Wave resistance defect in a planar flow over periodic reliefs

The dependence of the wave resistance coefficients for planar periodic reliefs on the similarity parameters is investigated. It is proved that the wave resistance coefficients of the infinite reliefs and their finite analogs in the case of the whole wave numbers coincide, whereas in the case of the fractional wave numbers they differ.     

Analytical construction of interception trajectories in atmosphere

For an interception strategy of a removable target by a return space vehicle (RSV), we propose a structure of the control law by the aerodynamic efficiency that determines a chain of the three standard trajectories: nosing-up–free flight–nosing-down. A solution of the terminal problem is to determine numerical values of the control parameters that define moments to switch the RSV flight from one standard trajectory to another.     

Structural optimization of the neural network model for the gas turbine engine monitoring

The paper presents a technique of the neural network model reduction for the GTE operation mode monitoring during bench tests. The technique is based on the conversion of the neural network training task to the of multi-criteria optimization task.     

Dynamics of a discretely reinforced cylindrical shell under live load

This study proposes an approximate solution to a contact problem of dynamic deformation of a cyclically symmetrical discretely ring-stiffened cylindrical shell, the side surface of which is subjected to an evenly distributed inertia live load. The solution of the problem assumes the quasistatic mode of deformation of the structure. Several critical velocities of the live load have been found. A number of examples are presented.     

Multi-criteria analysis of high-altitude UAV concepts

In this paper, we consider an example of estimating and comparing the efficiency of different concepts for a high-altitude unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) under diversity of efficiency criteria.     

A method of calculation of vertical cutoff rigidity in the geomagnetic field

On the basis of generalization of the results of extensive trajectory calculations for trial charged particles moving in the geomagnetic field the method of calculation of effective vertical cutoff rigidity, taking into account the values of K _p -index and local time, is developed. The IGRF and Tsyganenko-89 models are used for the geomagnetic field. A comparison of the results of model simulations with the experimental data on penetration of charged particles into near-Earth space is made, and penetration functions for typical spacecraft orbits are calculated.     

Soybean cultivar selection for Bioregenerative Life Support Systems (BLSSs) – Hydroponic cultivation

Four soybean cultivars (‘Atlantic’, ‘Cresir’, ‘Pr91m10’ and ‘Regir’), selected through a theoretical procedure as suitable for cultivation in BLSS, were evaluated in terms of growth and production. Germination percentage and Mean Germination Time (MGT) were measured. Plants were cultivated in a growth chamber equipped with a recirculating hydroponic system (Nutrient Film Technique). Cultivation was performed under controlled environmental conditions (12 h photoperiod, light intensity 350 μmol m⁻² s⁻¹, temperature regime 26/20 °C light/dark, relative humidity 65–75%). Fertigation was performed with a standard Hoagland solution, modified for soybean specific requirements, and EC and pH were kept at 2.0 dS m⁻¹ and 5.5 respectively.
