Impact polarization of the kernels of solar flares in the chromospheric lines is one of the important diagnostics of high-energy particles in solar flares. Even though so far the detection of polarization up to 10% have been reported by various authors, generally the polarization of the flare kernels is small. To detect the impact polarization, high-cadence imaging polarimetry with the precision of the order of 0.1% is required. The seeing-induced error is the greatest cause degrading the polarimetric precision, but it can be reduced by high-frequency polarization modulation. We developed a polarimeter with ferroelectric liquid crystals (FLCs) combining with a high-speed CCD camera, and the modulation frequency as high as 1 kHz realized the precision of the polarimetry in the Hα line of the order of 0.1%. Many flares have been observed with this polarimeter, and we found that just small flares sometimes show significant polarization. However, the majority of the flares do not show polarization signals larger than 0.1%. Our results suggest that there are some unknown parameters to produce the polarization of flare kernels.  相似文献

The hydrogen Hα line has been found to be linearly polarized at some locations and times during a June 15th 2001 flare observed with THEMIS. This flare was accompanied by radio pulses and hard X-ray emission. Linear polarization is below the noise level in the flare kernels. However, it is present at the edges of these kernels, in the line center and near wings where the polarization degree exceeds 4%. The directions of polarization are not random but close within ±15° to the tangential and radial directions. This polarization can be due either to electron beams and their associated return currents or to electron and proton beams.  相似文献

Yohkoh X-ray images, multifrequency two-dimentional observations of the Nancay Radioheliograph, Kitt Peak and Mees magnetograms provide a unique set of data with which to study a C4.7 long-duration flare that was observed close to the equator (S07, W11) on 25 Oct. 1994 at 09:49 UT. Linear force-free field extrapolations indicate a very high degree of non-potentiality in the active region. The X-ray flare started with the expansion of spectacular twisted loops. Fifteen minutes after the flare onset sporadic radio (type III) bursts were observed spreading over an area of almost 1/3 of the solar disc and two remote X-ray brightenings appeared over quiet regions of opposite magnetic polarity located in on opposite hemispheres of the Sun. In the close vicinity of these remote brightenings two coronal holes formed. The timing and location of these events combined with the overall magnetic configuration provide evidence for a large-scale magnetic reconnection occurring between the expanding twisted loops and the overlying huge loops which inter-connect quiet solar regions.  相似文献

利用南极中山站的观测数据分析了太阳活动区R9077所引起的强烈吸收事件,其中2000年7月14日的太阳质子事件引起了持续3天多强烈的极盖吸收,同时,激烈的太阳活动使磁层处于极度扰动状态,磁层高能粒子沉降使许多持续时间较短的吸收峰叠加在极盖吸收背景之上,最突出的是7月1日的吸收增强事件,其最大值达26dB。这是自1997年2月中山站安装成像式宇宙噪声接收机以来观测到的最强的吸收,另一个较突出的吸收峰发生在14日1753UT前后,本文还讨论了产生这些吸收的原由。  相似文献

We present the multi-wavelength study of short-term variations of Hα line emission located in multiple kernels on the both sides from magnetic neutral line in the 25th July 2004 solar flare observed by VTT (Tenerife). The HXR and Hα emission in the kernels 1 and 3 is close spatially and temporally while in kernels 4 and 7 there is only delayed Hα emission observed tens seconds after HXR in the kernels 1 and 3. The locations of Hα kernels 1, 3, 4 and 7 are on the opposite sides from the magnetic neutral line. The temporal variations of Hα emission in kernels 1 and 3 coincide within 5 s with the HXR photon emission. The latter is found to have double power law photon spectra, which were corrected to a single power law with the turning point technique accounting for Ohmic losses and collisions. The Hα emission is fit by full non-LTE simulations in an atmosphere heated by an electron beam with the parameters derived from the HXR emission. The combination of radiative, thermal and non-thermal mechanisms of excitation and ionization of hydrogen atoms is considered. The temporal evolution of simulated Hα emission in the kernel 3 fits rather well the two observed intensity increases: the first at the flare onset (13:38:39–13:39:30 UT) caused by pure non-thermal excitation by beam electrons and the second one appearing after 13:40:00 UT because of a hydrodynamic heating. The observed close temporal correlation or delay of Hα emission with HXR emission points out to the precipitation either of electron (kernels 1 and 3) or protons (4 and 7).  相似文献

