A mathematical model is used to study the relative abundance of H+ and He+ ions in the topside ionosphere. It is found that the daytime light-ion densities are strongly coupled with the neutral densities. This fact arises difficulties in modelling the ion composition for IRI without taking into account any particular reference atmosphere. As an example, the transition heights between O+---H+ and O+---He+ are shown, plotted against the neutral densities. The supposed linear dependance gives a clear evidence that all light-ion ionization below these heights will experience stronger influence by the neutral atmosphere.  相似文献

We present an analysis of sporadic and recurrent injections of magnetospheric ions in the midnight auroral oval during substorms and of the associated ionospheric ion outflows. The source of plasma sheet precipitating ions is determined using a simple method, based on the measured relation between the ion inverse velocity and time (l = v × t). This method is applied here to two typical passes of the Interball-Auroral (IA) satellite at distances of 3 RE above the auroral regions. Substorm related ion injections are shown to be mainly due to time of flight effects. In contrast with particle trajectory computations (Sauvaud et al., 1999), the inverse velocity method does not require magnetic and electric field models and can thus be used systematically for the detection of time of flight dispersed ion structures (TDIS). This allowed us to build a large database of TDIS events and to perform a statistical analysis of their spatial distribution. For the cases presented here the source region of the injected ions is found at radial distances from 18 to 30 RE near the equatorial magnetosphere. At Interball altitudes ( 3 RE), ion injections detected at the poleward boundary of the nighside auroral oval are associated with shear Alfvén waves superimposed over large-scale quasi-static current structures. We show that the most poleward TDIS are collocated with a large outflow of ionospheric H+ and O+ displaying pitch-angle distributions peaked in the pitch-angle range 90°–120°. These ions are thus accelerated perpendicularly to the magnetic field not only in the main auroral acceleration region but also up to at least 3 RE. The expanding auroral bulge thus constitutes a significant source of H+ and O+ ions for the mid-tail magnetosphere.  相似文献

A global surface of O+---H+ transition level is constructed, based on published data from OGO-6, Intercosmos-2, Alouette-1, ISS-b, and TAIYO satellites. This surface covers ±60° dipole latitude, all longitudes, two levels of solar activity, summer and winter solstices, and 00 and 12 hours local time. The surface is used as input data to a mathematical model which calculates transition levels in 5-dimensional space: sunspot number (R), month (M), local time (LT), dipole latitude (DL), and longitude (LONG). This model is based on a generalized multivariable polynomial, using a system of linearly independent functions. Model transition levels are compared with averaged data from AE-E and AE-C, as well as rocket measurements from Vertical-6 and Vertical-10. The obtained analytical expression can be directly used in IRI.  相似文献

Ion composition data from the first 22 months of operation of the Polar/TIMAS instrument, covering the 15-eV/e to 33-keV/e energy range, have been surveyed to determine the typical abundance, at solar minimum, of N2+, NO+ and O2+ ions in the auroral ion outflow, as compared to that of the better known O+ ions. The results indicate that molecular ions have roughly the same energy distribution as the O+ ions, with maximum differential flux occurring below 400 eV, but are far less abundant, by two orders of magnitude. The molecular ions also differ from the O+ ions in that they seem more specifically associated with enhanced geomagnetic activity.  相似文献

Using data from the CHEM instrument on the AMPTE/CCE spacecraft, we follow the development of the ring current energy spectra (1–300 keV/e) of the ion species H+, O+, He+, and He++ in the post-noon and pre-noon local time sectors during the geomagnetic storm of February 1986. By comparing displays of phase space density, f, vs. magnetic moment, μ, we can distinguish between enhancements due to newly injected ions and those due to adiabatic energization of a pre-existing population. In both the local time sectors, the initial drop in Dst is associated with enhanced phase space densities of all species. The spectra observed during the pass when the Dst dropped to a minimem of −312 nT show a strong local time asymmetry. In the post-noon sector, the spectra showed the influx of a new population of ions, rich in O+ and He++. In the pre-noon sector, the flux increase was consistent with adiabatic energization of the ion population injected earlier in the storm. This local time difference is consistent with a greatly enhanced convection electric field which brings a new population from the magnetotail to the post-noon, but not the pre-noon local time sector.  相似文献

The field-aligned expansion of plasma clouds in the ionosphere was studied with different mathematical models and for a wide range of conditions. In all cases, the expanding plasma cloud acted as an electrostatic snowplow, creating an O+ hole in the ionosphere coincident with the cloud and O+ bumps on the two sides of the cloud that are aligned with the geomagnetic field.  相似文献

