Detailed derivation of the transfer function for a multigimbal, elastically supported, tuned gyro is presented and comparison made between its characteristics and those of a classical two-axis, free-rotor gyro. In vehicular and aircraft generating systems, the voltage transient suppressor requirements for protection of utilization loads are generally based on measured values of valtage transients and the generating system impedance. This paper presents an approximate method for determining the suppressor requirements that disregards the generating system impedance. When a voltage surge due to removal of load is suppressed, the greater portion of the removed load current is transferred to the shunt-type suppressor. The performance of angle of arrival estimates using an array in the presence of interfering signals is evaluated using the Cramer-Rao bound. To do this, a model for interference is developed which presents the interference as narrowband, temporally white, but spatially correlated, noise. The bound is evaluated and it is shown to depend upon the ambiguity function of the array and spatial correlation matrix of the noise plus interference. Previous attempts to identify aircraft stability and control derivatives from flight test data, using three-degrees-of-freedom (3-DOF) longitudinal or lateral-directional perturbation equation-of-motion models, suffer from the disadvantage that the coupling between the longitudinal and lateral-directional dynamics has been ignored. In this paper, the identification of aircraft stability parameters is accomplished using a more accurate 6-DOF model which includes this coupling. Hierarchical system identification theory is used to reduce the computational effort involved. The 6-DOF system of equations is first decomposed into two 3-DOF subsystems, one for the longitudinal dynamics and the other for the lateral-directional dynamics. The two subsystem parameter identification processes are then coordinated in such a way that the overall system parameter identification problem is solved. Analysis of four-frequency satellite Doppler data has allowed the separation and measurement of frequency-dependent ionospheric contributions to the Doppler shift, providing information useful in the study of errors incurred when tracking radio signals through the ionosphere. These refraction errors affect the accuracy of navigational position fixes obtained by Doppler satellite tracking systems. The human centrifuge is used to train pilots and astronauts for flights where they are subject to large accelerations. This paper deals with the problems of simulating such linear accelerations with a rotating device and presents suitable means of reducing undesirable simulation error.