In the spherical accretion onto massive objects, the matter may be heated up to temperatures as high as 1012 °K. In such a hot plasma, the thermal bremsstrahlung (e-e and e-p) and π° decay from inelastic collisions of protons are the main γ-ray sources. We determined the γ -ray production spectra from the π° decay and from bremsstrahlung for different temperatures. The expected γ-ray spectra were evaluated too in order to fit experimental data. We have fitted COS B data from 3C 273 using a two temperatures plasma model. The best fit is for
(M8 is the black hole mass in 108 M) which gives . The hard X-ray measurements do not contradict the bremsstrahlung spectrum.  相似文献

This work studies the sudden increases in total electron content of the ionosphere caused by the very intense solar flare on July 14, 2000. Total electron content (TEC) data observed from a Global Positioning System (GPS) network are used to calculate the flare-induced TEC increment, δTECf, and variation rate, dTECf/dt. It is found that both dTECf/dt and δTECf are closely related with the solar zenith angles. To explain the observation results, we derived a simple relationship between the partial derivative of the flare-induced TEC, ∂TECf/∂t, which is a good approximation for dTECf/dt, and the solar zenith angle χ, as well as the effective flare radiation flux If, according to the well-known Chapman theory of ionization. The derived formula predicted that ∂TECf/∂t is proportional to If and inverse proportional to Chapman function ch(χ). This theoretical prediction not only explains the correlation of dTECf/dt and δTECf with χ as shown in our TEC observation, but also gives a way to deduce If from TEC observation of GPS network. Thus, the present work shows that GPS observation is a powerful tool in the observation and investigation of solar flare effects on the ionosphere, i.e., the sudden ionospheric disturbances, which is a significant phenomenon of space weather.  相似文献

HEAO-1 observed hard radiations (X- and gamma-rays) from a major solar flare on 11 July 1978. The observations showed gamma-ray line and continuum emission extending to the highest energy observed. The lines are identified with the 2.2 MeV line of deuterium formation and the 4.4 MeV line of inelastic scattering on 12C, both previously observed in the flares of August 1972 [1]. The 11 July flare was identified as a white-light flare by observations at Debrecen [2]. It thus provides the first opportunity for a detailed examination of white-light flare theories that depend upon proton heating of the photosphere. The line strength over a four-minute integration at 2.2 MeV was 1.00 ± 0.29 ph(cm2 sec)−1, and the gamma-ray emission (excluding the 2.2 MeV line which was appreciably delayed) lagged by less than 20 sec approximately after the hard X-ray and microwave fluxes. We conclude that the “second-stage” acceleration of high-energy solar particles must commence promptly after the impulsive phase.  相似文献

Understanding the evolution of Mars requires determining the composition of the surface and atmosphere of the planet. The European Space Agency’s ExoMars rover mission, which is expected to launch in 2016, is part of the Aurora programme. The instruments on the rover will search for evidence of life on Mars and will map a sub-section of the Martian surface, extracting compositional information. Currently our understanding of the bulk composition (and mineralogy) of Mars relies on orbital data from instruments on-board satellites such as 2001 Mars Odyssey, Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter and Mars Express, in addition to in-situ instrumentation on rovers such as Spirit and Opportunity. γ-ray spectroscopy can be used to determine the composition of Mars, but it has yet to be successfully carried out in-situ on Mars. This study describes some of the results obtained from the γ-ray spectrometer on 2001 Mars Odyssey during solar proton events and discusses whether the increased emissions are useful in γ-ray spectroscopy. The study shows that although increased γ-ray emissions were expected from the Martian surface during a solar proton event, they were not detected from orbit probably due to insufficient signal-to-background. However, this does not preclude the possibility of measuring changes in γ-ray flux corresponding to changes in solar activity on the surface of the planet.  相似文献

Linear polarization was observed in the S I 1437Å line in bright flaring points during the soft X-ray emission. The degree of polarization is about 25% and is detected at a signal to noise ratio of 2.9. The polarized electric vector is directed towards disk center to within 3°.This polarization could be due to collisional excitationm of S I by energetic electrons beamed in the vertical direction. We suggest that the heat flux in the region interconnecting the transition zone to the high chromosphere during the gradual phase of a flare could lead to an anisotropic excitation. Then the observed polarization would be due to vertical motions of the transition zone sweeping the preexisting chromosphere.  相似文献

本文对1981年5月8日16h13mUT开始的-N级Hα耀斑进行了图象处理,画出了等光度图。在此基础上,采用二种光度测量法:一是定点法,相对于日面上稳定的定点(~1″),测出50个亮点的位置及其光度变化;另一是亮点跟踪法,测出每一时刻最亮点的位置,看位置的变动。从而得到耀斑的精细结构与演化过程。   相似文献

