Cross Polarization in Radomes: A Program for Its Computation   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
A study is made of transmission by radomes, with particular reference to cross polarization, and of the consequent radiation patterns of the radome with its aerial for both linear and circular polarizations. The work is embodied in a computer program which considers a scanner of specifiable size, position, and power distribution at different orientations inside a multilayer radome of given dimensions, class of shape, and construction in terms of the number and properties of its layers. Initially, rays are traced from points on the scanner, and details of their paths and propagation are presented in tables of preliminary results; later, diffraction theory is used. Polar diagrams of cross polarization, of main beam, etc., are presented in final tables for the system. Nearly all the parameters are specifiable, and so the program has reasonably general applicability, and it can also assess the effects of bandwidth, tapering of layer thickness, complex permittivity, and other parameters of the system.  相似文献

Plots of performance degradation are used to compare the effects of fading and intersymbol interference in a two- component specular multipath digital communications channel. Similar plots are then used to compare two practical receivers designed to combat the interference. Degradation plots are shown to allow easy identification of each receiver's range of usefulness, as well as identification of variance bounds demanded of channel parameter estimates which the receivers require.  相似文献

The detection of X-rays from Nova Muscae 1983 (discovered on January 18, 1983) constitutes the first detection of X-rays from a classical nova during outburst. X-ray observations were carried out on 1984 April 20 and July 14 when Nova Mus had entered the nebular stage. During both observations no significant flux was observed with the medium energy detectors (2–50 keV). The source was detected with the low energy detector (.04–2 keV) using 3000 Å Lexan and Parlene- N-Aluminium filters; counting rates of (3.4 ± 1.2) × 103 and (3.7 ± 1.2 × 10-3 counts/sec were measured with the respective filters. The source was detected again on July 14 with about the same intensity. Either a shocked shell of circumstellar gas emitting 107 thermal bremsstrahlung at 1035 erg/sec intensity or a white dwarf remnant emitting 3.5 × 105 blackbody radiation at 1037 erg/sec luminosity are compatible with the measurements.Spectra taken in the visual spectral range show strong forbidden coronal emission lines of [FeVII] 6085, [FeX] 6374, and as never observed before in such a strength, [FeXIV] 5303 requiring excitation temperatures of 2 × 106 °K.  相似文献

This paper develops synthesis techniques for a particular type of single-sideband sinusoidal carrier which is phase modulated by a subcarrier. Mathematical expressions for signal efficiency, sensitivity of design to parameter variation, and ratio of peak to average power are derived and incorporated in a computer program. Given the desired power ratios for modulated signal components, the program solves for the corresponding modulation parameters and evaluates signal efficiency, design sensitivity, and peak to average power ratio. The relative merits of intercept and pure pursuit homing are investigated by comparing the expected flight times to a nonmaneuvering target. The analysis is performed for the initial target heading angle uniformly distributed with arbitrary mean and variance. Two specific examples illustrate that intercept homing holds little statistical advantage over pure pursuit homing except when the speed advantage of the missile is very small.  相似文献

The development of the new CIRA will require the combination of winds from many sources, e.g. rockets (ROCOB) up to ~60 km, and radar winds ~60–110 km. Difficulties are that such rocket data have larger errors at 60–65 km, and tidal effects may become significant. Radar data for 60–80 km may also have tidal contamination, due to ? 16h of data per day: from 80–110 km tidal corrections are usually reliable.Comparisons are made between the unique Saskatoon MF radar set, which is continuous from mid 1978–1983, and the ROCOB data from Primrose Lake, which is only 340 km northwest. While the agreement is satisfactory, special care is required when matching the two regions: particular problems are the low rocket sampling rate, and the unexpectedly large amplitude of the diurnal tide. Important differences from the zonal winds of CIRA-72 emerge, especially in winter months. Meridional cross-sections differ from previous data models in the extent of the summer equatorward flow.  相似文献

Most of the southern hemisphere of Mars is densely cratered and stands 1–3 km above the topographic datum. The northern hemisphere is more sparsely cratered and elevations are generally below the datum. A broad rise, the Tharsis bulge, centered at 14° S, 101° W, is 8000 km across and 10 km above the datum at its summit. The densely cratered terrain has two main components; very ancient crust, nearly saturated with large craters, and younger intercrater plains. In many areas the older unit is fractured and extensively dissected by small channels. The younger intercrater plains are distinctly layered in places and less dissected, less fractured, and less cratered. Both units probably date from very early in the planet's history. Cratered plains cover much of the northern hemisphere and are highly variegated. Those around the large volcanoes are covered with numerous volcanic flows whereas in other areas the plains are featureless except for craters and lunar mare-like ridges. Between 40° N and 60° N the plains are complex with various kinds of striped and patterned ground, low escarpments, and isolated irregularly shaped mesas. Their peculiar morphology has been attributed, in part, to the repeated deposition and removal of volatile-rich debris layers. Along the boundary between the northern plains and the densely cratered terrain to the south, the plains and cratered terrain complexly inter-finger. The old terrain forms the high ground and appears to have undergone mass wasting on a large scale. In several areas, particularly south of Chryse Planitia, the old, cratered surface has collapsed to form chaotic terrain. Large channels, tens of kilometers wide and hundreds of kilometers long, with numerous characteristics suggestive of catastrophic flooding, commonly emerge from the chaotic areas. Much of the area between 50° W and 180° W and 50° N and 50° S is cut by fractures radial to the center of the Tharsis bulge. The equatorial canyon system, Valles Marineris, is radial to the bulge and appears to have formed largely by faulting along the radial fractures, although it has also been extensively modified by various mass wasting and fluvial processes. Most but not all volcanoes are in the Tharsis and Elysium regions. The largest resemble terrestrial shield volcanoes except for scale; the edifices, flow features and calderas are all far larger than their terrestrial counterparts. Most impact craters on Mars are surrounded by layers of ejecta, each with a distil ridge. This unique morphology coupled with other surface characteristics suggests large amounts of ground ice. Layered deposits at both poles appear to be relatively young, volatile-rich, aeolian deposits. The north pole is also surrounded by a continuous belt of dunes several tens of kilometers across. In most other places, aeolian modification of the surface at a scale of several tens of meters appears slight despite annual global dust storms.  相似文献
