Abstract: | This paper provides a review of the out-of-ground-effect propulsion-induced interference on the aerodynamics of jet-lift short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) aircraft. Two main flight regimes are discussed; hover and transition wherein the main fluid dynamics phenomena that cause the interference are presented. Where possible, an engineering assessment is made of the effect of jet and/or airframe configuration parameters on the observed interference effects. |
