献

A new method of reducing target glint errors in radar systems is presented. The target is modeled as n reflectors whose magnitudes and phases are known. The reflector positions are described by a dynamical model driven by white Gaussian noise. The resulting vibrations of the target reflectors produce glintlike pointing errors in the radar system. An extended Kalman filter is developed to estimate the positions of the target reflectors; this information is used to substantially reduce the pointing error due to glint. Data illustrating this glint reduction is given. The model is extended by the inclusion of clutter effects modeled in the same fashion as the glint phenomenon. The results presented indicate the limits of usefulness of this technique as a function of both receiver noise and relative clutter amplitude.  相似文献

Performance prediction for a detection system employing noncoherent integration is carried out for a chi-square family of fluctuating targets in K-distributed clutter plus noise. The detection performance for Swerling 11 targets in the K-distributed clutter plus noise is compared with that in exponentially correlated Rayleigh clutter. The results show that the performance prediction based on N pulses integrated in clutter plus noise using the K-distributed clutter model may be approximately equivalent to that using the exponentially correlated Rayleigh-distributed clutter model  相似文献

It has been noted that signal aperture radar (SAR) imagery of clutter exhibits Rayleigh multiplicative noise due to speckle. We use a database of MSTAR target chips to verify that the noise is multiplicative rather than additive for all regions in the chip. Then, by examining histograms corresponding to the noise residuals, we show that a Weibull distribution that is almost Rayleigh best fits the data. However, when we restrict the analysis over the target region, the log-normal and Rayleigh models fit the noise equally as well. This can be attributed to scattering mechanisms that are unstable over five degrees of aspect angle  相似文献

The performance of a cell averaging constant false-alarm rate (CA-CFAR) detector degrades rapidly in nonideal conditions caused by multiple targets and nonuniform clutter. The ordered-statistic CFAR (OS-CFAR) is an alternative to the CA-CFAR. The OS-CFAR trades a small loss in detection performance relative to the CA-CFAR in ideal conditions for much less performance degradation in nonideal conditions. A formula is given for the detection probability of the OS-CFAR when there are multiple Swerling I targets in the CFAR window, and a formula is given for the probability of false alarm in nonuniform Raleigh clutter  相似文献

The statistical behavior of clutter observed near grazing incidence and at 95 GHz is investigated for the specific cases of bare ground, snow cover, and for a heterogeneous scene. The bare ground constitutes a homogeneous target under homogeneous conditions and the magnitude of the amplitude is Rayleigh distributed. While the snow cover is a homogeneous target, the conditions under which it was observed are heterogeneous, and the Bayes rule is employed to describe its clutter distribution. The Bayes rule integrates variations due to signal fading with the underlying variations in the backscattering coefficient associated with the heterogeneity. An adaptive detection procedure is described by which the detection threshold is so adjusted as to provide an asymptotic false-alarm probability PFA that is approximately invariant with changes in radar clutter return amplitude probability density functions (pdf's) in a broad class. The class includes Rayleigh, chi, Weibull, and lognormal pdf's. The receiver noise is also taken into account. The clutter-plus-noise pdf is approximated by a truncated generalized Laguerre series, the coefficients of which are estimated from the radar returns using "cell averaging" techniques. This estimation is assumed to be perfect. The results obtained indicate that the "bias" error, defined as the normalized difference between the design PFA and the asymptotic PFA corresponding to the computed threshold, lies within a fraction of an order of magnitude for 10-3?PFA ? 10-6. For PFA ?10-6 the bias error is more than an order of magnitude. These results are for the case when a single independent radar return is processed at a time. The bias error decreases as the number of postdetection integrations of independent returns increases.  相似文献

