Intensity-time profiles of protons, alpha particles, and heavy ions (C, O, Fe) in the MeV/nucleon energy range have been analyzed for one solar particle event following the solar flare on September 23, 1978. The data have been obtained with the wide angle double dE/dx-E sensor of the Max-Planck-Institut/University of Maryland experiment onboard ISEE-3. We found time variations in the iron to helium ratio of up to 2 orders of magnitude and a significant variation of the O/He ratio during this event, whereas the C/O-ratio at the same energy/nucleon appears to be time independent. We investigated the influence of a rigidity dependent mean free path in interplanetary space and of rigidity dependent coronal propagation on heavy ion ratios during solar particle events. We found that both the magnitude and time scale of the ratio changes during the September 23 event cannot be explained by rigidity dependent interplanetary or coronal propagation alone. These ratio changes are probably caused by multiple injection at the sun.  相似文献

We report the first 3+1 dimensional model development for energetic atomic oxygen ions in the Earth's radiation belts. Energetic Oxygen ions cans be supplied to the Earth's Inner magnetosphere from the sun (as a component of solar wind and solar energetic particles), from anomalous cosmic rays, and from acceleration processes acting on ionospheric atomic oxygen ions. We have built a multi-dimensional oxygen ion model in the following free parameters: geomagnetic L-shell, the magnetic moment, the second adiabatic invariant, and the discrete charge state number. Quiet time, steady state oxygen ion distributions have been obtained numerically from an assumed outer radiation zone boundary condition at L=7, average values of the radial diffusion coefficients, and standard values for the exospheric neutral densities due to the MSIS-86 upper atmosphere and exosphere neutral thermal particle density model. Average distributions of free electrons in the plasmasphere were also assumed with a mean plasmapause location just beyond L=4. We included the six lowest ionic charge states of atomic oxygen (16O) based on an existing charge exchange cross section compilation by Spjeldvik and Fritz (1978). Computed oxygen ion distributions include the resulting equilibrium structure of energy oxygen ions between 10 KeV and 100 MeV.  相似文献

本文发表了在太阳高能粒子事件中,元素氦、碳、氮、氧、氖、镁、硅、硫和铁的离子电荷态的分布。研究结果表明,除氦之外上述元素的电荷态分布的不同离子价的数目是随元素的质量而增大。核子能量在2—3MeV范围内,这些元素的平均粒子强度相对于碳的平均粒子强度之间的相关性能够用离子价的数目随元素质量的增加来解释,而不能用日冕温度确定的电荷态平衡模型来解释。且得出结论,太阳高能粒子的离子电荷是在太阳耀斑区而不是在星际激波区产生。   相似文献

The black hole candidate Cygnus X-1 was observed in the hard X ray - soft γ ray energy range by the MISO telescope on two different occasions: in September 1979 and May 1980. We have measured two hard X-ray states of the source: in 1979 the observed spectrum confirms the superlow state measured in the same period by the HEAO-3 satellite, while in 1980 the MISO X-ray data are consistent with the so called low state of Cygnus X-1. In both occasions, no γ -ray excess has been observed above 200 KeV.  相似文献

This catalogue includes 49 confirmed gamma-ray bursts recorded by the Signe-2M experiment over the period September 1978 – January 1980. This Soviet-French experiment was launched on the three Soviet spacecraft Venera-11, Venera-12, and PROGNOZ-7. The PROGNOZ-7 spacecraft recorded bursts from November 1978 to May 1979. The Venera interplanetary spacecraft operated with short interruptions.The catalogue gives the histories of selected bursts with a time resolution of 1/64 s, which have never appeared in the literature. These time histories demonstrate the difference between and temporal peculiarities of these events. Table 1 summarizes precise burst arrival times at the spacecraft and the coordinates of the spacecraft at those times.  相似文献

分析了1996-2002年南北半球的太阳黑子相对数和南北半球太阳X射线耀斑级别(简称Imp)≥M1.0的太阳X射线耀斑的特征和不对称性.分析结果表明,南北半球的太阳耀斑活动的程度交替上升,在2001年7月以前北半球的太阳耀斑活动强于南半球,2001年7月开始耀斑活动逐渐以南半球为主.本文还逐月分析了1996—2001年南北半球的耀斑指数.2000年7月为第23周太阳指数最大的一个月,与第23周太阳黑子相对数最大月均值吻合.  相似文献

