THE CONTROL OF SPACE FLEXIBLE STRUCTURE

The generic problem of moving flexible structure is presented for trying to obtain both good steady state response and transient response in the space environment. In this paper the system studied a flexible cantilevered beam that is an elemental space structure. A mathematical model for the beam system was developed and a state feedback strategy was modified in response to different inputs and disturbances. A state estimator augments the control strategy to provide state rate information that is not available from the instrumentation. That was made to simulate system responses and test the strategy experimentally. The results were encouraging.
