Formation of the Cores of the Outer Planets

The formation of the giant planets seems to be best explained by accretion of planetesimals to form massive cores, which in the case of Jupiter and Saturn were able to capture nebular gas. However, the timescale for accretion of such cores has been a problem. Accretion in the outer solar system differs qualitatively from planetary growth in the terrestrial region, as the larger embryo masses and lower orbital velocities make bodies more subject to gravitational scattering. The planetesimal swarm in the outer nebula may be seeded by earlier-formed large bodies scattered from the region near the nebular “snow line”. Such a seed body can experience rapid runaway growth undisturbed by competitors; the style of growth is not oligarchy, but monarchy.

导向器尾缘结构面积变化对涡轮性能的影响

涡轮导向器尾缘的精细结构由于加工误差的存在,会导致流道流通面积的改变,进而会使涡轮性能发生改变.从实际工程问题出发,采用数值模拟的方法,研究了某型发动机低压涡轮导向器尾缘的“劈缝”冷却结构由于变形导致的尾缘前后(叶盆尾缘处流道面积T1和叶背尾缘处流道面积T2)面积变化对涡轮流场和性能的影响.研究结果表明:在设计状态下,涡轮的喉道为T2;当T2大于设计值时,涡轮功率和涡轮流量变大,涡轮效率和涡轮功变小,但是涡轮的功率存在一个最高值的T2;当T1大于设计值时,涡轮效率和涡轮功增加.

Comparison of the Past Two Solar Minima from the Perspective of the Interior Dynamics and Dynamo of the Sun

Solar cycle 23 behaved differently than cycle 22 in many ways. Certain properties, namely the long minimum at the end of cycle 23, weakening of polar fields, shrinking of polar coronal holes, reduction in the terrestrial atmospheric neutral density layer, have been identified as unusual compared to several past cycles. The origin of these differences most likely lies in the ways the dynamo has operated that led to distinctly different generation and evolution of the large-scale magnetic fields in cycles 22 and 23. Certain differences in the properties of Galactic-Cosmic Rays during cycles 22 and 23 have recently been explained by the differences in evolutionary pattern of coronal holes, which are linked to the dynamo-generated large-scale magnetic fields. In this paper, I will discuss the differences in the solar interior dynamics, particularly the properties of flow fields and their influence in governing the evolution of dynamo-generated magnetic fields during cycles 22 and 23, respectively.

The Responsibility of the Engineering School in the Continuing Education of the Engineer

Engineering schools have a responsibility to provide a science background upon which graduates may build to solve the across-the-discipline challenges of tomorrow. They cannot and should not train for solutions to today's problems. Schools must insure that their faculty continues its education beyond the Doctor's degree by means of workshops, professional meetings, and involvement in investigation and research. Individuals must, however, retain primary responsibility for investment of time, energy, and effort necessary to remain a productive member of the profession for their career.     

亚声速轴流压气机失速监测方法试验

为了研究轴流压气机失速先兆信号监测的有效算法,对亚声速轴流压气机试验台的孤立转子在不同转速下,从稳定工况到失速工况叶顶不同轴向位置进行了动态压力信号测量试验,采用自相关分析和方差分析算法对试验数据进行了对比分析。结果表明,该压气机为突尖型失速,在叶顶前缘附近能明显感受到失速先兆信号,自相关分析监测到失速先兆信号的时间明显早于方差分析,可更有效的达到失速预警的作用。     

环片数量对环帆伞气动性能的影响

为探究环片数量对环帆伞气动性能的影响,文章基于 CFD方法对某环帆伞流场开展了定常三维数值模拟,采用有限体积法求解不可压缩 Navier-Stokes控制方程来模拟外部流场,获得了该伞的气动参数与绕流流场分布。通过数值结果与空投试验结果对比,验证了数值方法的准确性。在不改变伞衣名义面积和环帆高度比的前提下,分别针对定结构透气量和变结构透气量开展了环片数量对气动性能的影响研究,结果表明:定结构透气性下,环片数量对伞衣阻力性能和气动静稳定性的影响很小;变结构透气性下,环片数量通过影响透气量、尾涡分布等因素进一步影响环帆伞稳定性。上述结果对环帆伞的设计有一定参考意义。
