A complex radio event was observed on January 17, 2005 with the radio-spectrograph ARTEMIS-IV, operating at Thermopylae, Greece; it was associated with an X3.8 SXR flare and two fast Halo CMEs in close succession. We present dynamic spectra of this event; the high time resolution (1/100 s) of the data in the 450–270 MHz range, makes possible the detection and analysis of the fine structure which this major radio event exhibits. The fine structure was found to match, almost, the comprehensive Ondrejov Catalogue which it refers to the spectral range 0.8–2 GHz, yet seems to produce similar fine structure with the metric range. 相似文献

The process of generation of upper-hybrid waves by electron beam with loss-cone distribution is considered. The necessary conditions of the double plasma resonance effect, which is considered to be one of the most probable formation mechanisms of the zebra patterns in the spectra of solar radio emission, are investigated. It is shown that this effect considerably affects excitation of waves by electrons with power-law energetic spectrum. Interpretation of observations and diagnostics of plasma for the April 21, 2002 event are performed. It is found that the zebra stripes consist of separate short pulses; there is a good correlation between the separate stripes (with a certain temporal shift). The conclusion about the impulsive mode of injection of energetic particles into the coronal loop is made. 相似文献

High correlation between microwave bursts and Hα flares has already been reported. However, Solar Maximum Year cooperation made it possible to do simultaneous observations of selected active regions with good spatial resolution. In this paper the results of the direct comparison of solar microwave recordings at the Metsähovi Radio Research Station and Hα films at the Hvar Observatory are reported. This comparison reveals that the correlation of microwave gradual rise and fall (GRF) events (time scale tens of minutes) with Hα flares is practically 100 percent. On the other hand the correlation of the impulsive microwave bursts (time scale tens of seconds) with Hα flares is low. From this it can be concluded that the main contribution to the microwave GRF bursts comes from thermal radiation. 相似文献

Due to the lack of simultaneous high sensitivity/time resolution observations at mm- cm-λ and m-λ a program on such investigations has been carried out with data obtained by INPE at Itapetinga and by the Astronomical Observatory of Trieste. Preliminary results obtained by comparing mm-wave burst structures with 408, 327 and 237 MHz indicate that i) for majority of major time structures (time scales of the order of 1 sec) observed at 22 GHz bursts, corresponding type III bursts have been observed at 237 MHz, however ii) start times at mm-λ and m-λ are not often coincident at two wavelengths. These observations favour the hypothesis of (a) time dependent acceleration of energetic electrons and (b) burst emission is the response to a multiple injection of energetic electrons. 相似文献

The COMPTEL experiment on GRO images 0.7 – 30 MeV celestial gamma-radiation that falls within its 1 steradian field of view. During the first fifteen months in orbit, preliminary localizations from BATSE triggers indicated that about 1 in 6 cosmic events could have fallen within COMPTEL's field of view. We summarize work on the brightest of these gamma-ray bursts and present new position constraints for GRB 911118 and GRB 920622. 相似文献

This work presents the analysis of five fine structures in the solar radio emission, observed between June 2000 and October 2001 by the Brazilian Solar Spectroscope (BSS), in the decimeter frequency band of 950–2500 MHz. Based on their morphological characteristics identified in the dynamic spectra, the fine structures had been classified as type U-like or type J-like bursts. Such emissions are variants of the type III bursts. They support the hypothesis of generation by plasma emission mechanism, from interaction of electron beams accelerated during solar flares, propagating along closed magnetic structures, within the trapped plasma of the solar corona. The spectral and temporal characteristics of the five fine structures had been obtained from the dynamic spectra and the parameters of the agent and the emitting source have been determined, assuming both fundamental and harmonic emissions. The analysis revealed the flux density of the structures is less than 20–80 s.f.u. For assumption of harmonic emission, the interval of values for the source parameters estimated are: the loop size is (0.3–5.1) × 1010 cm; the electron beam velocity is in the range of 0.16–0.53 c; the temperature of coronal loop top is of the order of (0.25–1.55) × 107 K; and the low limit for the magnetic field is of 7–26 G. These results are in agreement with previous determinations reported in the literature. 相似文献

