Coronal fast wave trains of the decimetric type IV radio event observed during the decay phase of the June 6, 2000 flare

The 22 min long decimetric type IV radio event observed during the decay phase of the June 6, 2000 flare simultaneously by the Brazilian Solar Spectroscope (BSS) and the Ond?ejov radiospectrograph in frequency range 1200–4500 MHz has been analyzed. We have found that the characteristic periods of about 60 s belong to the long-period spectral component of the fast wave trains with a tadpole pattern in their wavelet power spectra. We have detected these trains in the whole frequency range 1200–4500 MHz. The behavior of individual wave trains at lower frequencies is different from that at higher frequencies. These individual wave trains have some common as well as different properties. In this paper, we focus on two examples of wave trains in a loop segment and the main statistical parameters in their wavelet power and global spectra are studied and discussed.

Ducted and non-ducted propagation of Omega signals within the plasmasphere

Signals of the transmitter of the Omega navigation system located in the Southern Hemisphere (Reunion, 21.0°S, 55.3°E, L= 1.35) recorded by Interkosmos satellites on passes over the Northern Hemisphere, have shown that these signals can be detected in the conjugate region within a range of L-values between 1.5 – 3.0. Both ducted and non-ducted propagation has been observed. The most frequent propagation is in the whistler mode along the line of forceL= 1.8. The measured signal delays are in accordance with the observed dispersion of whistlers.     

Relation between galactic and solar cosmic radiation at aviation altitude

Cosmic radiation bombards us at high altitude with ionizing particles; the radiation has a galactic component, which is normally dominant, and a component of solar origin. Cosmic ray particles are the primary source of ionization in the atmosphere above 1 km; below 1 km radon is a dominant source of ionization in many areas.

Observations of whistler-type echoes on signals of a ground VLF transmitter on board the ‘iterkosmos-19’ satellite

Signals of VLF transmitters of the Omega navigation system located in the auroral zone (66.4°N, 13.2°E, L= 5) were recorded by the VLF receiving equipment of the Interkosmos 19 satellite. Signals at frequencies between 10.2 and 13.6 kHz were received in a region above the transmitters, frequently with whistler-type echoes. An analysis of these echoes has shown their predominating occurrence in periods of low geomagnetic activity (Kp<2+). The occurrence region of these phenomena in the outer ionosphere has the dimension of about 1000 km and its position is betweenL= 2.5 and L= 4.4. The delay of echo-signals is practically the same during one satellite pass but its values for different satellite revolutions lie between 2.5 and 3.5 s. The frequency spectrum of these signals can be broadened up to 100 Hz. On the basis of calculations made, it can be shown that the experimental results are generally in accordance with the hypothesis of nonlinear ducting of VLF waves in the magnetosphere.     

Planck-LFI 44 GHz back end module

This work describes the principle of operation, assembly and performance of one branch of the 44 GHz back end module (BEM) for the Planck low frequency instrument (LFI). This subsystem constitutes a fully representative branch of the qualification-model version (QM). It includes waveguide to microstrip transition, GaAs pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistor (PHEMT) low noise amplifiers (LNA), bandpass filter, square-law detector and dc amplifier. The fundamentals of the design of the RF part are described and all of the components have been tested individually before integration. Using single tone and wideband noise stimuli, the output voltage has been measured for several input powers, in order to obtain the sensitivity factor of the complete BEM. The effective bandwidth and the equivalent noise temperature have been calculated from the measurements, taking into account the frequency dependence on the noise source and the BEM. Finally, the low frequency output power spectrum has been obtained and a maximum 1/f knee frequency around 200 Hz has been measured with a 3 dB output signal video bandwidth above 50 KHz.     

平面叶栅内固体粒子运动特性的实验研究

 利用ＮａｃＥ－１０型高速摄影机拍摄了流经平面叶栅的气固两相流中固体粒子的运动过程；在ＭｏｖｉｅｓＭｏｄｅｌ１００型胶片运动分析仪上对固体粒子的运动轨迹和速度进行了分析；并讨论了粒子的尺寸、初始速度的大小和方向对粒子在叶栅内运动特性的影响。     

Rigidity dependence of Forbush decreases in the energy region exceeding the sensitivity of neutron monitors

Applicability of our present setup for solar modulation studies in a shallow underground laboratory is tested on four prominent examples of Forbush decrease during solar cycle 24. Forbush decreases are of interest in space weather application and study of energy-dependent solar modulation, and they have been studied extensively. The characteristics of these events, as recorded by various neutron monitors and our detectors, were compared, and rigidity spectrum was found. Linear regression was performed to find power indices that correspond to each event. As expected, a steeper spectrum during more intense extreme solar events with strong X-flares shows a greater modulation of galactic cosmic rays. Presented comparative analysis illustrates the applicability of our setup for studies of solar modulation in the energy region exceeding the sensitivity of neutron monitors.
