One of the highest-priority issues for a future human or robotic lunar exploration is the lunar dust. This problem should be studied in depth in order to develop an environment model for a future lunar exploration. A future ESA lunar lander mission requires the measurement of dust transport phenomena above the lunar surface. Here, we describe an instrument design concept to measure slow and fast moving charged lunar dust which is based on the principle of charge induction. LDX has a low mass and measures the speed and trajectory of individual dust particles with sizes below one micrometer. Furthermore, LDX has an impact ionization target to monitor the interplanetary dust background. The sensor consists of three planes of segmented grid electrodes and each electrode is connected to an individual charge sensitive amplifier. Numerical signals were computed using the Coulomb software package. The LDX sensitive area is approximately 400 cm2. Our simulations reveal trajectory uncertainties of better than 2° with an absolute position accuracy of better than 2 mm.  相似文献

Detecting mineral-hosted ecosystems to assess the extent and functioning of the biosphere from the surface to deep Earth requires appropriate techniques that provide, beyond the morphological criteria, indubitable clues of the presence of prokaryotic cells. Here, we evaluate the capability of cathodoluminescence microscopy and spectroscopy, implemented on a scanning electron microscope, to identify prokaryotes on mineral surfaces. For this purpose, we used, as a first step, a simple model of either unstained or stained cultivable cells (Escherichia coli, Deinococcus radiodurans) deposited on minerals that are common in the oceanic crust (basaltic glass, amphibole, pyroxene, and magnetite). Our results demonstrate that the detection of cells is possible at the micrometric level on the investigated minerals through the intrinsic fluorescence of their constituting macromolecules (aromatic amino and nucleic acids, coenzymes). This allows us to distinguish biomorph inorganic phases from cells. This easily implemented technique permits an exploration of colonized rock samples. In addition, the range of spectrometric techniques available on a scanning electron microscope can provide additional information on the nature and chemistry of the associated mineral phases, which would lead to a simultaneous characterization of cells, their microhabitats, and a better understanding of their potential relationships.  相似文献

Juno, the second mission in the NASA New Frontiers Program, will both be a polar Jovian orbiter, and use solar arrays for power, moving away from previous use of radioisotope power systems (RPSs) in spite of the weak solar light reaching Jupiter. The power generation at Jupiter is critical, and a conductive tether could be an alternative source of power. A current-carrying tether orbiting in a magnetized ionosphere/plasmasphere will radiate waves. A magnitude of interest for both power generation and signal emission is the wave impedance. Jupiter has the strongest magnetic field in the Solar Planetary System and its plasma density is low everywhere. This leads to an electron plasma frequency smaller than the electron cyclotron frequency, and a high Alfven velocity. Unlike the low Earth orbit (LEO) case, the electron skin depth and the characteristic size of plasma contactors affect the Alfven impedance.  相似文献

利用超声波的生物医学效应可强化冻干保护剂海藻糖对细胞膜的渗透特性,对于不同的生物材料,超声波的强度、频率等对细胞的影响程度不同。本文拟提供一种超声波在生物样品中传播的强度估算方法。针对超声波强化海藻糖载入血小板的实验,建立了血小板悬液中超声波的传播模型,并分析得到符合实验要求的各计算参数及边界条件,通过COMSOL Multiphysics软件计算,评估了超声波在样品中的强度分布。计算结果为实验中超声波强度的选择及超声探头与样品等的布置提供了有效的理论指导。同时,为超声波在生物样品中的传播提供了一种新的强度估算方法。  相似文献

Interstellar dust was first identified by the dust sensor onboard Ulysses after the Jupiter flyby in February 1992. These findings were confirmed by the Galileo experiment on its outbound orbit from Earth to Jupiter. Although modeling results show that interstellar dust is also present at the Earth orbit, a direct identification of interstellar grains from geometrical arguments is only possible outside of 2.5 AU. The flux of interstellar dust with masses greater than 6 · 10–14 g is about 1 · 10–4 m –2 s –1 at ecliptic latitudes and at heliocentric distances greater than 1AU. The mean mass of the interstellar particles is 3 · 10–13 g. The flux arrives from a direction which is compatible with the influx direction of the interstellar neutral Helium of 252° longitude and 5.2° latitude but it may deviate from this direction by 15 – 20°.  相似文献

