Abstract: | Three balloons were launched from Hyderabad, India in order to measure the electrical conductivity in the stratosphere. The measurements show that at the float altitude of around 34 km the positive ion conductivity is higher than the negative ion conductivity by a factor of 3 to 5 during daytime. In nighttime they differ by a factor of around 1.3. The conductivity values measured during one of the balloon flights (Apr. 1984) showed marked variations with time. It is suggested that these variations might have a weather related origin. |
