Abstract:By improving the manufacturing process, NICALON SiC multifilments reinforced Al preform wire was obtained with tensile strength of 1000 MPa. The microstructure of wires were analyzed with scanning electron microscope. It was found that the improvement of the interface bond is the main reason of increasing the strength. Further possible improvement of the wire was proposed. The effects of thermal exposure on the wire strength were also investigated.
