Sketching is traditionally associated withdoodling simple strokes on a piece of paper.Only few professionals outside of design andthe fine arts have recognized the expressivepower of this intuitive modality. However,sketching seems particularly well suited tocapture objects and situations in a spatialenvironment, such as geographic space. To learnmore about the techniques and strategies peopleuse when sketching, a survey of sketching wasconducted. The study showed that paper andpencil sketches contain mostly simple andabstract objects that are composed of only fewstrokes. The spatial configuration of a sceneis primarily expressed through the topologicalordering of objects relative to each other.Metric relationships are used to refine spatialconfigurations. These and other findingssuggest that sketching is an appropriatemodality to interact with a computer where onewants to describe and capture objectconfigurations in a spatial environment, suchas a geographic information system (GIS).  相似文献

Topography of the surface of a comet nucleus is likely rough at all scales smaller than the mean effective radius. We present a flexible and easily scalable model for quantitative calculations simulating the effects of comet nucleus topography on gas release and dust mantle evolution. The topographic features we describe must be large enough (typically> 10 m) so that they will not erode in one orbit of the nucleus around the Sun. The maximum effective size of a hill is about 1/√2 times the effective radius of the nucleus. If it is larger, then an ellipsoidal shape of the nucleus is more appropriate. The procedure described here also permits for inhomogeneous composition of the topographic features, leading to locally different rates of gas production (e.g., jet-like features and filaments) or different thicknesses of the dust mantle. It also can give rise to different temperature patches, locally varying albedos and emissivities, and may explain the formation of permanent dust mantles.  相似文献

An essential part of increment preparation for the ISS is the training of the flight crews. Each international partner is responsible for the basic training of its own astronauts, where a basic knowledge is taught on space science and engineering, ISS systems and operations and general astronaut skills like flying, diving, survival, language, etc. The main parts of the ISS crew training are the Advanced Training, e.g., generic ISS operations; nominal and malfunction systems operations and emergencies, and the Increment-Specific Training, i.e., operations and tasks specific to a particular increment. The Advanced and Increment-Specific Training is multilateral training, i.e., each partner is training all ISS astronauts on its contributions to the ISS program. Consequently, ESA is responsible for the Basic Training of its own astronauts and the Advanced and Increment-Specific Training of all ISS crews after Columbus activation on Columbus Systems Operations, Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV), and ESA payloads.

This paper gives an overview of the ESA ISS Training Program for Columbus Systems Operations and ATV, for which EADS Space Transportation GmbH is the prime contractor. The key training tasks, the training flow and the training facilities are presented.  相似文献
