Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Overview: The Instrument Suite and Mission   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6  
NASA’s Lunar Precursor Robotic Program (LPRP), formulated in response to the President’s Vision for Space Exploration, will execute a series of robotic missions that will pave the way for eventual permanent human presence on the Moon. The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) is first in this series of LPRP missions, and plans to launch in October of 2008 for at least one year of operation. LRO will employ six individual instruments to produce accurate maps and high-resolution images of future landing sites, to assess potential lunar resources, and to characterize the radiation environment. LRO will also test the feasibility of one advanced technology demonstration package. The LRO payload includes: Lunar Orbiter Laser Altimeter (LOLA) which will determine the global topography of the lunar surface at high resolution, measure landing site slopes, surface roughness, and search for possible polar surface ice in shadowed regions, Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera (LROC) which will acquire targeted narrow angle images of the lunar surface capable of resolving meter-scale features to support landing site selection, as well as wide-angle images to characterize polar illumination conditions and to identify potential resources, Lunar Exploration Neutron Detector (LEND) which will map the flux of neutrons from the lunar surface to search for evidence of water ice, and will provide space radiation environment measurements that may be useful for future human exploration, Diviner Lunar Radiometer Experiment (DLRE) which will chart the temperature of the entire lunar surface at approximately 300 meter horizontal resolution to identify cold-traps and potential ice deposits, Lyman-Alpha Mapping Project (LAMP) which will map the entire lunar surface in the far ultraviolet. LAMP will search for surface ice and frost in the polar regions and provide images of permanently shadowed regions illuminated only by starlight. Cosmic Ray Telescope for the Effects of Radiation (CRaTER), which will investigate the effect of galactic cosmic rays on tissue-equivalent plastics as a constraint on models of biological response to background space radiation. The technology demonstration is an advanced radar (mini-RF) that will demonstrate X- and S-band radar imaging and interferometry using light weight synthetic aperture radar. We will review analytical and numerical efforts in modelling the influence of curvature on coronal loop oscillations. We will mainly focus our attention on fast kink mode oscillations. A curved slab model will be presented, where it becomes clear that curvature introduces wave leakage into the system, because of changes in the equilibrium. The importance of leakage will be assessed through the use of a slab and cylindrical model where lateral leakage is allowed. A full analytical model for a semi-toroidal loop will be constructed for a system with no leaking waves but with an inhomogeneous layer that introduces damping due to the process of resonant absorption. The model for a semi-toroidal loop will be extended to also include leakage, and will be studied numerically. The numerical results will be compared to the analytical model.  相似文献

The Imager for Magnetopause-to-Aurora Global Exploration (IMAGE) will produce forefront science by quantifying the response of the magnetosphere to the time variable solar wind. It will acquire, for the first time, a variety of three-dimensional images of magnetospheric boundaries and plasma distributions extending from the magnetopause to the inner plasmasphere. The images will be produced on time scales needed to answer important questions about the interactions of the solar wind and the magnetosphere. The IMAGE team will provide open access to all IMAGE data. Thus there will be no proprietary rights or periods. All IMAGE data products will be archived and available to the scientific research community. The IMAGE mission will operate with a near 100% duty cycle with all instruments in their baseline operational modes. A Science and Mission Operations Control Center or SMOC has been developed at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) to be the main data and command processing system for IMAGE. The IMAGE Level-0 data will be processed into Level 0.5 and Level-1 data and browse products within 24 hours after their receipt of raw data in the SMOC. These data products will be transferred to the NSSDC, for long-term archiving, and posted immediately on the world-wide-web for use by the international scientific community and the public.  相似文献

Integrated electronics or microelectronics is one of today's major technical frontiers. Possibilities offered to the designer of avionics subsystems, for aerospace vehicles, by these techniques, are almost limitless, from the point of view of performance capabilities as well as reliability and maintainability. Application will change current engineering practices in avionics design. Some changes will be easy; in others, problems will appear. This paper discusses these changes, indicating potential gains to be expected as well as potential problem areas. The rise in the application of integrated electronics is expected to be high for the next 10 to 15 years. By 1980, integrated circuitry will have largely replaced the use of discrete components, and the rate-of-increase-of-application curves will level off.  相似文献