Type-III bursts are signatures of the electron beams accelerated during the solar flares, their observation and investigation provide information of the acceleration processes, the characteristics of the exciting agent and the acceleration site. The Brazilian Solar Spectroscope (BSS), in operation at INPE, Brazil, have recorded type-III radio bursts in decimetric range (2050–2250 MHz) with high time resolution of 20 ms. Decimetric reverse drift bursts are possibly generated in a dense loop by electron beams travelling towards the photosphere. Hence their time profiles should carry signatures of the density inhomogenities in the loop. Here the temporal and spectral characteristics of decimetric type-III bursts are presented. 相似文献

A study of the morphology of 14 short ( 1 s) gamma ray bursts observed by the Franco Soviet SIGNE detectors onboard the VENERA spacecraft between 1978 and 1982 is presented. We find two major groups of short bursts characterised not only by their different durations ( 1 s and 100 ms respectively), but also by different e-folding rise and decay times. A study of the time history of the impulsive portion of the 1979 March 5 event at 2 ms resolution shows evidence for a previously undiscovered 23ms quasi periodicity. These results are discussed in the context of neutron star models for gamma ray bursters. 相似文献

The results obtained on cosmic gamma-ray bursts over the last several years are reviewed and compared with the older “historical” results. Fine time resolution measurements of burster light curves continue to reveal structure at the millisecond and sub-millisecond level, suggesting a compact object origin. Similarly, the evolution of the low energy X-ray spectra of bursts towards shapes consistent with 1–2 keV blackbodies may be interpreted in terms of a neutron star origin, as can the continuing detection of absorption and emission features. The statistical evidence, however, argues strongly for an isotropic distribution which has been completely sampled. To reconcile this with galactic neutron stars requires the assumption that they are Population II objects. Counterpart searches have evolved to the point where they may be carried out within days of an event, and a soft X-ray source has now been detected in the error box of one recent burst. 相似文献

The INTEGRAL satellite has been successfully launched in October 2002 and has recently started its operational phase. The INTEGRAL burst alert system (IBAS) will distribute in real time the coordinates of the gamma ray bursts (GRBs) detected with INTEGRAL. After a brief introduction on the INTEGRAL instruments, we describe the main IBAS characteristics and report on the initial results. During the initial performance and verification phase of the INTEGRAL mission, which lasted about two months, two GRBs have been localized with accuracy of 2–4 arcmin. These observations have allowed us to validate the IBAS software, which is now expected to provide quick (few seconds delay) and precise (few arcmin) localization for 10–15 GRBs per year. 相似文献

We suggest that superbursts from some low mass X-ray binaries may be due to breaking and re-formation of diquark pairs, on the surface of realistic strange stars. Diquarks are expected to break up due to the explosion and shock of the thermonuclear process. After a prolonged accretion when almost all pairs get broken, the subsequent production of copious diquarks may produce sufficient energy to produce the superbursts. 相似文献

Using the Clark Lake Radioheliograph data we present direct evidence that type III electron streams propagate in dense coronal streamers. We also present imaging observations of meter-decameter microbursts, which appear to be similar to those observed in hard X-rays. At meter-decameter wavelengths, these microbursts appear to be due to plasma radiation. From observations made with ISSE-3, we discuss the characteristics of hectometer and kilometer wavelength radio bursts. In particular, we show that from studies of type III storms that the exciter electrons propagate along spiral structures, where the density is enhanced and that there is an acceleration of the solar wind. We discuss type II bursts at kilometer wavelengths, compare them with meter type II bursts and discuss their association with interplanetary shocks. We show that the interaction between type III electron streams and shocks at kilometer wavelengths can provide information on the interplanetary shock geometry. Finally, we discuss the possibility that some shock associated (SA) events may be emissions caused by electrons accelerated lower in the atmosphere rather than high in the corona in type II shocks.Recent advances in solar research have resulted from new work on plasma radiation theory, new observations of active regions and flares across the electromagnetic spectrum and the availability of spacecraft in situ measurements of solar ejecta. In this paper, we review some results obtained with the Clark Lake multifrequency radioheliograph at meter-decameter wavelengths and from satellite multifrequency directive observations at hectometer and kilometer wavelengths. We present evidence that type III electrons propagate in dense coronal streamers, and that frequently observed microbursts (presumably of type III) at meter-decameter wavelengths are due to plasma radiation. We discuss observations of hectometer and kilometer type III radio storms which reveal information about active region structures, interplanetary magnetic field configuration, and solar wind acceleration. We also discuss kilometer type II bursts, interactions between type III electrons and interplanetary shocks, and present some new results on shock associated (SA) events. 相似文献