The ion density and magnetic field data from the Pioneer Venus Orbiter for the first three dayside periapsis passes have been analysed to study the effect of the large-scale fields upon the dayside ion density profiles. The peak value of the O+ density in a strongly magnetised ionosphere often shows an enhancement as compared to a close non-magnetic orbit. Further, the height of the O+ peak shows a positive correlation with the height of the minimum of the magnetic field profile. Contrary to earlier findings, the compressional effects of the magnetic fields are observed even at near-terminator locations.  相似文献

The data from the synchronous-orbit satellites of the Gorizont series are used to study the dependences of the ion flux variation amplitudes in the synchronous altitude region (the diurnal behaviour) on particle energies and on the form and rigidity of the particle energy spectrum. The proton fluxes were measured in the energy range E 60–120 keV, and the [N,0]2+ and [C,N,0]4+ ion fluxes in the energy range E 60–70 keV/e.

The ratio of the diurnal variation amplitudes of the studied ions is shown to correspond to the similarity of their energy spectra in the E/Q representation. The magnetically-quiet time gradient of the distribution function F(μ,J,L) in the synchronous-orbit region is shown to be (∂F/∂L)=0 for the H+ and [N,0]2+ ions and (∂F/∂L) > 0 for the [C,N,0]4+ ions (at the values of μ corresponding to the examined energy ranges). During magnetically-disturbed periods the inner boundary of the (∂F/∂L)=0 region shifts to lower L and (∂ F/∂L) = O in the synchronous altitude region must be also for the [C,N,O]4+ ions.  相似文献

高超声速飞行,激波后高温气体会发生电离,飞行器气动热环境复杂。5组元(N2,O2,NO,O,N)、7组元(N2,O2,NO,O,N,NO+,e-)和11组元(N2,O2,NO,O,N,N2+,O2+,NO+,O+,N+,e-)热化学反应采用Gupta化学反应模型,分别数值研究电离作用对高超声速热化学非平衡气动热环境影响。本文分析了不同催化壁面条件下,高超声速热化学非平衡电离流场气动热环境特性。电离作用对激波离体距离和气动力载荷的影响很小。5组元热化学非平衡不考虑电离作用,流场温度和壁面热流密度偏大。11组元热化学平衡强电离流场温度最低;7组元热化学非平衡弱电离流场NO+和e-生成量过低;11组元热化学反应能对热化学非平衡电离流场气动力和热流密度载荷可靠预测。壁面催化作用会增大壁面热流密度,但它对高超声速热化学非平衡电离流场温度和气动力载荷的影响很小。   相似文献

A method for investigating reconnection events is presented. The approach is based on advantages of non-linear spectral analysis named by the Method of Global Minimum and magnetic field measurements. The technique allows to reveal a presence and plasma properties of different particle species, waves, and time intervals of development of non-linear processes in the reconnection layers. We put into practice the approach to study the event on July 24, 1996 detected by Interball-1 and interpreted as gross deformation of the dayside magnetopause of about 5 RE caused by a process at the bow shock by (Sibeck et al., 1998). Our method of spectral analysis of the data reveals that plasma detected during the event consists of ions both solar wind and ionosphere origin. The spectrum of the magnetic field data is determined by periods caused by gyro-motions of different species of the solar wind plasma (Fe+6, O+6, He++) and the ionosphere ions (N++, He+), and power non-stationary (transient) oscillations at period T120 sec. (frequency8 mHz. We reveal the exchange of plasma from the solar wind to the magnetosphere during the event too. Based on results of our analysis we suggest that the simplest explanation of the discussed event is that these are signatures of transient reconnection of interplanetary and terrestrial magnetic fields.  相似文献

The basic photochemical processes in the upper atmospheres and ionospheres of the various bodies in our solar system (planets, moons and comets) are similar. However, there are many different factors (e.g. gas composition, energy input, gravity) which control/change the relative importance of these controlling processes. The photo-chemistry of the inner planets is reasonably well understood at this time, thus there is good agreement between model calculations and most of the observational data base. The extremely limited information that we have available on the ionospheres of the outer planets leads to significant uncertainties about some of the controlling processes. Some important questions (e.g. Is the charge exchange process H+ + H2(v≥4) → H2+ + H important? Is water vapor influx from the rings important?) remain unanswered at this time. In cometary atmospheres the freshly evaporated parent molecules are rapidly photodissociated and photoionized, therefore most of the chemical kinetics of cometary ionospheres involve these rapidly moving and highly reactive ions and radicals.  相似文献

