Scheduling a divisible load on a heterogeneous single-level tree network with processors having finite-size buffers is addressed. We first present the closed-form solutions for the case when the available buffer size at each site is assumed to be infinite. Then we analyze the case when these buffer sizes are of finite size. For the first time in the domain of DLT (divisible load theory) literature, the problem of scheduling with finite-size buffers is addressed. For this case, we present a novel algorithm, referred to as incremental balancing strategy, to obtain an optimal load distribution. Algorithm IBS adopts a strategy to feed the divisible load in a step-by-step incremental balancing fashion by taking advantage of the available closed-form solutions of the optimal scheduling for the case without buffer size constraints. Based on the rigorous mathematical analysis, a number of interesting and useful properties exhibited by the algorithm are proven. We present a very useful discussion on the implications of this problem on the effect of sequencing discussed in the literature. Also, the impact of Rule A, a rule that obtains a reduced optimal network to achieve optimal processing time by eliminating a redundant set of processor-link pairs, is also discussed. The STEREO/Waves experiment is dedicated to the study of inner heliosphere radio emissions. This experiment is composed of a set of two identical receivers placed on each of the two STEREO spacecraft. The STEREO/Waves receivers have instantaneous Goniopolarimetric (GP) capabilities (also referred to as direction-finding capabilities). This means that it is possible to retrieve the direction of arrival of an incoming electromagnetic radio wave, its flux and its polarization. We review the state of the art of GP-capable radio receivers and available GP techniques. We then present the GP capabilities of the STEREO/Waves experiment. We finally show some GP results on solar Type III radio bursts, using data recorded with the Cassini/RPWS/HFR, which are very similar to the STEREO/Waves data.  相似文献

In order to obtain crustal deformations of higher spatial resolution, existing GPS networks must be densified. This densification can be carried out using single-frequency receivers at moderate costs. However, ionospheric delay handling is required in the data processing. We adapt the Satellite-specific Epoch-differenced Ionospheric Delay model (SEID) for GPS networks with mixed single- and dual-frequency receivers. The SEID model is modified to utilize the observations from the three nearest dual-frequency reference stations in order to avoid contaminations from more remote stations. As data of only three stations are used, an efficient missing data constructing approach with polynomial fitting is implemented to minimize data losses. Data from large scale reference networks extended with single-frequency receivers can now be processed, based on the adapted SEID model. A new data processing scheme is developed in order to make use of existing GPS data processing software packages without any modifications. This processing scheme is evaluated using a sub-network of the German SAPOS network. The results verify that the new scheme provides an efficient way to densify existing GPS networks with single-frequency receivers.  相似文献

The principal objective of this study is to analyze structures of Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) using a wavelet technique. We use data measured with the SOHO/LASCO coronographs C2–C3, EIT and STEREO COR1A–B, COR2A–B. We have found that different structures show up in a CME at different spatial scales of wavelets. We also study the orientation of the most intense flux and find the orientation of the structures in the CME.  相似文献

In the above-titled paper (see ibid., vol.26, no.4, July 1990), the authors presented a simple approach to suppressing Barker code compression sidelobes. It consists of approximating an inverse filter in a finite series of terms with unknown coefficients. The coefficients are then determined by a simplex solution to an appropriate linear programming problem. The commenter indicates the results are correct, but the steps taken contain two errors which, however, compensate for each other. The corrections are given by the authors in their reply.<>  相似文献

A Controllable and Observable Protein Crystallization Facility (ACOP) was developed in 1999 for space experiment in the Get Away Special canister of Space Shuttle. To regulate the vapor diffusion rate, in a crystallization chamber, five cells each containing precipitant solution of different concentrations, exposed to one protein cell in turn. Five layers of chambers were overlapped coaxially. The crystallization process was observed and recorded by digital cameras. Structure of facility and result of image sequence were given.  相似文献

