空间运输系统对空军卫星控制网的影响

二十多年来,空军卫星控制网(AFSCN)为许多军用航天器和发射运载器提供了实时跟踪、遥测和遥控支持。随着国防部航天任务测控要求的变化,空军卫星控制网的测控、通信和数据处理能力的扩展和现代化都已稳步增长。空间运输系统的发展促进了空军卫星控制网的发展。本文介绍了为满足空间运输系统的要求对空军卫星控制网目前已进行的和预期进行的一系列改造。     

Topological biosignatures: large-scale structure of chemical networks from biology and astrochemistry

The chemical basis of life involves more than simply the presence of biological molecules; biochemical systems embody a complex network of reactions with characteristic topological features. At the same time, chemical complexity is also present in nonbiological contexts, inviting us to clarify the relationship between chemistry and life through comparative studies. This study examines chemical networks from biology (the metabolism of E. coli) and astronomy (gas-phase reactions in dark molecular clouds) to establish common topological features that may be generic for any complex chemical system, as well as clear differences that may be topological signatures of life. The biological and astrochemical networks exhibit different scaling behaviors, and the network motifs found in the two systems show similarities as well as significant differences. The PageRank algorithm was used to quantify the degree to which individual species act primarily as products or reactants; in the metabolic network, these two roles are nearly identical for most species, whereas the astrochemical network shows a clearer partitioning into reactants and products.

美国陆军的远距离光纤通信系统

随着新的高级武器系统的使用,盟国部队将要求改进指挥、控制、通信和情报(C~3I)系统的性能,以便充分发挥这些武器系统的最大效能。威慑部队认识到通信系统所发挥的巨大作用,肯定会发动一场较大的电子战来破坏这种通信。在这种电子战攻击下,战场上只有电缆通信是一种可靠的和有效的通信方式。而目前的战术电缆系统,如CX-11230金属双同轴电缆,已不能满足作战环境下的高机动性、快速展开和可靠性及生存能力的要求。认识到这一点以后,陆军开始大规模研究光导纤维的工程项目,来弥补这些不足。这个研究项目称为远距离光纤通信系统,即FOTS(LH)。

Prebiotic significance of extraterrestrial ice photochemistry: detection of hydantoin in organic residues

The delivery of extraterrestrial organic materials to primitive Earth from meteorites or micrometeorites has long been postulated to be one of the origins of the prebiotic molecules involved in the subsequent apparition of life. Here, we report on experiments in which vacuum UV photo-irradiation of interstellar/circumstellar ice analogues containing H(2)O, CH(3)OH, and NH(3) led to the production of several molecules of prebiotic interest. These were recovered at room temperature in the semi-refractory, water-soluble residues after evaporation of the ice. In particular, we detected small quantities of hydantoin (2,4-imidazolidinedione), a species suspected to play an important role in the formation of poly- and oligopeptides. In addition, hydantoin is known to form under extraterrestrial, abiotic conditions, since it has been detected, along with various other derivatives, in the soluble part of organic matter of primitive carbonaceous meteorites. This result, together with other related experiments reported recently, points to the potential importance of the photochemistry of interstellar "dirty" ices in the formation of organics in Solar System materials. Such molecules could then have been delivered to the surface of primitive Earth, as well as other telluric (exo-) planets, to help trigger first prebiotic reactions with the capacity to lead to some form of primitive biomolecular activity.
