Falling weight deflectometer

This paper introduces a device for measuring the strength parameters of pavements, which is widely used in the world today. Its operating principle and component part are described in detail. This is a advance device which can simulate the passing wheel load and estimate the strength of pavements with dynamic force method. Its basic principle is as follow: the impulsive force caused by the falling weight is applied to the test pavement. After that, the deflection of the pavement caused by load is measured. By analysing the relation between the deflection and the impulsive force, the ability of the tested pavement to bear its working load can be estimated.
