In November 1992, the Ulysses spacecraft observed a multiple solar particle event and a CME event at 5.2 AU and a heliographic latitude of 20° S which were superimposed to the recurrent corotating interacting region. Distinct particle flux increases caused by these events were observed in all energy channels of the EPAC experiment. The experimental findings are discussed.  相似文献

MIRO: Microwave Instrument for Rosetta Orbiter   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The European Space Agency Rosetta Spacecraft, launched on March 2, 2004 toward Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, carries a relatively small and lightweight millimeter-submillimeter spectrometer instrument, the first of its kind launched into deep space. The instrument will be used to study the evolution of outgassing water and other molecules from the target comet as a function of heliocentric distance. During flybys of the asteroids (2867) Steins and (21) Lutetia in 2008 and 2010 respectively, the instrument will measure thermal emission and search for water vapor in the vicinity of these asteroids. The instrument, named MIRO (Microwave Instrument for the Rosetta Orbiter), consists of a 30-cm diameter, offset parabolic reflector telescope followed by two heterodyne receivers. Center-band operating frequencies of the receivers are near 190 GHz (1.6 mm) and 562 GHz (0.5 mm). Broadband continuum channels are implemented in both frequency bands for the measurement of near surface temperatures and temperature gradients in Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko and the asteroids (2867) Steins and (21) Lutetia. A 4096 channel CTS (Chirp Transform Spectrometer) spectrometer having 180 MHz total bandwidth and 44 kHz resolution is, in addition to the continuum channel, connected to the submillimeter receiver. The submillimeter radiometer/spectrometer is fixed tuned to measure four volatile species – CO, CH3OH, NH3 and three, oxygen-related isotopologues of water, H2 16O, H2 17O and H2 18O. The basic quantities measured with the MIRO instrument are surface temperature, gas production rates and relative abundances, and velocity and excitation temperature of each species, along with their spatial and temporal variability. This paper provides a short discussion of the scientific objectives of the investigation, and a detailed discussion of the MIRO instrument system.  相似文献

This chapter reviews how our knowledge of CMEs and CME-associated phenomena has been improved, since the launch of the SOHO mission, thanks to multi-wavelength analysis. The combination of data obtained from space-based experiments and ground based instruments allows us to follow the space-time development of an event from the bottom of the corona to large distances in the interplanetary medium. Since CMEs originate in the low solar corona, understanding the physical processes that generate them is strongly dependant on coordinated multi-wavelength observations. CMEs display a large diversity in morphology and kinematic properties, but there is presently no statistical evidence that those properties may serve to group them into different classes. When a CME takes place, the coronal magnetic field undergoes restructuring. Much of the current research is focused on understanding how the corona sustains the stresses that allow the magnetic energy to build up and how, later on, this magnetic energy is released during eruptive flares and CMEs. Multi-wavelength observations have confirmed that reconnection plays a key role during the development of CMEs. Frequently, CMEs display a rather simple shape, exhibiting a well known three-part structure (bright leading edge, dark cavity and bright knot). These types of events have led to the proposal of the ‘`standard model’' of the development of a CME, a model which predicts the formation of current sheets. A few recent coronal observations provide some evidence for such sheets. Other more complex events correspond to multiple eruptions taking place on a time scale much shorter than the cadence of coronagraph instruments. They are often associated with large-scale dimming and coronal waves. The exact nature of these waves and the physical link between these different manifestations are not yet elucidated. We also discuss what kind of shocks are produced during a flare or a CME. Several questions remain unanswered. What is the nature of the shocks in the corona (blast-wave or piston-driven?) How they are related to Moreton waves seen in Hα? How they are related to interplanetary shocks? The last section discusses the origin of energetic electrons detected in the corona and in the interplanetary medium. “Complex type III-like events,”which are detected at hectometric wavelengths, high in the corona, and are associated with CMEs, appear to originate from electrons that have been accelerated lower in the corona and not at the bow shock of CMEs. Similarly, impulsive energetic electrons observed in the interplanetary medium are not the exclusive result of electron acceleration at the bow shocks of CMEs; rather they have a coronal origin.  相似文献

