We review the X- and gamma-ray observations of Cygnus X-1 and their theoretical interpretations, with emphasis on new developments since the mid-1970's. The overall data base at present is most consistent with the inverse Compton model by hot thermal electrons of Te 109 K, for the hard X-ray luminosity (10–200 keV). This review summarizes some of the recent results obtained by ground-based detectors recording cosmic-ray intensity at high energies (>1 GeV) for almost five decades. The long-term changes observed in the isotropic and anisotropic components of cosmic-ray intensity are presented. It is noted in particular that significant changes occurred in the characteristics of cosmic-ray modulation after the 1969–70 period. Most of these are definitively related to the reversal of the solar poloidal field; their characteristics are described with a view to relate these with the heliospheric configuration. Anomalies in the variational characteristics of both isotropic and anisotropic parts of cosmic ray intensity, noticed particularly during the period of very high speed solar wind streams, are discussed in detail. Phenomena with periodicities of 11 and 22 years occur simultaneously; their relative importance is derived and related to interplanetary variables. The equations of motion of a momentum biased spacecraft are derived in a general form. The spacecraft is assumed to be orbiting in a near-elliptical orbit. An aerodynamic torque model which accounts for the atmospheric superrotation is assumed. The equilibrium attitude angles are obtained in terms of modified Bessel functions. Analytic expressions for the long-term motion of the momentum biased axis are derived for special cases. The analysis is applicable to the Magsat mission. 相似文献
The current state of knowledge concerning Birkeland currents (j∥) and parallel electric field (E∥) is briefly reviewed. Four types of j∥ are discussed-the primary ‘region 1’ sheets, the ‘region 2’ sheets which parallel them and which seem to close in the partial ring current, the cusp currents which appear to correlate with interplanetary By, and the ‘Harang filament’. The energy required by E∥ and by the associated particle acceleration processes seems to be derived from j∥. Much of the evidence for e∥ comes from particles, from ‘inverted V’ spectra, rising ion beams and expanded loss cones, while ‘conies’ may signify acceleration by Electrostatic Ion Cyclotron (EIC) waves, associated with beams accelerated by E∥. Different theoretical studies predict for E∥ a smooth, disordered or abrupt structure, and evidence for all 3 types can be deduced from S3-3 electric field probe observations.
The subject of this paper involves tracking the present position of a maneuvering aircraft as well as predicting its future position. A tracking filter is developed that uses aircraft attitude angles (yaw, pitch, roll) in addition to the usual radar measurements. Computer simulation of tracker performance when tracking violently maneuvering aircraft indicates that a dramatic improvement is obtained by using attitude information. The approach taken is to develop a 12-or 15-state extended Kalman filter that models both translational and rotational degrees of freedom. By measuring and estimating attitude it is possible to approximately determine the magnitude and direction of the force system acting on the vehicle and therefore determine vehicle linear acceleration. Knowledge of acceleration is then used to improve the estimate of present and future position of the vehicle being tracked. Simulation of a T-38 aircraft performing a 5 g turn indicates that the new tracker produces maximum trajectory prediction errors that are 36 percent of the errors experienced by more conventional trackers. 相似文献
A new methodology to scan automated radar terminal system (ARTS-III) data for aircraft tracks exhibiting probable mode-C encoder/transponder faults is described. The tracks of more than 8000 climbing or descending aircraft, recorded at the Seattle-Tacoma terminal area, were analyzed using this method. Based on this sample, the probability of the previously recognized "stuck C-bit" error is estimated to be 0.44 percent (0.31-0.61 percent, 95 percent confidence). In addition, a new, more subtle error, here termed the "deficient response," was discovered which is estimated to occur with a probability of 0.77 percent (0.59-0.98 percent, 95 percent confidence). Subsequent tests found this new error to have much less impact on traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS) performance than does the stuck C-bit error. 相似文献
Current information on the neutral atmosphere of Jupiter is reviewed, with approximately equal emphasis on composition and thermal structure on the one hand, and markings and dynamics on the other. Studies based on Pioneer 10 and 11 data are used to refine the atmospheric model. Data on the interior are reviewed for the information they provide on the deep atmosphere.
