Various observable properties of the Sun are compared with those of solar-type stars. It is concluded that the Sun, to a remarkable degree, is “solar-type”. As regards its particular mass and age, and probably its non-binarity, “anthropic” explanations may seem in place. The possible tendency for the Sun, as compared with similar stars, to be somewhat rich in iron relative to other elements needs further exploration. Two versions of a microwave feedback radiometer have been built and tested. One used an electromechanical feedback system; the other, an all-electronic system. The response of the servo loops proved to be fast enough and linear enough for almost any radiometer application. The rms noise fluctuation was the same as that of a Dicke radiometer. Navigation fixed from range differences to three stations and an additional piece of information are investigated. It is shown that if the additional information is the navigator altitude, or the range difference to a fourth station, the computation of the navigation fix is reduced to finding the roots of a quadratic. If the additional information is the range to another station, or that the navigator is on the Earth ellipsoid, the fix can be obtained by solving a quartic. By emphasizing the underlying geometric interpretations, these fixes and their simple solutions are made clear. The main purposes of experiment “Obstanovka” (“Environment” in Russian) consisting of several instruments are to measure a set of electromagnetic and plasma phenomena characterizing the space weather conditions, and to evaluate how such a big and highly energy consuming body as the International Space Station disturbs the surrounding plasma, and how the station itself is charged due to the operation of so many instruments, solar batteries, life supporting devices, etc. Two identical Langmuir electrostatic probes are included in the experiment “Obstanovka”. In this paper the Langmuir probes for “Obstanovka” experiment are described, including the choice of geometry (spherical or cylindrical), a more reliable method for the sweep voltage generation, an adaptive algorithm for the probe’s operation. It is generally accepted that the energy that drives coronal mass ejections (CMEs) is magnetic in origin. Sheared and twisted
coronal fields can store free magnetic energy which ultimately is released in the CME. We explore the possibility of the specific
magnetic configuration of a magnetic flux rope of field lines that twist about an axial field line. The flux rope model predicts
coronal observables, including heating along forward or inverse S-shaped, or sigmoid, topological surfaces. Therefore, studying
the observed evolution of such sigmoids prior to, during, and after the CME gives us crucial insight into the physics of coronal
storage and release of magnetic energy. In particular, we consider (1) soft-X-ray sigmoids, both transient and persistent;
(2) The formation of a current sheet and cusp-shaped post-flare loops below the CME; (3) Reappearance of sigmoids after CMEs;

Symmetrical broadening in the emission spectral lines is the ultimate observational effect of magnetic reconnection in the solar corona. Reconnection can create plasmas of very different temperatures and, hence, very different electrical conductivities in the corona. The electrodynamical effect of such a mass supply is considered. Electromagnetic expulsion force, different from Parker's well-known magnetic buoyancy force, can effectively balance gravity in prominences and generate fast vortex flows in the vicinity of fine threads inside prominences. SETI observational programs conducted over the last two decades, and most of those planned for the near future, have concentrated on searching for signals at microwave frequencies. Considerations of signal-to-noise ratio at the receiving end indicate that this is the correct approach if the broadcasting society is not concerned with directionality and transmits into a fairly large solid angle. However, if that society desires to transmit only a highly directional beacon, then it is not now possible, given our lack of knowledge of advanced space technology, to predict reliably whether microwave or infrared wavelengths are to be preferred in an optimum search program. Given the realities of current terrestrial technology, either the centimeter or millimeter domain is to be preferred to the infrared, independent of considerations of directionality. In any event, there does not appear to be any cosmically unique (“magic”) frequency at which to conduct SETI. 相似文献