The evolution and escape of the martian atmosphere and the planet’s water inventory can be separated into an early and late evolutionary epoch. The first epoch started from the planet’s origin and lasted ~500 Myr. Because of the high EUV flux of the young Sun and Mars’ low gravity it was accompanied by hydrodynamic blow-off of hydrogen and strong thermal escape rates of dragged heavier species such as O and C atoms. After the main part of the protoatmosphere was lost, impact-related volatiles and mantle outgassing may have resulted in accumulation of a secondary CO2 atmosphere of a few tens to a few hundred mbar around ~4–4.3 Gyr ago. The evolution of the atmospheric surface pressure and water inventory of such a secondary atmosphere during the second epoch which lasted from the end of the Noachian until today was most likely determined by a complex interplay of various nonthermal atmospheric escape processes, impacts, carbonate precipitation, and serpentinization during the Hesperian and Amazonian epochs which led to the present day surface pressure.  相似文献

Since their discovery, spicules have attracted increased attention as energy/mass bridges between the dense and dynamic photosphere and the tenuous hot solar corona. Mechanical energy of photospheric random and coherent motions can be guided by magnetic field lines, spanning from the interior to the upper parts of the solar atmosphere, in the form of waves and oscillations. Since spicules are one of the most pronounced features of the chromosphere, the energy transport they participate in can be traced by the observations of their oscillatory motions. Oscillations in spicules have been observed for a long time. However the recent high-resolution and high-cadence space and ground based facilities with superb spatial, temporal and spectral capacities brought new aspects in the research of spicule dynamics. Here we review the progress made in imaging and spectroscopic observations of waves and oscillations in spicules. The observations are accompanied by a discussion on theoretical modelling and interpretations of these oscillations. Finally, we embark on the recent developments made on the presence and role of Alfvén and kink waves in spicules. We also address the extensive debate made on the Alfvén versus kink waves in the context of the explanation of the observed transverse oscillations of spicule axes.  相似文献

The uninterrupted measurement of the total solar irradiance during the last three solar cycles and an increasing amount of solar spectral irradiance measurements as well as solar imaging observations (magnetograms and photometric data) have stimulated the development of models attributing irradiance variations to solar surface magnetism. Here we review the current status of solar irradiance measurements and modelling efforts based on solar photospheric magnetic fields. Thereby we restrict ourselves to the study of solar variations from days to the solar cycle. Phenomenological models of the solar atmosphere in combination with imaging observations of solar electromagnetic radiation and measurements of the photospheric magnetic field have reached high enough quality to show that a large fraction (at least, about 80%) of the solar irradiance variability can be explained by the radiative effects of the magnetic activity present in the photosphere. Also, significant progress has been made with magnetohydrodynamic simulations of convection that allow us to relate the radiance of the photospheric magnetic structures to the observations.  相似文献

The Rover Environmental Monitoring Station (REMS) will investigate environmental factors directly tied to current habitability at the Martian surface during the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) mission. Three major habitability factors are addressed by REMS: the thermal environment, ultraviolet irradiation, and water cycling. The thermal environment is determined by a mixture of processes, chief amongst these being the meteorological. Accordingly, the REMS sensors have been designed to record air and ground temperatures, pressure, relative humidity, wind speed in the horizontal and vertical directions, as well as ultraviolet radiation in different bands. These sensors are distributed over the rover in four places: two booms located on the MSL Remote Sensing Mast, the ultraviolet sensor on the rover deck, and the pressure sensor inside the rover body. Typical daily REMS observations will collect 180 minutes of data from all sensors simultaneously (arranged in 5 minute hourly samples plus 60 additional minutes taken at times to be decided during the course of the mission). REMS will add significantly to the environmental record collected by prior missions through the range of simultaneous observations including water vapor; the ability to take measurements routinely through the night; the intended minimum of one Martian year of observations; and the first measurement of surface UV irradiation. In this paper, we describe the scientific potential of REMS measurements and describe in detail the sensors that constitute REMS and the calibration procedures.  相似文献