It has been justifiably questioned if the black hole candidates (BHCs) have “hard surface” why Type I X-ray bursts are not seen from them [Narayan, R., Black holes in astrophysics, New J. Phys, 7, 199–218, 2005]. It is pointed out that a “physical surface” need not always be “hard” and could be “gaseous” in case the compact object is sufficiently hot [Mitra, A., The day of the reckoning: the value of the integration constant in the vacuum Schwarzschild solution, physics/0504076, p1–p6, 2005; Mitra, A., BHs or ECOs: A review of 90 years of misconceptions, in: Focus on Black Holes Research, Nova Science Pub., NY, p1–p94, 2005]. Even if a “hard surface” would be there, presence of strong intrinsic magnetic field could inhibit Type I X-ray burst from a compact object as is the case for Her X-1. Thus, non-occurrence of Type I bursts actually rules out those alternatives of BHs which are either non-magnetized or cold and, hence, is no evidence for existence of Event Horizons (EHs). On the other hand, from the first principle, we again show that the BHCs being uncharged and having finite masses cannot be BHs, because uncharged BHs have a unique mass M = 0. Thus the previous results that the so-called BHCs are actually extremely hot, ultramagnetized, Magnetospheric Eternally Collapsing Objects (ECOs) [Robertson, S., Leiter, D., Evidence for intrinsic magnetic moment in black hole candidates, Astrophys. J., 565, 447–451, (astro-ph/0102381), 2002 ; Robertson, S., Leiter, D., MECO model of galactic black hole candidates and active galactic nuclei, in: New Developments in Black Hole Research, Nova Science Pub., NY, p1–p44, astro-ph/0602453, 2005] rather than anything else get reconfirmed by non-occurrence of Type I X-ray bursts in BHCs. 相似文献

The detailed study of the spectral evolution during the steep decay phase of early X-ray light curves of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) is a very important task that can give us information on different emission components contributing to the prompt-to-afterglow transition and help to understand the link between these two stages. Time resolved spectral analysis of bright GRBs detected by Swift has shown that a good modeling of the early X-ray light curves can be obtained with Band or cut-off power-law broad band spectra with evolving parameters (e.g., decaying peak energy). We developed a procedure to simultaneously fit the temporal evolution of all the spectral parameters of a GRB during the prompt-to-afterglow transition based on the analysis of the Swift Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) and the Swift X-ray Telescope (XRT) count rate and hardness ratio light curves. The procedure has been tested on GRB 060614 and GRB 090618, two very peculiar bright GRB detected by Swift that show a long exponentially decaying tail with strong softening and peak energy crossing the XRT energy band. 相似文献

Several luminosity relations currently exist for long gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). Some were derived from the light curves; others were obtained from the spectra. In this study, we consider two of these luminosity relations: the time-lag, τlag, relation and the variability, V, relation and investigate their possible dependence on (or “evolution” with) the redshift, z. 相似文献

The solar plasma is strongly structured by the presence of magnetic field. This structuring is manifest in the photosphere in the form of flux tubes, from the readily visible sunspots to the sub-telescopic intense tubes, so that the atmosphere is divided into strong-field media or field-free media. In the corona, by contrast, the magnetic field permeates the whole of the atmosphere and structuring consists principally of density and temperature inhomogeneities. We discuss some of the causes of magnetic structuring, including kinematic concentration, convective collapse and magnetoconvection for photospheric tubes, spicules in the chromosphere, and thermal instability for coronal loops. 相似文献

Microwave radiometers and scatterometers as all-weather and day-and-night sensors are excellent tools for the reliable, regular observation of dynamic features of the surface of the earth. The various hydrologic states, the development of the metamorphism, the water equivalent and other parameters of the snow cover cause a very distinct spectral behaviour of the microwave emission and backscattering. The results of a long-term ground-based investigation of the microwave radiation properties along with classical determinations of the snow parameters during five seasons on an alpine test area allow the definition of an optimum package of microwave passive and active sensors for the global monitoring of the snow cover.Additionally it has been demonstrated that the utilization of the Nimbus-7 Scanning Multi-channel Microwave Radiometer data permit the production of large scale maps of the extent of dry snow, the estimated water equivalent of dry snow and the areas changing between frozen and wet snow. 相似文献
