Summary The observational features of the arc are fairly well established. At present, the thermal conduction model appears to explain the red arc features most consistently, but it must be noted that a soft electron flux would give very similar results. Ion temperature measurements in the vicinity of an arc, which should be forthcoming in the very near future, can establish conclusively whether transverse electric fields play any important role in the formation of the arcs. Accepting the assumption that the arcs are the result of energy flowing down from the plasmasphere, the major remaining question is: where does the energy come from and how does it get into the plasmasphere? An effective relay management solution applicable to multiple terminal ground-to-ground or ground-to-air line-of-sight communication environments is described. Algorithms are developed which enable terminals first to recognize the existence or availability of other terminals, and second, to self-organize a community of terminals rapidly into local nets without the need for a master control terminal. Computer simulation results show how a static or dynamically changing user geometry can be managed. A remarkable streaming beam-like particle event of 60 keV-5 MeV ions and of 38–315 keV electrons has been reported previously. This event has been associated with the passage of a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) over the Ulysses spacecraft on June 9–13, 1993. At this time, the spacecraft was located at 4.6 AU from the sun and at an heliolatitude of 32° south. It was proposed (Armstrong et al., 1994) that the particle injection source could have been of coronal origin. In this study, we analyse the solar activity during this period. We identify a region of solar radio noise storms in the corona and in particular, a flare on June 7 that presents all the required characteristics to produce the hot plasma beam observed in the interplanetary medium. 相似文献

The results of flow field numerical simulation on the typical wing-body prototype of the modern DLR-F4 airliner under sub- and transonic compressible air flow are presented. Using the DLR-F4 CAD model, the effect of the wingtip end plate area and of the cant angle of a typical Whitcomb winglet is studied. The dependencies of the model lift-to-drag ratio increment on the flat wingtip end plate relative area and on the cant angle of an airfoil Whitcomb winglet are obtained. The concept of an elliptic winglet with a variable cant angle that similar to the winglet used on Airbus A350 is studied. A technique is developed for solving the multi-parameter design optimization task for the Whitcomb winglet, taking the maximum lift-to-drag ratio of the wing as a criterion for optimization. 相似文献

The possibility of constructing an optical scheme of a telescope for a small satellite based on mirrors with freeform surfaces and a curved photodetector is considered. The effects of a finite correlation length of a turbulent velocity field on the line formation process are considered for hydrogen absorption lines observed in quasar spectra. It is shown that both thermal and large-scale stochastic motions with a finite correlation length (0<l<) lead in general tosmaller equivalent widths of hydrogen lines than in the case when macroscopic motions are assumed to be completely uncorrelated (l0). Different influence of this effect on optically thin and thick absorption lines allows us to measure eventually turbulent characteristics of the gas in the Ly forest clouds. It is emphasized that possible measurements of the deuterium abundance in the early Universe could yield systematically higher ratios of D/H if the finite-correlation-length effects are ignored. 相似文献

In the 25 months since Jupiter flyby, the Ulysses spacecraft has climbed southward to a heliolatitude of 56°. This transit has been marked by an evolution from slow, dense coronal streamer belt solar wind through two regions where the rotation of the Sun carried Ulysses back and forth between streamer belt and polar coronal hole flows, and finally into a region of essentially continuous fast, low density solar wind from the southern polar coronal hole. Throughout these large changes, the momentum flux normalized to 1 AU displays very little systematic variation. In addition, the bulk properties of the polar coronal hole solar wind are quite similar to those observed in high speed streams in the ecliptic plane at 1 AU. Coronal mass ejections and forward and reverse shocks associated with corotating interaction regions have also been observed at higher heliolatitudes, however they are seen less frequently with increasing southern heliolatitude. Ulysses has thus far collected data from 20° of nearly contiguous solar wind flows from the polar coronal hole. We examine these data for characteristic variations with heliolatitude and find that the bulk properties in general show very little systematic variation across the southern polar coronal hole so far. 相似文献