Observations of the prompt afterglow of γ-ray burst events are unanimously considered of paramount importance for GRB science and cosmology. Such observations at NIR wavelengths are even more promising allowing the monitoring of high-z Ly- absorbed bursts as well as events occurring in dusty star-forming regions. In these pages we present rapid eye mount (REM), a fully robotized fast slewing telescope equipped with a high throughput NIR (Z, J, H, K) camera dedicated to detecting the prompt IR afterglow. REM can discover objects at extremely high redshift and trigger large telescopes to observe them. The REM telescope will simultaneously feed REM optical slitless spectrograph (ROSS) via a dichroic. ROSS will intensively monitor the prompt optical continuum of GRB afterglows. The synergy between the REM-IR camera and the ROSS spectrograph makes REM a powerful observing tool for any kind of fast transient phenomena. Beside its ambitious scientific goals, REM is also technically challenging since it represent the first attempt to locate a NIR camera on a small telescope providing, with ROSS, unprecedented simultaneous wavelength coverage on a telescope of this size.  相似文献

The computed photoionization rates in the discrete wavelength bands in the XUV spectra under quiet sun, moderate flare, strong flare and outstanding flare conditions have been presented graphically as a function of altitude in the height range 50 – 90 km to show the relative importance of solar X-rays below 10 Å. Ionospheric absorption data, measured by A1 technique at the Ionosphere Research Centre at the University of Delhi, Delhi (28.6°N) at a single radio wave frequency of 2.132 MHz have been analyzed under solar flare conditions, with a special emphasis on a solar flare event on 3 February, 1983 which started at 1115 IST, reached its peak at 1140 IST and persisted till 1400 IST, during which time the radio wave absorption exceeded 60 or 65 dB for nearly three and half hours. During solar flare, a direct correlation between large enhancements of solar X-ray flux and ionospheric absorption is observed.  相似文献

On March 2003, IBIS, the γ-ray imager on board the INTEGRAL satellite, detected an outburst from a new source, IGR J17464-3213, that turned out to be an HEAO-1 transient, namely H1743-322. The spectral and temporal evolutions of the source were observed by INTEGRAL in different periods. Also RXTE observed the source for the first time on 2003 March 29 during a PCA Galactic bulge scan. The source flux decayed below the RXTE PCA sensitivity limit in November 2003, then in April 2004 it was again detected by INTEGRAL. On July 3, 2004 the source was again detected by RXTE/PCA at a 2–10 keV intensity of 16 mCrab and on July 7, reached 69 mCrab. Recently, a new outburst was observed on August 2005. We briefly summarise here the behaviour of the source observed by INTEGRAL from March 2003 to August 2005. The new outbursts of the source and the analysis of all the data collected (now public) give a global view of the spectral and time behaviour of this X-ray transient.  相似文献

Relativistic neutrons were observed by the neutron monitors at Mt. Chacaltaya and Mexico City and by the solar neutron telescopes at Chacaltaya and Mt. Sierra Negra in association with an X17.0 flare on 2005 September 7. The neutron signal continued for more than 20 min with high statistical significance. Intense emissions of γ-rays were also registered by INTEGRAL, and during the decay phase by RHESSI. We analyzed these data using the solar-flare magnetic-loop transport and interaction model of Hua et al. [Hua, X.-M., Kozlovsky, B., Lingenfelter, R.E. et al. Angular and energy-dependent neutron emission from solar flare magnetic loops, Astrophys. J. Suppl. Ser. 140, 563–579, 2002], and found that the model could successfully fit the data with intermediate values of loop magnetic convergence and pitch-angle scattering parameters. These results indicate that solar neutrons were produced at the same time as the γ-ray line emission and that ions were continuously accelerated at the emission site.  相似文献

提出了一种基于光学测头成像的单相机视觉跟踪坐标测量系统。该系统中引入了一个转动平台带动相机运动,使相机光轴始终对准运动的光学测头中某一个光点,保证光学测头成像在畸变比较小的像面中心附近。给出了系统的组成结构,通过空间变换和光学成像原理建立了系统的非线性跟踪测量数学模型,给出了利用Newton非线性迭代算法求解跟踪方程的具体算法,通过实验验证了所建立的模型和求解方法的正确性。最后,分析了转动角度误差对测量结果的影响。  相似文献

After more than two years of operation, the imaging γ-ray SIGMA telescope has accumulated several days of observation toward well known X-ray binaries. Four bright sources falling in this category have been detected so far: The pulsar GX 1+4 near the center of our galaxy, the stellar wind accreting system 4U 1700-377, and the black hole candidates Cygnus X-1 and GX 339-4. Moreover, SIGMA have observed three transients sources, which turned out to be also hard X-ray sources : The burster KS 1731-260, Tra X-1, and the Musca Nova. The properties of these systems in the SIGMA domain will be reviewed and a spectral distinction between black holes and neutron stars will be sketched.  相似文献
