We present a study of the temporal behavior of the systolic (SBP) and diastolic (DBP) blood pressure for a sample of 51 normotensive, healthy volunteers, 18 men and 33 women with an average age of 19 years old in Mexico City, Mexico, during April and May, 2008. We divided the data by sex along the circadian rhythm. Three geomagnetic storms occurred during the studied time-span. The strongest one, a moderate storm, is attributed to a coronal hole border that reached the Earth. The ANOVA test applied to the strongest storm showed that even though we are dealing with a moderate geomagnetic storm, there are statistically significant responses of the blood pressure. The superposed epoch analysis during a three-day window around the strongest storm shows that on average the largest changes occurred for the SBP. Moreover, the SBP largest increases occurred two days before and one day after this storm, and women are the most sensitive group as they present larger SBP and DBP average changes than men. Finally, given the small size of the sample, we cannot generalize our results. 相似文献

A system for providing near-instantaneous determination of the azimuthal angle of arrival of a received signal has been designed and fabricated at L band. Direction is determined by phase measurement of the outputs of a multimode antenna, which has no moving parts. Cosmic rays provide a diagnostic tool to analyze processes in interplanetary space and at the Sun. Cosmic rays also directly
affect the terrestrial environment and serve as indicators of solar variability and non anthropogenic climatic changes on
Earth at present and in the distant past.
After the invention of the neutron monitor by John A. Simpson in 1948, an international network of cosmic ray detectors developed
in a cooperative effort to examine temporal and spatial variations in our space environment. The resulting datasets represent
the longest continuous, high time resolution series of particle radiation measurement in space science. At present, the neutron
monitor network is complemented by spacecraft instrumentation to study solar-terrestrial correlated phenomena.

Synchrotron radiation is generated throughout the Milky Way. It fills the sky, and carries with it the imprint of the magnetic field at the point of origin and along the propagation path. Observations of the diffuse polarized radio emission should be able to provide information on Galactic magnetic fields with detail matching the angular resolution of the telescope. I review what has been learned from existing data, but the full potential cannot be realized from current observations because they do not adequately sample the frequency structure of the polarized emission, or they lack information on large-scale structure. I discuss three surveys, each overcoming one of these limitations, and show how use of complementary data on other ISM tracers can help elucidate the role of magnetic fields in interstellar processes. The focus of this review is on the small-scale field, on sizes comparable with the various forms of interaction of stars with their surroundings. The future is bright for this field of research as new telescopes are being built, designed for the survey mode of observation, equipped for wideband, multichannel polarization observations. 相似文献

The invention of the neutron monitor pile for the study of cosmic-ray intensity-time and energy changes began with the discovery
in 1948 that the nucleonic component cascade in the atmosphere had a huge geomagnetic latitude dependence. For example, between
0° and 60° this dependence was a ∼ 200–400% effect – depending on altitude – thus opening the opportunity to measure the intensity
changes in the arriving cosmic-ray nuclei down to ∼1–2 GeV nucl−1 for the first time. In these measurements the fast (high energy) neutron intensity was shown to be a surrogate for the nuclear
cascade intensity in the atmosphere.
The development of the neutron monitor in 1948–1951 and the first geomagnetic latitude network will be discussed. Among its
early applications were:
(1) to prove that there exists interplanetary solar modulation of galactic cosmic-rays (1952), and;
(2) to provide the evidence for a dynamical heliosphere (1956).
With the world-wide distribution of neutron monitor stations that are presently operating (∼ 50) many novel investigations
are still to be carried out, especially in collaborations with spacecraft experiments.

Radiometric dating shows that the earliest steps in forming the substance of meteorites and assembling it into planetesimals
occurred in a very short interval of time, 1–2 Ma. This study shows that rapid formation is also dictated by the need to use
short-lived 26Al (half-life T
1/2=0.74 Ma) as a heat source to metamorphose and in some cases melt the meteorite parent bodies after they accreted. The earliest
events in solar system history dated by cosmochemists, formation at high temperatures of the Ca,Al-rich inclusions that occur
in chondritic meteorites, probably occurred during the most energetic stage of protosolar disk evolution, as the protosun
neared its present mass and infall drew to a close.

A method for deconvolving equatorial pitch angle distributions of energetic neutral atoms from images from the ENA instruments on the IMAGE satellite is described and illustrated using simulated data obtained from calculated models of ring current flux. The unknown flux is expanded in terms of cubic B-splines and Legendre polynomials. The expansion coefficients are obtained from the solution of a linear set of equations that select the smoothest solution that fits the data. The Advanced Composition Explorer (ACE) mission is supported by the ACE Science Center for the purposes of processing and
distributing ACE data, and facilitating collaborative work on the data by instrument investigators and by the space physics
community at large. The Science Center will strive to ensure that the data are properly archived and easily available. In
particular, it is intended that use of a centralized science facility will guarantee appropriate use of data formatting standards,
thus easing access to the data, will improve communications within and to the ACE science working team, and will reduce redundant
effort in data processing. Secondary functions performed by the Science Center include acting as an interface between the
scientists and the mission operations team.

The sporangiophores of the zygomycete fungus Phycomyces blakesleeanus contain octahedral crystals with diameters of up to 5 micrometers in their vacuole. The crystals are associated with the intracellular membrane system. In tilted or horizontally placed sporangiophores, the crystals sediment to the respective lower face of the vacuole with a velocity of up to 100 micrometers per minute. The sedimentation is completed within about 2 minutes, well within the latency period for the negative gravitropic response of Phycomyces. Crystal-lacking mutant strains display a smaller maximal bending angle and a reduced gravitropic bending rate in comparison to the wild type. We therefore conclude that the crystals serve as statoliths for gravitropism in Phycomyces. 相似文献