We propose that the appropriate instability to trigger a substorm is a tailward meander (in the equatorial plane) of the strong current filament that develops during the growth phase. From this single assumption follows the entire sequence of events for a substorm. The main particle acceleration mechanism in the plasma sheet is curvature drift with a dawn-dusk electric field, leading to the production of auroral arcs. Eventually the curvature becomes so high that the ions cannot negotiate the sharp turn at the field-reversal region, locally, at a certain time. The particle motion becomes chaotic, causing a local outward meander of the cross-tail current. An induction electric field is produced by Lenz's law, E ind=–A/t. An outward meander with B z>0 will cause E×B flow everywhere out from the disturbance; this reaction is a macroscopic instability which we designate the electromotive instability. The response of the plasma is through charge separation and a scalar potential, E es=–. Both types of electric fields have components parallel to B in a realistic magnetic field. For MHD theory to hold the net E must be small; this usually seems to happen (because MHD often does hold), but not always. Part of the response is the formation of field-aligned currents producing the well-known substorm current diversion. This is a direct result of a strong E ind (the cause) needed to overcome the mirror force of the current carriers; this enables charge separation to produce an opposing electrostatic field E es (the effect). Satellite data confirm the reality of a strong E in the plasma sheet by counter-streaming of electrons and ions, and by the inverse ion time dispersion, up to several 100 keV. The electron precipitation is associated with the westward traveling surge (WTS) and the ion with omega () bands, respectively. However, with zero curl, E es cannot modify the emf =Edl=–dM/dt of the inductive electric field E ind (a property of vector fields); the charge separation that produces a reduction of E must enhance the transverse component E . The new plasma flow becomes a switch for access to the free energy of the stressed magnetotail. On the tailward side the dusk-dawn electric field with EJ<0 will cause tailward motion of the plasma and a plasmoid may be created; it will move in the direction of least magnetic pressure, tailward. On the earthward side the enhanced dawn-dusk induction electric field with EJ>0 will cause injection into the inner plasma sheet, repeatedly observed at moderate energies of 1–50 keV. This same electric field near the emerging X-line will accelerate particles non-adiabatically to moderate energies. With high magnetic moments in a weak magnetic field, electrons (ions) can benefit from gradient and curvature drift to attain high energies (by the ratio of the magnetic field magnitude) in seconds (minutes).  相似文献

The evidence that living organisms were already extant on the earth almost 4 Gyr ago and that early bombardment by comets and asteroids created a hostile environment up to about this time has revived the question of how it was possible for prebiotic chemical evolution to have provided the necessary ingredients for life to have developed in the short intervening time. The actual bracketed available temporal space is no more than 0.5 Gyr and probably much less. Was this sufficient time for an earth-based source of the first simple organic precursor molecules to have led to the level of the prokaryotic cell? If not, then the difficulty would be resolved if the ancient earth was impregnated by organic molecular seed from outer space. Curiously, it seems that the most likely source of such seeds was the same a one of the sources of the hostile enviroment, namely the comets which bombarded the earth. With the knowledge of comets gained by the space missions it has become clear that a very large fraction of the chemical composition of comet nuclei consists of quite complex organic molecules. Furthermore it has been demonstrated that comets consist of very fluffy aggregates of interstellar dust whose chemistry derives from photoprocessing of simple ice mixtures in space. Thus, the ultimate source of organics in comets comes from the chemical evolution of interstellar dust. An important and critical justification for assuming that interstellar dust is the ultimate source of prebiotic molecular insertion on the earth is the proof that comets are extremely fluffy aggregates, which have the possibility of breaking up into finely divided fragments when the comet impacts the earth's atmosphere. In the following we will summarize the properties of interstellar dust and the chemical and morphological structure of comets indicated by the most recent interpretations of comet observations. It will be shown that the suitable condition for comets having provided abundant prebiotic molecules as well as the water in which they could have further evolved are consistent with theories of the early earth environment.  相似文献

The M4.0/SF flare on 17 March 2002 is a good example of the early observations with RHESSI. We presenthard X-ray images, light curves and energy spectra of individual hard X-ray sources, the spatial relationship between the hard X-ray sources and the H emission regions, and comparisons of light curves observed by RHESSI and GOES. We found that the picture exhibited by RHESSI is consistent with the general cartoon of a solar flare. In particular, we showed that the hard X-ray image spectra could be explained by a power-law electron beam with a lower energy cutoff Ec. The derived Ec could be as high as 40 keV, larger than the usually value of 20 keV.  相似文献
