A robust method has been developed for estimating sediment settling velocity (ws) from high resolution optical remote sensing data in estuarine, coastal and harbor waters. This method estimates settling velocity as a function of the drag coefficient (Cd), Reynolds number (Re), grain size (D50), specific gravity (ΔSG) and grain shape (in terms of the Corey Shape Factor – CSF). These parameters were derived from the particulate inherent optical properties such as backscattering (bbp), beam attenuation (cp), suspended sediment concentration and turbidity using Landsat 8 OLI and HICO data. Preliminary results for the Gulf of Cambay in the eastern Arabian Sea and Yangtze river estuary in the East China Sea, showed that satellite-retrieved settling velocities (m?s?1) varied from very low values in clear oceanic waters, intermediate values in coastal waters, to very high values in river plumes and sediment-laden coastal waters. The remote sensing retrievals of sediment properties and their settling velocities were generally consistent with the field and laboratory results, which indicate that the proposed methodology will have important implications in various coastal engineering, environmental and management studies. 相似文献

Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) suggests the use of machine learning algorithms with the aim of understanding specific behaviors in a structural system. This work introduces a pattern recognition methodology for operational condition clustering in a structure sample using the well known Density Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise (DBSCAN) algorithm. The methodology was validated using a data set from an experiment with 32 Fiber Bragg Gratings bonded to an aluminum beam placed in cantilever and submitted to cyclic bending loads under 13 different operational conditions (pitch angles). Further, the computational cost and precision of the machine learning pipeline called FA + GA-DBSCAN (which employs a combination of machine learning techniques including factor analysis for dimensionality reduction and a genetic algorithm for the automatic selection of initial parameters of DBSCAN) was measured. The obtained results have shown a good performance, detecting 12 of 13 operational conditions, with an overall precision over 90%. 相似文献

The aeroengine casing ring forgings have complex cross-section shapes, when the conventional ultrasonic or phased array is applied to detect such curved surfaces, the inspection images always have low resolution and even artifacts due to the distortion of the wave beam. In this article, taking a type of aeroengine casing ring forging as an example, the Total Focusing Method (TFM) algorithms for curved surfaces are investigated. First, the Acoustic Field Threshold Segmentation (AFTS) algorithm is proposed to reduce background noise and data calculation. Furthermore, the Vector Coherence Factor (VCF) is adopted to improve the lateral resolution of the TFM imaging. Finally, a series of 0.8 mm diameter Side-Drilled Holes (SDHs) are machined below convex and concave surfaces of the specimen. The quantitative comparison of the detection images using the conventional TFM, AFTS-TFM, VCF-TFM, and AFTS-VCF-TFM is implemented in terms of data volume, imaging Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), and defect echo width. The results show that compared with conventional TFM, the data volume of AFTS-VCF-TFM algorithm for convex and concave is decreased by 32.39% and 73.40%, respectively. Moreover, the average SNR of the AFTS-VCF-TFM is gained up to 40.0 dB, while the average 6 dB-drop echo width of defects is reduced to 0.74 mm. 相似文献
