CEOS: its role and activities

The Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) was created, as a ‘best efforts’ organisation, in 1984, and has developed into the primary international cooperative body in this field. This article, written by the current Chairman of CEOS, describes CEOS’ membership, objectives and organisation, and looks in more detail at its role in the definition and implementation of an Integrated Global Observing Strategy (IGOS).
