Abstract:A new technique is presented to utilize vibration measurements to estimatestructural inertia properties(mass,location of the centre of mass,and components ofinertia moment).The structure to be measured is flexibly supported,and excited. Forcesand responses in various locations are measured.Through signal analysis and modalparameters estimation,the rigid modes and flexible modes are obtained. Byorthogonality conditions,a rigid body mass matrix is calculated, and then the inertiaproperties can be determined. Rigid body modes fitting and structural modification areused to improve the accuracy of the results.Simulation and application of a beam haveshown the feasibility and effectiveness of the technique.
