A direct relationship between the conventional properties of an array and the array performance in an adaptive mode is given. Expressions are provided to obtain the output signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) of an adaptive array in terms of its conventinal pattern and the locations of the desired signal and jammers. These expressions permit one to evaluate the performance of an adaptive array without an exhaustive search for all possible scenarios and parametric values to ascertain that the required performance levels be met. In fact, one can predict the jammer locations for which the array will provide its best and worst performance by observing the conventional pattern. Several examples are provided to demonstrate the relationship between the conventional pattern and the adaptive array performance. The examples include both linear and planar arrays. 相似文献

The Rosetta Orbiter Spectrometer for Ion and Neutral Analysis (ROSINA) will answer important questions posed by the mission’s
main objectives. After Giotto, this will be the first time the volatile part of a comet will be analyzed in situ. This is
a very important investigation, as comets, in contrast to meteorites, have maintained most of the volatiles of the solar nebula.
To accomplish the very demanding objectives through all the different phases of the comet’s activity, ROSINA has unprecedented
capabilities including very wide mass range (1 to >300 amu), very high mass resolution (m/Δ m > 3000, i.e. the ability to resolve CO from N2 and 13C from 12CH), very wide dynamic range and high sensitivity, as well as the ability to determine cometary gas velocities, and temperature.
ROSINA consists of two mass spectrometers for neutrals and primary ions with complementary capabilities and a pressure sensor.
To ensure that absolute gas densities can be determined, each mass spectrometer carries a reservoir of a calibrated gas mixture
allowing in-flight calibration. Furthermore, identical flight-spares of all three sensors will serve for detailed analysis
of all relevant parameters, in particular the sensitivities for complex organic molecules and their fragmentation patterns

I have analyzed geomagnetic disturbance index C9, mean solar magnetic field observed at Stanford Solar Observatory for the interval January 13, 1976 – December 30, 1993. It has been established a good correspondence between high-intensity geomagnetic recurrent and solar magnetic field patterns during whole period analyzed. A surprising thing is that the behavior of the solar mean field and interplanetary medium in the latest two solar cycles is very similar. Three-dimensional (3-D) matched filtering has been suggested as a powerful processing technique for detecting weak, moving optical targets immersed in a background noise field. The procedure requires the processing of entire sequences of frames of optical scenes containing the moving targets. The 3-D processor must be properly matched to the target signature and its velocity vector, but will simultaneously detect all targets to which it is matched. The results of a study to evaluate the 3-D processor are presented. Simulation results are reported which show the ability of the processor to detect targets well below the background level. These results demonstrate the capability and robustness of the processor, and show that the algorithms, although somewhat complicated, can be implemented readily. Some effects on the number of frames processed, target flight scenarios, and velocity and signature mismatch are also presented. The ability to detect multiple targets is demonstrated 相似文献

The Saturnian system contains 18 known satellites ranging from 10 km to 2575 km in radius. In bulk properties and surface
appearance these objects show less regularity than the sparser Jupiter system. The Galilean-sized moon Titan sports a dense
atmosphere of nitrogen and methane which renders surface observations difficult, but also makes this moon intriguing from
the standpoints of climate change and exobiology. The Cassini-Huygens mission will make extensive observations of the satellites
over a range of wavelengths, as well as using in-situ sampling of satellite environments (and in the case of Titan, sampling
of atmosphere and surface). The goals of these extensive investigations are to understand the bulk properties of the satellites,
their surface compositions and evolution through time, as well as interactions with the magnetosphere and rings of Saturn.
This knowledge in turn should provide a deeper understanding of the origin of the Saturnian system as a whole and underlying
causes for the distinctive differences from the Jovian satellite system.

At the ionospheric level, the substorm onset (expansion phase) is marked by the initial brightening and subsequent breakup of a pre-existing auroral arc. According to the field line resonance (FLR) wave model, the substorm-related auroral arc is caused by the field-aligned current carried by FLRs. The FLRs are standing shear Alfvén wave structures that are excited along the dipole/quasi-dipole lines of the geomagnetic field. The FLRs (that can cause auroral arc) thread from the Earthward edge of the plasma sheet and link the auroral arc to the plasma sheet region of 6–15 R
E. The region is associated with magnetic fluctuations that result from the nonlinear wave-wave interactions of the cross-field current-instability. The instability (excited at the substorm onset) disrupts the cross-tail current which is built up during the growth phase of the substorms and results in magnetic fluctuations. The diversion of the current to polar regions can lead to auroral arc intensification. The current FLR model is based on the amplitude equations that describe the nonlinear space-time evolution of FLRs in the presence of ponderomotive forces exerted by large amplitude FLRs (excited during substorms). The present work will modify the FLR wave model to include the effects arising from magnetic fluctuations that result from current disruption near the plasma sheet (6–15 R
E). The nonlinear evolution of FLRs is coupled with the dynamics of plasma sheet through a momentum exchange term (resulting from magnetic fluctuations due to current disruption) in the generalized Ohm's law. The resulting amplitude equations including the effects arising from magnetic fluctuations can be used to study the structure of the auroral arcs formed during substorms. We have also studied the role of feedback mechanism (in a dipole geometry of the geomagnetic field) in the formation of the discrete auroral arc observed on the nightside magnetosphere. The present nonlinear dispersive model (NDM) is extended to include effects arising from the low energy electrons originating from the plasma sheet boundary layer. These electrons increase the ionospheric conductivity in a localized patch and enhance the field-aligned current through a feedback mechanism. The feedback effects were studied numerically in a dipole geometry using the the NDM. The numerical studies yield the magnitude of the field-aligned current that is large enough to form a discrete auroral arc. Our studies provide theoretical support to the observational work of Newell et al. that the feedback instability plays a major role in the formation of the discrete auroral arcs observed on the nightside magnetosphere. 相似文献

The space-based Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) is a joint venture of ESA and NASA within the frame of the Solar Terrestrial Science Programme (STSP), the first Cornerstone of ESA's long-term programme Space Science — Horizon 2000. The principal scientific objectives of the SOHO mission are: a) a better understanding of the structure and dynamics of the solar interior using techniques of helioseismology, and b) a better insight into the physical processes that form and heat the Sun's corona, maintain it and give rise to its acceleration into the solar wind. The dynamic wind-tunnel tests of a functional model of a flight vehicle being developed make it possible to obtain more reliable data on aerodynamic and structural characteristics and, hence, improve the design quality and increase reliability in the finished product operation. The objective stated is achieved by formation of angular model motions, the parameters of which are measured and compared with angular parameters calculated using the analytical solutions of differential equations of motions being formed. We considered two media of the incoming flow with the resistance proportional to speed and the square of speed. This is an observational review, with an emphasis on photometric data and their interpretation. Two lists are presented, one containing β Cephei stars, and the other, β Cephei suspects. These lists then serve as a basis for discussing such topics as the location of β Cephei stars in the observational and theoretical H-R diagrams, the evolutionary state of these stars, the period-luminosity and period-luminosity-color relations, and observational identification of pulsation modes. The paper also includes references to recent work connected with the theoretical discovery that an opacity mechanism is responsible for the excitation of β Cephei-star pulsations.
