A Design of Logarithmic IF-Amplifier for Weather Radar

For the weather radar receiver the dynamic range is one of the important parameters. Dynamic range directly determines the ability of the radar receiver detecting small signal and large signals. However, if the IF receiver design uses a linear amplifier, the detection of large-signal often leads to nil because of the saturation of receiver. The method of logarithmic amplifier is a good solution. In this design, the method of a logarithmic IF-amplifier is introduced. This kind of amplifier uses dual-gain IF amplifier with excellent performance for moving targets indication.