本文分析了1978—1979年1级以上的太阳耀斑对电离层总电子含量的影响. 给出了不同持续时间、不同亮度、不同季节、发生在日面不同位置上的太阳耀斑对电离层总电子含量的影响.分析结果表明,持续时间大于等于1.5小时的耀斑对电子含量有明显的扰动,耀斑出现后电子含量随之增加,在第4—5天增加到最大值,扰动持续数日;持续时间小于1.5小时的耀斑对电子含量影响甚微;非亮耀斑对电子含量的扰动小于亮耀斑;夏季出现的耀斑对电子含量无明显扰动,只有冬季出现的亮耀斑对电子含量有明显的扰动;太阳耀斑扰动电子含量有明显的日面位置东西不对称性,只有出现在日面东边、特别是E3区的太阳耀斑对电子含量才有明显的扰动.   相似文献

During solar flares, the X-ray radiation suddenly increases, resulting in an increase in the electron density of the atmospheric D region and a strong absorption of short-wave radio waves. Based on Langfang medium frequency (MF) radar, this paper analyzed the variation characteristics of D region in the lower ionosphere from 62 km to 82 km. The analysis focused on multiple C-level and M-level solar flare events before and after the large-scale flare event at 11:53 (UT) on September 6, 2017. The results show that it is difficult to detect the electron density over 70 km in Langfang during solar flares, but the electron density value can be obtained as low as 62 km, and the stronger the flare intensity, the lower the detectable electron density height. Besides, the equal electron density height, the received power of X and O waves will also be significantly reduced during the flares, and the reduction of equal electron density height has a weak linear relationship with flare intensity.  相似文献

Changes in the structure of the sunspot group and its magnetic field are studied in Hale Region 17644 (May 1981) in connection with the May 16 3B/X1 flare. The characteristic changes, also found in HR 16850 (May 1980) and HR 17098 (September 1980), are the following: Rapid motions of umbrae of opposite polarity in the vicinity of the magnetic zero line, parallel to this line, but in opposite direction. Appearence of new small spots before the flare, leading to a more complicated field structure. Simplification of the magnetic structure after the flare in some days, i.e. decrease of spot areas in the affected territory and the straightening of the magnetic zero line.  相似文献

Some sites for solar flares are known to develop where new magnetic flux emerges and becomes abutted against opposite polarity pre-existing magnetic flux (review by Galzauskas/1/). We have identified and analyzed the evolution of such flare sites at the boundaries of a major new and growing magnetic flux region within a complex of active regions, Hale No. 16918. This analysis was done as a part of a continuing study of the circumstances associated with flares in Hale Region 16918, which was designated as an FBS target during the interval 18 – 23 June 1980. We studied the initiation and development of both major and minor flares in Hα images in relation to the identified potential flare sites at the boundaries of the growing flux region and to the general development of the new flux. This study lead to our recognition of a spectrum of possible relationships of growing flux regions to flares as follows: (1) intimate interaction with adjacent old flux — flare sites centered at new/old flux boundary, (2) forced or “intimidated” interaction in which new flux pushes old field having lower flux density towards a neighboring old polarity inversion line where a flare then takes place, (3) “influential” interaction — magnetic lines of force over an old polarity inversion line, typically containing a filament, reconnect to the new emerging flux; a flare occurs with erupting filament when the magnetic field overlying the filament becomes too weak to prevent its eruption, (4) inconsequential interaction — new flux region is too small or has wrong orientation for creating flare conditions, (5) incidental — flare occurs without any significant relationship to new flux regions.  相似文献

The event was observed onboard the space probe Venera 11 at a heliolongitude close to 57°. Electron spectra in the energy range from 60 to 2100 keV are determined and compared with X ray spectra. As a result it was found that conditions of the “thin target” model were realized in the April 13, 1979 flare. Estimates of the total number of accelerated electrons and the energy of the flare are presented.  相似文献

An X-ray flare was observed from Algol using the low and medium energy detectors on the European Space Agency's EXOSAT observatory. Spectra obtained during the flare are well fitted by thermal continua while an Fe XXV emission feature was also detected. The strength of this feature indicates a cosmic abundance for iron. The data indicate that the flare occurred in a loop of height approximately 0.25 of the K star radius & with a magnetic field >300 Gauss.  相似文献

