Optimum Acquisition of the Idling First-Order Phase-Locked Loop

Acquisition of the idling first-order phase-locked loop (PLL) is investigated. An analytical solution for the Fokker-Planck equation is found if the noise term is neglected. Furthermore, the modulation signal that optimizes the acquisition is obtained by use of phase-plane techniques and Pontryagin's minimum principle.     

The effect of head-down tilt on brain potentials related to visual attention

To study the possible effect of simulated weightlessness on brain function state, the brain event-related potentials (ERPs) in a simple visual selective response task were compared between HDT and HUT in 9 normal subjects. The results were: The Target(T) and non-Target(NT) flash signals both induced significant slow positive potentials which were supposed to related to the attention state; the amplitude of the positive potentials in frontal regions decreased significantly especially for NT-ERPs during HDT comprared with that during HUT. The data reported provide new evidence indicating that more attention should be paid on the brain function study during space flight.     

Considerations for the Short-Term Stability of Frequency Multipliers

The effects of frequency multiplication circuits on the short-term stability of an oscillator system are analyzed. The short-term stability of real components such as varactor multipliers are compared to the short-term stability of an ?ideal? frequency multiplier which maintains the stability of the basic oscillator. In addition, it is shown that positive feedback like that used in a synchronized oscillator, while useful for tracking, degrades short-term stability.     

Enhancing Maintainability of the AWG-10 Through Built-In-Test Equipment

Multimode airborne weapons systems are now a reality. Because of the increased complexity of these systems, excessive maintenance time has become a problem. This paper describes an approach to reducing maintenance time through the use of semiautomatic built-in-test equipment within the framework of an integrated maintenance program. Emphasis is placed on the methods and hardware involved in the built-in-test mechanization as well as describing the development history of this type of maintenance concept.     

Identification of Rotating Assembly Inertial and Bearing Parameters

The problem of estimating the state of a turbopump rotating assembly and identifying unknown products of inertia and unknown bearing parameters is considered. A linearized, extended Kalman filtering approach has been used and found to be successful for both state estimation and parameter identification in an inherently nonlinear problem. The input data was simulated Bently test data which was obtained from a verified 12-dimensional state-space model and was compared with real Bently test data obtained from NASA. The results prove the feasibility of using this model and this type of test data to obtain the hidden parameters of a typical turbopump rotating assembly. This method should lead to improved performance by allowing improved balancing of the rotor and giving improved knowledge of the bearing reactions.     

Acquisition Time of Second-Order Aided PLL

The analysis of a second-order tracking loop operating in the frequency-search mode is carried out by the quasi-stationary approach. An arbitrary phase detector characteristic is assumed and perfect or imperfect integrating filters are considered. The theory leads to a closed-form expression of the acquisition time versus the relevant system parameters, the initial detuning, and the search rate. The limitations of this analysis concern the absence of noise and the hypothesis of large initial detuning.     

A technique for presentation and application of the propeller fan multidimensional characteristics in semi-full-scale simulation of a gas turbine engine and its automatic control system

A technique for linear interpolation of the multidimensional characteristics of a coaxial propeller fan with opposite rotation propellers is proposed; the technique makes it possible to simulate the turbofan engine operation in the entire range of flight conditions and reduce expenses for fullscale tests. The mathematical models obtained meet the requirements imposed in the semi-full-scale simulation.
