To estimate the effect of the solar variability on the climate, two estimates of the solar intensity variations during the last three centuries have been used as forcing in numerical simulations. The model employed to carry out the experiments was the same coupled global ocean-atmosphere model used in a number of studies to assess the effect of the anthropogenic greenhouse gases on climate. The near surface temperature and the tropospheric temperature distribution shows a clear response to the variability of the solar input. Even the thermohaline circulation reacts on the large amplitudes in the forcing. In the stratosphere, the response pattern is similar as in the observations, however, the 11-year cycle found in the forcing data does not excite an appreciable response. This might be due to the missing parameterisation of the increase in the UV-radiation at the solar cycle maximum and the connected increase of the stratospheric ozone concentration.  相似文献

This paper discusses the concept, design, and design verification of the White Sands Range and Range-Rate System. Development of the system has been completed only through the design phase. The system is designed to meet requirements for high-accuracy midcourse tracking under severe target dynamics at the White Sands Missile Range. It is a multistatic Doppler and range tracker which operates at X band and incorporates transmitter, transponder, receiver, and baseline subsystems. The transmitter includes specially designed digital circuitry to synthesize test signals for target simulation during checkout of the system. The transponder signal is processed by a receiver which has been established theoretically to be the optimum realizable processor of continuous tracking data. The receiver incorporates specially designed carrier acquisition circuitry and digital VCO, and directly provides digital Doppler and tone phase data to facilitate real-time processing. The system utilizes data from other tracking systems at the Range for spatial acquisition, for aiding carrier acquisition in the receiver, and for resolving range ambiguities.  相似文献

Data are presented on the zones of energetic particle precipitation at middle and low latitudes observed during and after magnetic storm injection events. Satellite measurements of the equatorial zone ion flux (~ 103 - 104 cm?2 s?1 sr?1 for E > 45 keV at 240 km) are consistent with the development of a temporary low altitude ion radiation belt at the magnetic equator. In the midlatitude ion zone the flux (~ 103 - 105 ions cm?2 s?1 sr?1 for E > 45 keV at 220 km) is directly related to magnetic activity while the midlatitude electron zone flux has a delayed response (~ 4 days).  相似文献

The IMAGE mission will be the first of its kind, designed to comprehensively image a variety of emissions from the Earth's magnetosphere, with sufficient time resolution to follow the dynamics associated with the development of magnetospheric storms. Energetic neutral atoms (ENA) emitted from the ring current during storms are one of the key emissions that will be imaged. This paper describes the characteristics of the High Energy Neutral Atom imager, HENA. Using pixelated solid state detectors, imaging microchannel plates, electron optics, and time of flight electronics, HENA is designed to return images of the ENA emitting regions of the inner magnetosphere with 2 minute time resolution, at angular resolution of 8 degrees or better above the energy of 50 keV/nucleon. HENA will also image separately the emissions in hydrogen, helium, and oxygen above 30 keV/nucleon. HENA will reject energetic ions below 200 keV/charge, allowing ENA images to be returned in the presence of ambient energetic ions. HENA images will reveal the distribution and the evolution of energetic ion distributions as they are injected into the ring current during geomagnetic storms, as they drift about the Earth on both open and closed drift paths, and as they decay through charge exchange to pre-storm levels. Substorm ion injections will also be imaged, as will the regions of low altitude, high latitude ion precipitation into the upper atmosphere.  相似文献