The French-Danish cosmic ray spectrometer was launched on HEAO-3 on September 20, 1979. This instrument was optimized to measure the charge composition and isotopic abundances of galactic cosmic rays with energies of about 0.5 to 7 GeV/nucleon, using the multi-Cerenkov detector technique and a flash tube hodoscope.The geomagnetic method used for isotope analysis required the accurate measurement of the momentum of each observed particle. The technique used and the problems involved are illustrated using observed data.The high charge resolution of the instrument permits complete separation of all chemical elements between Be and Ni, even at energies larger than 5 GeV/nucleon. Preliminary results are presented for relative abundances of individual elements 21 Z 28.  相似文献

The possible association with the high-energy neutrino event IceCube-170922A has sparked interest in the blazar TXS 0506+056. We present 72 instantaneous 1–22 GHz spectra measured over the past 20 years with the RATAN-600 telescope and compare them with the results of observations of 700 variable Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) studied within the same program. The recent radio flare of TXS 0506+056 started from a minimum in 2013 and reached its first peak in December 2017 and a second peak in May-June 2018. This was the third strong radio flare in this source since 1997. The spectrum remains nearly flat during the flares. The spectral shape and variability pattern observed in TXS 0506+056 are typical for variable AGN. RadioAstron Space VLBI observations in 2013–2015 did not detect TXS 0506+056 on space-ground baselines of more than 9 Earth diameters. However, an observation on 23 September 2015 resulted in the detection of interferometric signal on 6 Earth diameter baselines at 18 cm close to the detection limit. We consider the possibility that TXS 0506+056 and other AGN may accelerate relativistic protons more efficiently than electrons. Relativistic protons are necessary to produce both the high-energy neutrinos observed in the IceCube Observatory and the high AGN brightness temperatures implied by the RadioAstron detection. They may also provide the main contribution to the observed synchrotron radiation of parsec-scale AGN jets. This supports the suggestion that relativistic protons may play a much more important part in extragalactic astrophysics than earlier anticipated.  相似文献

As the human exploration of space has received new attention in the United States, studies find that exposure to space radiation could adversely impact the mission design. Galactic Cosmic Radiation (GCR), with its very wide range of charges and energies, is particularly important for a mission to Mars, because it imposes a stiff mass penalty for spacecraft shielding. Dose equivalent versus shielding thickness calculations, show a rapid initial drop in exposure with thickness, but an asymptotic behavior at a higher shielding thickness. Uncertainties in the radiobiology are largely unknown. For a fixed radiation risk, this leads to large uncertain ties in shielding thickness for small uncertainties in estimated dose. In this paper we investigate the application of steady-state, spherically-symmetric diffusion-convection theory of solar modulation to individual measurements of differential energy spectra from 1954 to 1989 in order to estimate the diffusion coefficient, kappa (r,t), as a function of time. We have correlated the diffusion coefficient to the Climax neutron monitor rates and show that, if the diffusion coefficient can be separated into independent functions of space and time: kappa (-r,t)=K(t)kappa 0 beta P kappa 1(r), where beta is the particle velocity and P the rigidity, then (i) The time dependent quantity 1/K(t), which is proportional to the deceleration potential, phi(r,t), is linearly related to the Climax neutron monitor counting rate. (ii) The coefficients obtained from hydrogen or helium intensity measurements are the same. (iii) There are different correlation functions for odd and even solar cycles. (iv) The correlation function for the Climax neutron monitor counting rate for given time, t, can be used to estimate mean deceleration parameter phi(t) to within +/- 15% with 90% confidence. We have shown that kappa(r,t) determined from hydrogen and/or helium data, can be used to fit the oxygen and iron differential energy spectra with a root mean square error of about +/- 10%, and essentially independent of the particle charge or energy. We have also examined the ion chamber and 14C measurements which allow the analysis to be extended from the year 1906 to 1990. Using this model we have defined reference GCR spectra at solar minimum and solar maximum. These can be used for space exploration studies and provide a quantitative estimate of the error in dose due to changes in GCR intensities.  相似文献

During the observation of solar cosmic rays on the Prognoz 6 and Helios 1 and 2 spacecrafts, several events with anomalous composition of accelerated particles (higher abundance of 3-He or Fe nuclei) occurred. We found seven such events from the period September to December 1977 for which data from the Prognoz 6 solar X-ray photometer are available. This material together with published optical and radio data from terrestrial observatories enabled us to identify more reliably the source flares and describe their characteristics. It turned out that the character of X-ray emission accompanying the emission of accelerated particles with anomalous composition shows no pronounced difference from other flares. No correlation has been found among the ratio 3-He/4-He and the angular distance between the field lines connected with the source flare and the place of observation. If a solar flare with anomalous ratio 3-He/4-He appears in a given active region, this region will probably produce other anomalous events.  相似文献