A serious degradation of detection probability (Pd) in a cellaverging constant false alarm rate (CA-CFAR) detector is known to be caused by the presence of an interfering target in the set of reference cells. A technique which is often used to prevent excessive false alarms at clutter ?edges? is a ?greatest of? (GO) selection between the leading and lagging sets of cells (GO-CFAR). However, it is demonstrated for a Rayleigh target that the abovementioned suppression effect is more acute in the GO-CFAR. Practically, detection of closely separated targets is almost inhibited. Selection of the ?smallest of? (SO) the means for the adaptive threshold has been proposed to alleviate this problem. An analytic expression for Pd of this detector is also derived, and it is shown that though it does prevent the suppression effect, a large sensitivity loss is introduced unless the number of reference cells is sufficiently large. A modified CO-CFAR detector, combining a ?censoring? circuit, is proposed for automatic detection in a complex nonhomogeneous environment.  相似文献

The Pade approximation (PA) method is used to analyze the detection performance of single and multiple pulse radar systems operating in K-distributed clutter and thermal noise. Simple approximations for false-alarm and detection probabilities are obtained, using lower order moments for the detection decision statistic. Both envelope and squaring detector laws are considered, with noncoherent integration, for independent and correlated K clutter. The target is assumed to be pulse-to-pulse Rayleigh fading. It has been shown in the literature that the linear-phase constraint of finite-duration impulse-response (FIR) digital filters can, under certain circumstances, be effectively traded either for a better filter amplitude response or a reduction in the number of filter coeficients. It is shown that such a tradeoff can be exploited for moving target indicator (MTI) radar signal processors to increase the usable bandwidth for target detection. Although it is demonstrated that the increase is significant for narrowband (ground) clutter, it is negligible for wideband (weather) clutter.  相似文献

The detection performance of logarithmic receivers in Rayleigh and non-Gaussian clutter is investigated. In Rayleigh clutter the performance is determined for steady, Swerling case 1, and Swerling case 2 targets. The detection loss of logarithmic receivers is generally less than the ? log n loss conjectured by Green, but consistent with the 1.08-dB asymptotic loss established by Hansen. The Swerling case 2 loss, important in frequency- agility applications, canbe severe for a small number of integrated pulses and high Pd, and apparently approaches the 1.08-dB asymptotic loss as a lower bound. Graphs of GramCharlier series cumulants are provided to allow determination of logarithmic-receiver performance. Curves are presented to allow the detection performance of logarithmic receivers in log-normal and Weibull clutter to be determineds.  相似文献

The problem of detecting radar targets against a background of coherent, correlated, non-Gaussian clutter is studied with a two-step procedure. In the first step, the structure of the amplitude and the multivariate probability density functions (pdfs) describing the statistical properties of the clutter is derived. The starting point for this derivation is the basic scattering problem, and the statistics are obtained from an extension of the central limit theorem (CLT). This extension leads to modeling the clutter amplitude statistics by a mixture of Rayleigh distributions. The end product of the first step is a multidimensional pdf in the form of a Gaussian mixture, which is then used in step 2. The aim of step 2 is to derive both the optimal and a suboptimal detection structure for detecting radar targets in this type of clutter. A CFAR Design for a Window Spanning Two Clutter Fields   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
When the heterogeneous clutter field spanning the spatial sampling sliding window can be modeled as two contiguous homogeneous clutter fields with the statistical parameters of each field unknown and independent from field to field and with the transition point between fields also not known, then the cell-averaging constant false alarm rate (CFAR) performance significantly degrades, yielding target masking effects and loss of false alarm regulation. For the same defined and encountered environment spanning the sliding window, the performance degradation effects are shown to be largely eliminated when a newly developed class of CFAR tests is employed. These tests are designated as heterogeneous clutter estimating CFARs (HCE-CFAR). The test initially involves the combined use of multiple hypothesis testing and maximum likelihood estimation procedures to estimate the statistical parameters of each of the two fields, and the transition point between them, and then makes use of the relevant estimated clutter field parameters to effect the final decision rule. HCE-CFAR designs are presented for both the cases when the contiguous fields have Rayleigh first-order probability distributions, and log-normal probability distribution. However, the focus of the development and the conducted performance evaluation is for the Rayleigh clutter cases.  相似文献