在电离层高度释放SF6气体能够显著扰动电离层.根据SF6分子在电离层中的扩散方程,同时考虑其在电离层中主要的离子化学反应,研究了SF6气体释放后电离层各粒子浓度的时空变化,计算了产生人工气辉的体发射系数和发射强度.结果表明,SF6气体在电离层高度释放后,电子和O+的密度均有大幅度下降,主要的负离子成分由电子转变成SF5-;在释放过程中,主要产生777.4 nm和135.6 nm两种气辉,且前者的气辉强度远小于后者;电离层温度对气辉的强度有很大的影响.本文的数值计算与美国IMS/SF6实验观测数据进行比较,结果近似,且通过数据比较还能准确推断出实验时当地的电离层温度.  相似文献

The cleft ion fountain has been identified as a prodigious source of upflowing suprathermal ionospheric plasma. Modeling efforts have traced the path of these ions from the polar ionosphere along trajectories where the ions are energized to keV energies and deposited in the near earth plasma sheet. Mass and energy dispersion of these ions accounts in a natural way for the observed variation in heavy ion content of the plasma sheet. Observations of ion composition in the plasma sheet by the AMPTE and ISEE spacecraft establish that ionospheric ions dominate in the near earth plasma sheet but solar wind ions become significant tailward. The heavy ion content of the plasma sheet increases with both solar cycle and magnetic activity. Direct injection of ionospheric ions into the ring current has been observed in the outer plasmasphere. Several mechanisms for the direct injection of ions from the plasmasphere and ionosphere into the ring current have appeared. Estimation of ionospheric source strengths and residence times have led to an estimate of the magnetospheric densities that would result solely from an ionospheric outflow populating the magnetosphere. Estimated densities were quite reasonable even without inclusion of a solar wind source of ions. Ring current ions decay primarily via charge exchange with the hydrogen geocorona, however, the roles of pitch angle diffusion and Coulomb collisions in this decay process are being clarified.

Modeling and observations of ENA by the 1SEE1 spacecraft has led to a re-affirmation of the dominant role of charge exchange in ring current decay. Ion cyclotron waves contribute to ring current decay in the dusk bulge region. The role of low frequency. (< 1 Hz) ion cyclotron waves in the plasmasphere is still unclear. Other wave modes may be responsible for the pitch angle diffusion and subsequent loss of ring current ions. Coulomb collisional energy losses from ring current O+ to thermal electrons are sufficient to power SAR arcs and represent an energy sink for ring current O+ within the plasmasphere. Coulomb collisions may be important for decay of low energy (< 10 KeV) ring current ions in the plasmasphere.  相似文献

Variations in the high-latitude ionosphere structure during March 22, 1979 geomagnetic storm are examined. Electron density Ne and temperature Te from the Cosmos-900 satellite, NmF2, Ne and He+ from the ISS-b satellite, precipitation of soft electrons from the Intercosmos-19 satellite, and the global picture of the auroral electron precipitation from the DMSP, TIROS and P78 satellites are used. These multi-satellite databases allow us to investigate the storm-time variations in the locations of the following ionospheric structures: the day-time cusp, the equatorial boundary of the diffuse auroral precipitation (DPB), the main ionospheric trough (MIT), the day-time trough, the ring ionospheric trough (RIT) and the light ions trough (LIT). The variations in NmF2, Ne, He+ and Te in the high-latitude ionosphere for the different local time sectors are analyzed also. The features of the high-latitude ionospheric response to a strong magnetic storm are described.  相似文献

电离层参数f0F2的预报是电离层研究的一个重要方向.本文选取2011年北京、长春、青岛和苏州四个常规观测站的f0F2数据,分别采用卡尔曼滤波、自相关分析法和国际参考电离层模型(IRI)对f0F2实施短期预报(提前1h预报),并通过与实际观测数据的对比,对三种方法预报f0F2的性能进行了比较.研究结果表明,在磁平静时期,采用卡尔曼滤波方法进行f0F2预报的均方误差为0.532MHz,相对误差8.11%,比国际电离层参考模型的均方误差和相对误差分别降低1.47MHz和14.58%;采用自相关分析方法进行f0F2预报的均方根误差为0.967MHz,相对误差11.46%,比国际电离层参考模型的均方误差和相对误差分别降低1.035MHz和11.23%.比较结果说明二者对f0F2短期预报的精度相对于国际电离层参考模型均有大幅提升.对磁暴期间三种方法的预测性能做了进一步比较,试验结果表明卡尔曼滤波短期预报性能总体上优于自相关分析法,这为f0F2短期预报的方法选择提供了一定指导.   相似文献