Simultaneously received transmission from NNSS satellites by two or more Doppler receivers can be processed as interferometric observables. The receivers are physically unconnected and the coherence of the phase information recordings (Doppler counts) is ensured by highly stable independent local oscillators similarly as in VLBI. The purpose of the interferometric processing is to obtain high precision geodetic distance determinations using NNSS Doppler data.  相似文献

The general significance of streamers of the solar corona is discussed in the frame of our knowledge of the solar wind phenomenon and the large-scale solar magnetic structure. Thermodynamical and geometric parameters of streamers observed and measured at total solar eclipses are reviewed. Both the low part (in the form of a helmet with a cusp) and the external part (in the form of a stalk extended at many solar radii) are considered. The modelling of streamers starts with the analysis of effects produced by the solar wind flow on a magnetic structure. Facts and arguments are presented in favor of a model with a current sheet and reconnection processes going on along the axis of the streamer, especially in the non-collisional part of the radially extended streamer. Further development of the Pneuman and Kopp (1971) model is discussed, including difficulties occurring in the interpretation of a stationary solution. An empirical model satisfying observations is presented. Future researchs on streamers were discussed with emphasis on observations to be done with the space-borne coronagraphs on the SOHO spacecraft.  相似文献

Although there is no direct evidence yet for the existence of life on Mars, it is reasonable to conclude that the emergence of life on Earth, which appears to have been controlled by universal laws of physics and chemistry, may have been repeated elsewhere in the universe. Current observational data base on the motion of comets and asteroids is reviewed. Particular attention is paid to the absolute and relative abundances of different dynamical types of objects, and to the time intervals between their first and last observations. The latter quantity, ranging from two days to two milliennia for individual objects, is the dominant measure of the accuracy of the orbit determination. Distribution of the tracking times of comets (distinguished by dynamical age: new, long-period, Halley type, Jupiter family) and asteroids (distinguished by stability: Apollos, Amors, main-belt asteroids, outer librators, outer unstable objects) are reconstructed. The peculiar shapes of individual distributions can be explained by the complex mechanisms of discoveries, rediscoveries, orbit computations, follow-up observations and backward identifications. A comparison is also made with the dynamical data base on meteoroids, as regards the accuracy of their orbits.The cumulative tracking times (170000 yr for all 7600 objects with known orbits taken together) are compared with the lifetimes and occurrence rates of different events of evolutionary significance. Only in the case of short-period comets the evolution is rapid enough to render observable a variety of important changes, ranging from drastic transformations of orbits to disruption or total outgassing. For asteroids, only minor cratering collisions which do not result in detectable changes of their orbits are covered by the whole observational history.Expected future improvements of observing and data-handling techniques are outlined. With these in view, the size and character of the data to become available by the end of this century are predicted. Dynamical types of objects, which are currently known in only one or a few examples, are pointed out. Apparently, other types of rare occurrence and short survival time still escape detection. A list of easiest targets of short-duration spacecraft missions is presented.The deficiencies of current statistics due to observational selection; the broad variety of regimes of motion occupied by widely differing proportional representations of the known objects; and demands for suitable targets of future spacecraft missions make it highly desirable to maintain the present rapid rate of augmentation of the data base for the years to come.Recent passages of two comets — 1983d IRAS-Araki-Alcock and 1983e Sugano-Saigusa-Fujikawa — near the Earth indicate that both the collision rate given in Table VIII and the contribution of long-period comets to it may have been slightly underestimated. The appropriate adjustment of the log-t values by less than — 0.10 has no effect of the general conclusions, however.The success of the orbiting observatory IRAS in detecting faint interplanetary objects lends better promises for the increase of the number of known objects (in particular comets) than anticipated in Section 6 and estimated in Table IX. Obviously, the outcome will largely depend on the implementation, time coverage and degree of exploitation of similar projects in the near future.  相似文献
