The Role of Small Satellites in the National Information Infrastructure

Small-to median sized satellites will play important roles in future hybrid network architectures,which will provide ubiquitous multimedia access to a wide variety of information services.This paper examines(NII).Satallite communication will be an important element of transmission fabric upon which these future hybrid network architectures will be based.Recent technological advances will enable future modest-sized satellites to possess the reguisile high-performance characteristics needed in tomorrow's networks.Considerations are presented for some appropriate roles for small satellites in the emerging NII.
