Abstract:The life estimation of bolts (fasteners) under shear loads is a problem ocouring frequently in engineering structures, so that the Detail Fatigue Rating (DFR,) of fasteners under shear loads is an important parameter in the fatigue analysis. The relation between DFR, and other fatigue parameters and the test determination method of DFR, are presented in this paper. The determination of DFR, for bolts under shear loads by means of fatigue test results for smooth specimens under tensile loads, taking into account of the fretting effect is emphatically presented.
