The spatial–temporal variations in aurora and VLF emissions during an weak intensification in the auroral zone morning sector on December 30, 2011, have been analyzed. The event was accompanied by a negative bay (~70 nT) in the X component of the magnetic field at ground stations in northern Scandinavia. At the recovery phase of this bay, the precipitation zone moved and VLF emission frequency simultaneously increased over ten minutes, which may indicate that waves and precipitating electrons had a common source. VLF noise bursts in the 600–1000 Hz band with a characteristic modulation scale of ~10 s and the corresponding aurora intensifications localized in the ~100 km region were observed during the following ten minutes, which also confirms that recorded waves are related to electron precipitation. This correspondence of the pulsating aurora periods and VLF noise modulation has been revealed for the first time. The role of VLF wave generation processes during the cyclotron interaction with electrons in the magnetosphere and the propagation of these waves from the magnetosphere to the observation point are discussed.  相似文献

Interplanetary outflows from coronal mass ejections (ICMEs) are structures shaped by their magnetic fields. Sometimes these fields are highly ordered and reflect properties of the solar magnetic field. Field lines emerging in CMEs are presumably connected to the Sun at both ends, but about half lose their connection at one end by the time they are observed in ICMEs. All must eventually lose one connection in order to prevent a build-up of flux in the heliosphere; but since little change is observed between 1 AU and 5 AU, this process may take months to years to complete. As ICMEs propagate out into the heliosphere, they kinematically elongate in angular extent, expand from higher pressure within, distort owing to inhomogeneous solar wind structure, and can compress the ambient solar wind, depending upon their relative speed. Their magnetic fields may reconnect with solar wind fields or those of other ICMEs with which they interact, creating complicated signatures in spacecraft data.  相似文献

This paper reports the ionospheric anomalies observed during strong local earthquakes (M?5.0) which occurred mostly in and around Uzbekistan in seismically active zones, during years 2006 to 2009 within approximately 1000 km distance from the observing GPS stations located in Tashkent and Kitab, Uzbekistan. The solar and geomagnetic conditions were quiet during occurrence of the selected strong earthquakes. We produce Total Electron Content (TEC) time series over both sites and apply them to detect anomalous TEC signals preceding or accompanying the local earthquakes. The results show anomalous increase or decrease of TEC before or during the earthquakes. In general the anomalies occurred 1–7 days before the earthquakes as ionospheric electromagnetic precursors. To identify the anomalous values of TEC we calculated differential TEC (dTEC). dTEC is obtained by subtracting monthly averaged diurnal vTEC from the values of observed vTEC at each epoch. This procedure removes normal diurnal variations of vTEC. The present results are in good agreement with the previous observations on ionospheric earthquake precursors reported by various researchers.  相似文献

The VEGA-1 and VEGA-2 spacecraft made their closest approach to Comet Halley on 6 and 9 March, respectively. In this paper those results of the onboard imaging experiment which were obtained around closest approach are discussed. The nucleus of the comet was clearly identifiable as an irregularly shaped object, with overall dimensions of (16±1)×(8±1)×(8±1) km. The nucleus rotates in the prograde sense about an axis nearly perpendicular to the orbital plane with a period of 53±2 hours. Its albedo is only 0.04±0.020.01 Many of the jet features observed during the second fly-by have been spatially reconstructed. Their sources form a quasi-linear structure on the surface. The dust above the surface is shown to be generally optically thin with the exception of certain specific dust jets. Brightness features on the surface are clearly seen. Correlating our data with other measurements, we conclude that the dirty snow-ball model will probably need to be revised.  相似文献

Multi-Target Tracking in Clutter without Measurement Assignment   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
When tracking targets using radars and sonars, the number of targets and the origin of data is uncertain. Data may be false measurements or clutter, or they may be detections from an unknown number of targets whose possible trajectories and detection processes can only be described in a statistical manner. Optimal all-neighbor multi-target tracking (MTT) in clutter enumerates all possible joint measurement-to-track assignments and calculates the a posteriori probabilities of each of these joint assignments. The numerical complexity of this process is combinatorial in the number of tracks and the number of measurements. One of the key differences between most MTT algorithms is the manner in which they reduce the computational complexity of the joint measurement-to-track assignment process. We propose an alternative approach, using a form of soft assignment, that enables us to bypass this step entirely. Specifically, our approach treats possible detections of targets followed by other tracks as additional clutter measurements. It starts by approximating the a~priori probabilities of measurement origin. These probabilities are then used to modify the clutter spatial density at the location of the measurements. A suitable single target tracking (STT) filter then uses the modified clutter intensity for updating the track state. In effect, the STT filter is transformed into an MTT filter with a numerical complexity that is linear in the number of tracks and the number of measurements. Simulations show the effectiveness of this approach in a number of different multi-target scenarios.  相似文献

Spatial perspective taking is the ability to reason about spatial relations relative to another’s viewpoint. Here, we propose a mechanistic hypothesis that relates mental representations of one’s viewpoint to the transformations used for spatial perspective taking. We test this hypothesis using a novel behavioral paradigm that assays patterns of response time and variation in those patterns across people. The results support the hypothesis that people maintain a schematic representation of the space around their body, update that representation to take another’s perspective, and thereby to reason about the space around their body. This is a powerful computational mechanism that can support imitation, coordination of behavior, and observational learning.  相似文献

The International Satellite Cloud Climatology Project (ISCCP) will provide a uniform global climatology of satellite-measured radiances and derive a climatology of cloud radiative properties from these radiances. For this purpose, a pilot study of cloud analysis algorithms was initiated to define a state-of-the-art algorithm for ISCCP. This study compared the results of applying the nine different algorithms to the same satellite radiance data. The comparison allowed for a sharper understanding of the process of detecting clouds and shows that all algorithms can be improved by better information about clear sky radiance values (essentially equivalent to surface property information) and by better understanding of cloud size distribution variations. The dependence of all methods on cloud size distribution led to selection of an advanced bispectral threshold technique for ISCCP because this method is currently better understood and more developed. Further research on cloud algorithms is clearly suggested by these results.  相似文献
