Abstract:The definition of near space and the types of vehicles in near space were simply described . The developmental
course of hypersonic vehicles in near space in America was reviewed. The research objects and the military
application of Falcon program were mainly introduced. The development of thermal protective materials for hypersonic
vehicles in Falcon program was emphasized.
