The Accelerometer Experiment (ACC) onboard Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) measured 1600 density profiles in the upper atmosphere of Mars during aerobraking. These measurements reveal large-scale and small-scale structure in the thermosphere of Mars. Here, the measurements of mass density for 115 orbits (#P0670–P0789) from November 1 to 30, 1998, under spring equinox and medium solar activity conditions (average F10.7 ∼ 137) during phase 2 of the aerobraking in the thermosphere of Mars at different altitudes and longitudes are presented for northern mid-latitude (17–42°N) in the dayside atmosphere using ACC onboard MGS. From these mass densities, the neutral densities of different gases are derived from their mixing ratios. Using these neutral densities, the longitudinal distribution of photoionization rates and photoelectron impact ionization rates are calculated at wavelength range 1–102.57 nm due to EUV and soft X-ray radiation under photochemical controlled region using Analytical Yield Spectrum approach (AYS). These conditions are appropriate for MGS Phase 2 aerobraking period from which the accelerometer data is used. Under the photochemical equilibrium condition, the electron density near the peak varies as the square root of the total peak ionization rate. Using this fact, an attempt is being made to estimate the mean primary and secondary peak electron density by averaging the longitudinal variations of total peak ionization rates in the northern mid-latitude (17–42°N) ionosphere of Mars, as there is no radio science measurement at this latitude region by MGS. 相似文献

Early and late effects of accelerated heavy ions (HZE) on the embryonic tissue of Arabidopsis thaliana seeds were investigated seeing that initial cells of the plant eumeristems resemble the original cells of animal and human tissues with continuous cell proliferation. The endpoints measured were lethality and tumorization in the M1-generation for early effects and embryonic lethality in the M2-generation for late effects. The biological endpoints are plotted as functions of the physical parameters of the irradiation i.e. ion fluence (p/cm2), dose (Gray), charge Z and linear energy transfer (LET). The results presented contribute to the estimation of the principles of biological HZE effects and thus may help to develop a unified theory which could explain the whole sequence from physical and chemical reactions to biological responses connected with heavy ion radiation. Additionally, the data of this paper may be used for the discussion of the quality factor for heavy ion irradiation needed for space missions and for HZE-application in radio-therapy by use of accelerators (UNILAC, (SIS/ESR), BEVALAC). 相似文献

We present evidence that the soft X-ray distribution observed with the ROSAT PSPC instrument is not adequately explained by the standard Local Hot Bubble model (/1/). We discuss the X-ray absorbing cloud LVC 88 + 36 − 2 embedded in the hot plasma of the Local Hot Bubble, the X-ray shadow of the Draco nebula and other clouds inside and outside the galactic disk, and the X-ray emission associated with halo type objects like the HVC's M I and M II. They populate the distance range from about 60 pc to more than a few kpc and imply the presence of X-ray emitting plasma between the sun and and the outer galactic halo. These observations are consistent with a pervasive X-ray emitting plasma in which neutral clouds are embedded. However, the volume filling factor of this plasma is not known. A model which adequately describes the observed features has been developed and published by Hirth et al. (/28/).
For the first time in the literature we present results of a correlation analysis of X-ray shadows and H I or IR images of a molecular cloud. This is a new technique for the determination of the total column density of hydrogen nuclei for molecular clouds. 相似文献

The main objective of the Mutual Impedance Probe (MIP), part of the Rosetta Plasma Consortium (RPC), is to measure the electron
density and temperature of Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko’s coma, in particular inside the contact surface. Furthermore,
MIP will determine the bulk velocity of the ionised outflowing atmosphere, define the spectral distribution of natural plasma
waves, and monitor dust and gas activities around the nucleus. The MIP instrumentation consists of an electronics board for
signal processing in the 7 kHz to 3.5 MHz range and a sensor unit of two receiving and two transmitting electrodes mounted
on a 1-m long bar. In addition, the Langmuir probe of the RPC/LAP instrument that is at about 4 m from the MIP sensor can

Gravitropism of plant organs such as roots, stems and coleoptiles can be separated into four distinct phases: 1. perception (gravity sensing), 2. transduction of a signal into the target region and 3. the response (differential growth). This last reaction is followed by a straightening of the curved organ (4.). The perception of the gravitropic stimulus upon horizontal positioning of the organ (1.) occurs via amyloplasts that sediment within the statocytes. This conclusion is supported by our finding that submerged rice coleoptiles that lack sedimentable amyloplasts show no graviresponse. The mode of signal transduction (2.) from the statocytes to the peripheral cell layers is still unknown. Differential growth (3.) consists of a cessation of cell expansion on the upper side and an enhancement of elongation on the lower side of the organ. Based on the facts that the sturdy outer epidermal wall (OEW) constitutes the growth-controlling structure of the coleoptile and that growth-related osmiophilic particles accumulate on the upper OEW, it is concluded that the differential incorporation of wall material (presumably glycoproteins) is causally involved. During gravitropic bending, electron-dense particles ('wall-loosening capacity') accumulate on the growth-inhibited upper OEW. It is proposed that the autotropic straightening response, which is in part due to an acceleration of cell elongation on the curved upper side, may be attributable to an incorporation of the accumulated particles ('release of wall-loosening capacity'). This novel mechanism of autotropic re-bending and its implications for the Cholodny-Went hypothesis are discussed. 相似文献

The evolution of a dispersion under the action of temperature gradients and solidification was followed optically in a transparent molten salt (CsCl) with inclusions of Pb-droplets and gas bubbles. This system is believed to model a solidifying metallic alloy. Rejection of Pb-particles by the solidification front was observed, while large gas bubbles were incorporated. Thermocapillary convection at the gas bubbles considerably distorted the temperature field and even caused local remelting. This paper considers a binary frequency-shift-keying (FSK) communication system with an adaptive receiver. Partially coherent detection is accomplished exploiting phase and bit synchronization directly extracted from the information-bearing waveform. The optimum (maximum a posteriori probability criterion) estimators of the relevant channel parameters are found along with some suboptimum realizations. A Japanese magnetospheric satellite Jikiken (EXOS-B) was used to observe Siple transmissions and VLF emissions triggered by the Siple signals. Energetic particle fluxes were also observed at the same time. The first experiments were made during July, August and September in 1979 and the second experiments were made during December in 1979 and January in 1980. Dynamics of the satellite angular momenta is modeled by ordinary differential equations with additive white noise. A feedback controller er is desired to maintain tolerable satellite momenta and to economize ze the fuel consumption. The stochastic optimal control problem is transformed into an equivalent deterministic optimization problem involving a parabolic partial differential equation. Necessary optimality y conditions are used to develop a computation algorithm.
