In previous studies we used a ground based model to investigate the cellular responses to microgravity by exposing micromass cultures of embryonic limb cells to simulated weightlessness on a clinostat. Cultures set up in T-flasks and rotated at 30 rpm showed that clinostatted cultures had less chondrocyte differentiation than stationary or rotation controls, as assessed by number of nodules/culture stained with cartilage specific Alcian blue. In the current study, nodule size and shape of these nodules was assessed by interactive measurement of area, perimeter, circularity, and equivalent diameters, using the Optimas imaging software. Results show no significant difference in any of the measurements, indicating that clinorotation has no effect on expansion of the nodules either by differentiation of cells within the nodule, or by recruitment of cells into the nodule. The reduction in number of nodules without an alteration in size and shape indicates that the effect of simulated microgravity is to reduce the cell interactions required for the initial condensation of cells into a nodule, probably by interference with cell adhesion molecules. 相似文献

Satellite and rocket measurements of auroral electrons (which have been made since Brown's (1966) and Pfister's (1967) papers have appeared) are reviewed, and the salient characteristics of auroral electrons which emerge from all types of measurements are summarized. Effects of the atmosphere on the energy distribution of electron fluxes are discussed. Ionization rates associated with typical fluxes are derived. Observable effects produced in the atmosphere and the fate of auroral electrons are briefly described.This paper does not discuss the role of auroral protons (or particles). There is evidence for temperature fluctuations in Planetary Nebulae and in some Galactic H II regions. If such fluctuations occur in the low metallicity, extragalactic H II regions used to probe the primordial helium abundance, the derived 4He mass fraction, YP, could be systematically different from the true primordial value. Although this effect could be large, there are no data which allow us to estimate the size of the temperature fluctuations for the extragalactic H II regions. Therefore, we have explored this effect via Monte Carlo simulations of the data in which the abundances derived from a fiducial data set are modified by T chosen from a distribution with 0 T Tmax where Tmax is varied from 500 K to 4000 K. 相似文献

The planetary radio astronomy experiment will measure radio spectra of planetary emissions in the range 1.2 kHz to 40.5 MHz. These emissions result from wave-particle-plasma interactions in the magnetospheres and ionospheres of the planets. At Jupiter, they are strongly modulated by the Galilean satellite Io.As the spacecraft leave the Earth's vicinity, we will observe terrestrial kilometric radiation, and for the first time, determine its polarization (RH and LH power separately). At the giant planets, the source of radio emission at low frequencies is not understood, but will be defined through comparison of the radio emission data with other particles and fields experiments aboard Voyager, as well as with optical data. Since, for Jupiter, as for the Earth, the radio data quite probably relate to particle precipitation, and to magnetic field strength and orientation in the polar ionosphere, we hope to be able to elucidate some characteristics of Jupiter auroras.Together with the plasma wave experiment, and possibly several optical experiments, our data can demonstrate the existence of lightning on the giant planets and on the satellite Titan, should it exist. Finally, the Voyager missions occur near maximum of the sunspot cycle. Solar outburst types can be identified through the radio measurements; when the spacecraft are on the opposite side of the Sun from the Earth we can identify solar flare-related events otherwise invisible on the Earth. 相似文献

This paper develops synthesis techniques for a particular type of single-sideband sinusoidal carrier which is phase modulated by a subcarrier. Mathematical expressions for signal efficiency, sensitivity of design to parameter variation, and ratio of peak to average power are derived and incorporated in a computer program. Given the desired power ratios for modulated signal components, the program solves for the corresponding modulation parameters and evaluates signal efficiency, design sensitivity, and peak to average power ratio. An extended Kalman filter is used to process line-of-sight measurements to stars and known landmarks providing a statistical indication of performance in estimating spacecraft attitude, orbital ephemeris, and the bias drift of a set of three strapdown gyros. The landmark measurements were assumed to have been taken from the imagery of an Earth-observing multispectral scanner. It is shown that filtering of these noisy measurements results in highly accurate estimates of the above parameters. Results are given showing the sensitivity of performance to various system parameters such as star tracker accuracy, errors in the knowledge of landmark position, and number of stars and landmarks processed. 相似文献

The Aerospace Corporation energetic electron-proton spectrometer operating on Applications Technology Satellite-6 (ATS-6) detects energetic electrons in four channels between 140 keV and greater than 32 MeV, and measures energetic protons in five energy channels between 2.3 and 80 MeV and energetic alpha particles in three channels between 9.4 and 94 MeV. After more than a year of operation in orbit, the experiment continues to return excellent data on the behavior of energetic magnetospheric electrons as well as information regarding the fluxes of solar protons and alpha particles. 相似文献
