As Viking Landers did not measure rock compositions, Pathfinder (PF) data are the first in this respect. This review gives no proof yet whether the PF rocks are igneous or sedimentary, but for petrogenetic reasons they could be igneous. We suggest a model in which Mars is covered by about 50% basaltic and 50% andesitic igneous rocks. The soils are a mixture of the two with addition of Mg-sulfate and -chloride plus iron compounds possibly derived from the hematite deposits. 相似文献

Image exploitation technology approaches have generally focused on the detection and spatial analysis of stationary groups of objects on the ground using various sensors. While spatial arrangement is clearly necessary in analyzing military formations, it is usually not sufficient. Typically the arrangement must be examined within some context in order to interpret a pattern of deployment. For moving objects the spatial arrangement of the group relative to the direction of motion is key to recognizing the formation. By examining ground moving target indicator (MTI) radar data over time, motion can be inferred and used to establish a context for interpreting the spatial arrangement of the data. New techniques that exploit the multitemporal nature of MTI data are described. The first is a space-time clustering technique that locates compact groups of objects that persist in time. The technique Is an application of Marr and Hildreth's edge detection methodology to the dual problem of region segmentation, or more accurately, volumetric segmentation of space-time. The second technique is based on the use of the Hough transform for recognizing moving formations such as columns, wedges, and lines abreast by analyzing the shape of clustered MTI detections (specifically the orientation of linear arrangements within the group) with respect to their direction of motion. An airborne system has been developed for charting shallow coastal and inland waters. The primary components of this system are an aerial survey camera, a profiling laser radar, an analytical stereo plotter, and a multisensor track recovery system (TRS). The TRS comprises a gimbaled inertial navigation system and a number of auxiliary sensors which acquire redundant position and attitude information. The sensor data are combined postmission using a U-D factorized Kalman filter and modified Bryson-Frazier smoother to compute accurate estimates of the orientation parameters of the survey camera at the times of film exposure. These parameters are used to position each overlapping pair of photographs on the analytical plotter to form a stereo image and corresonding analytical stereomodel from which water depth measurements are made. Flight trial results demonstrate that the TRS can achieve radial position and attitude accuracies which exceed 1 m and 2 arcmin root mean square (rms), respectively, and that this level of performance is sufficient to enable water depth measurements to be made to an accuracy of better than 0.65 m (rms). 相似文献

Studies evaluating the transport coefficients for energetic particles in interplanetary space are described in relation to particle data.In position space, the main mode of propagation is along field lines but perpendicular diffusion and drift motion is also possible. Diffusion coefficients based on interplanetary magnetic field data are either derived from quasi-linear, adiabatic theory or this theory corrected for finite scattering near 90° pitch angle or by numerical techniques. Relevant particle data includes solar proton event time profile and anisotropy measurements. In general, when Fokker-Planck transport equation solutions are fitted to particle data, the parallel diffusion coefficients obtained still appear rather larger than those given by theoretical estimates. Perpendicular diffusion is shown to be due to field line wandering and random drift motion effects. The importance of drift motion in cosmic ray modulation theory is mentioned.Although much emphasis is currently placed upon shock acceleration in CIR's, statistical acceleration in interplanetary space must be considered. Energetic particles may gain energy from longitudinal waves and cyclotron resonance interactions. Analytical and numerical estimates of the energy space diffusion coefficients are considered. The prime purpose of this paper is to describe the characteristics and application of high powered Zener diodes as transient suppressors for transients emanating in ground vehicle and aircraft power supplies. Information is presented on voltage transients as specified in MIL-STD-704 for aircraft and MIL-STD-1275(AT) for military ground vehicles and the ability of advanced high power Zener diodes in suppressing the levels of voltages specified therein. A study of the effect of observation errors on the best least squares estimate of satellite attitude based on two sets of direction measurements, where one set contains two independent measurements which are corrupted by zero-mean normally distributed additive errors, is summarized. Using Monte-Carlo techniques, the statistics of the estimated rotation of the satellite, from a known reference, were obtained. It was found that one of the parameterizations of the rotation, namely, the vector z, is best suited for estimation, since ?z is normally distributed with zero mean and its standard deviation is independent of the two direction measurements. 相似文献

This paper discusses the factors that control the flexibility of fabric space suit elements by examining a bending model of a pressurized fabric tube. The current state of knowledge of the chemistry, dynamics and energetics of the upper atmosphere and ionosphere of Venus is reviewed together with the nature of the solar wind-Venus interaction. Because of the weak, though perhaps not negligible, intrinsic magnetic field of Venus, the mutual effects between these regions are probably strong and unique in the solar system.