The amount of measured temperature data accumulated in recent years allows and asks for improvement and refinement of the rather crude temperature models employed in the International Reference Ionosphere 1979. By combining the mission-oriented models by BRACE, THEIS /2/ for the AE-C satellites and by SPENNER, PLUGGE /1/ for the AEROS-A satellite, a much better diurnal and latitudinal reliability can be obtained. It is also suggested that IRI should have the option to make use of the strong anti-correlation between electron temperature and density in cases where actual measured densities are available. For daytime condition, incorporation of a density dependent model into IRI can significantly enhance the prediction quality of IRI in the altitude range 300 to 600 km.Furtheron, the solar activity dependence of the electron temperature and of the density-temperature-relation are investigated by comparing the low solar activity models with more recent AE-C and -DE data.  相似文献

Nitrogen is an essential element for life. Specifically, “fixed nitrogen” (i.e., NH3, NH4+, NOx, or N that is chemically bound to either inorganic or organic molecules and is releasable by hydrolysis to NH3 or NH4+) is the form of nitrogen useful to living organisms. To date no direct analysis of Martian soil nitrogen content, or content of fixed nitrogen compounds has been done. Consequently, the planet's total inventory of nitrogen is unknown. What is known is that the N2 content of the present-day Martian atmosphere is 0.2 mbar. It has been hypothesized that early in Mars' history (3 to 4 billion years ago) the Martian atmosphere contained much more N2 than it does today. The values of N2 proposed for this early Martian atmosphere, however, are not well constrained and range from 3 to 300 mbar of N2. If the early atmosphere of Mars did contain much more N2 than it does today the question to be answered is, Where did it go? The two main processes that could have removed it rapidly from the atmosphere include: 1) nonthermal escape of N-atoms to space; and 2) burial within the regolith as nitrates and nitrites. Nitrate will be stable in the highly oxidized surface soil of Mars, and will tend to accumulate in the soil. Such accumulations are observed in certain desert environments on Earth. Some NH4+---N may also be fixed and stabilized in the soil by inclusion as a structural cation in the crystal lattices of certain phyllosilicates replacing K. Analysis of the Martian soil for traces of NO3 and NH4+ during future missions will supply important information regarding the nitrogen abundance on Mars, its past climate as well as its potential for the evolution of life.  相似文献

Ring current ions and relativistic electrons simultaneously measured on board MOLNIYA-1 are analyzed in comparison with the ground-based magnetometer data for the period of a strong magnetic storm (|Dst|max≈230 nT). Injection of >500 keV electrons into the slot region (L≈3) near equatorial plane is occurred on time scale ≈1 hour, when, during the magnetic storm maximum, the extreme low-latitude position of auroral electrojets is reached and ring current becomes more symmetrical. Positions of both the ring current maximum and electron intensity maximum (Lmax) are consistent to our previous result: |Dst|max = 2.75 • 104/L4max. An extreme storm-time low-latitude position of the west electrojet center (for amplitudes of |Dst|max up to 600 nT) is shown to be in a good consistence with this empirical dependence. It is supposed the trapped radiation boundary collapses down to L≈Lmax in the course of the storm main phase.  相似文献

原子氧135.6 nm夜气辉主要由氧离子O+与电子的辐射复合反应生成,一些星载远紫外遥感观测任务证实135.6 nm夜气辉可用于反演电离层电子密度。针对远紫外临边遥感观测反演电离层电子密度,分析了135.6 nm夜气辉辐射强度与电子密度之间的非线型前向模型,基于离散反演理论设计了从夜间135.6 nm临边观测数据反演电子密度高度分布的反演算法,算法应用最大似然估计通过迭代求解电离层参数的最佳拟合值。通过仿真计算了TIMED卫星上全球紫外成像仪GUVI观测的反演结果,验证了本反演算法的可行性。对GUVI的实际观测数据进行反演,获得了电子密度高度分布。通过与GUVI数据的电离层参数对比分析得出,本文建立的反演模型使NmF2被高估,同时使hmF2被低估。对于不同的太阳活动强度,NmF2和 hmF2的系统误差分别在10%和5%以内,能较精确地获得电离层参数。精确获得电离层电子密度信息对于提高空间天气预报及电离层模型的修正具有重要意义。   相似文献
