Future launcher perspectives at the European Space Agency-ESA

During recent years, a number of factors have totally changed the picture in which Europe had initiated the development of its own launch vehicle, ARIANE. This now requires us to ponder the steps which have to be taken in order to preserve the initial objectives of independent access to space and the commercial success in the new worldwide scenario, in coherence with European strategic, economic and political interests.
