Electric gaps in pulsar magnetospheres

Two contrasting models of the magnetosphere are studied: a classical, quasi-mhd model, in which it is the componentE that accelerates electrons to relativistic energies; and a model with e⁺-e^– production, in which the componentE is locally crucial, both in an acceleration domain near the star and in a dissipation domain beyond the light-cylinder.