 在分析了世界上先进的大型民机发展和研究计划后,分析和总结了大型民用飞机结构技术发展的总体趋势。介绍了用于先进大型飞机中选材、结构设计、先进的制造技术、机构强度分析、防雷击技术的现状和趋势。结论是复合材料将代替金属结构,而金属结构的设计、制造也将随之发展,以解决采用复合材料带来的新挑战;先进的数字化结构设计和仿真正代替传统的图纸设计。相应的分析和仿真工具如CFD等将应用到数字化设计中,在新型飞机设计中,将大大减少试验并改善质量;一些新概念的结构将广泛应用到飞机结构中,如智能材料结构在机翼上的应用,以改善空气动力、飞机的气动弹性控制和结构的健康监控。  相似文献

Junocam is a wide-angle camera designed to capture the unique polar perspective of Jupiter offered by Juno’s polar orbit. Junocam’s four-color images include the best spatial resolution ever acquired of Jupiter’s cloudtops. Junocam will look for convective clouds and lightning in thunderstorms and derive the heights of the clouds. Junocam will support Juno’s radiometer experiment by identifying any unusual atmospheric conditions such as hotspots. Junocam is on the spacecraft explicitly to reach out to the public and share the excitement of space exploration. The public is an essential part of our virtual team: amateur astronomers will supply ground-based images for use in planning, the public will weigh in on which images to acquire, and the amateur image processing community will help process the data.  相似文献

200m自由飞弹道靶是国内唯一一座具备开展气动力、气动物理、材料抗粒子云侵蚀及超高速碰撞等地面试验研究的综合性弹道靶设备。为满足高超声速飞行器发展的进一步需求,2009年起气动中心对200m 自由飞弹道靶进行了升级改造,升级设备包括发射器系统、靶室/真空系统、测控系统、模型姿态测量系统等。改造后的发射器系统将新增203mm和120mm口径二级轻气炮,具备0.5~30kg模型发射速度0.3~5km/s 的发射能力;靶室由原来的Ф1.5m洞体升级至Ф3m洞体,同时配备新的真空设备,实现0~80km高度模拟;测控系统将扩大测试视场以满足大模型测控需要;模型姿态测量系统除阴/纹影照相系统外,还将新增双目前光成像定位系统、脉冲X射线成像测量系统等测试设备。改造后的200m自由飞弹道靶将成为大中小口径发射器配套齐全,兼具气动力特性、材料抗粒子云侵蚀、高速/超高速碰撞等试验能力的综合性弹道靶设备。  相似文献

利用水力系数(CADE)的性质和现有液体火箭发动机管路系统中压力域流量的测量值,进行适当分段组合,计算出相应的压力和水力系统改变量。并根据实际试车经验确定出相应的根限值。同时使用灰色理论中GM预测模型对发动机的监测参数进行预测。从而及早分析出发动机所处工况。该算法能尽早地探测出发动机系统中出现的故障,以提供足够的时间对发动机采取措施。  相似文献

If not, you soon will, IEEE 1394, or Firewire, is an up-and-coming electronics industry standard that will soon be in wide use for interconnecting a massive variety of electronic equipment. It will be used for connecting CD-ROMs and scanners to computers, and it will be used for connecting VCRs, DVDs and satellite dishes to digital televisions. How does this affect Test & Measurement? This paper discusses Firewire, along with it's lower-end companion, USE, and how they can and will be utilized in T&M applications to replace T&M specific technologies, such as IEEE 488, and MXI. Today's aircraft use ultra-reliable real-time controls for demanding functions such as Fly-By-Wire (FBW) flight control. Future aircraft, spacecraft and other vehicles will require greater use of these types of controls for functions that currently are allowed to fail, fail to degraded operation, or require human intervention in response to failure. Fully automated and autonomous functions will require ultra-reliable control. But ultra-reliable systems are very expensive to design and require large amounts of on-board equipment. This paper will discuss how the use of low-cost sensors with digital outputs, digitally commanded fault-tolerant actuation devices and interconnecting networks of low-cost data buses offer the promise of more affordable ultra-reliable systems. Specific technologies and concepts to be discussed include low-cost automotive and industrial data buses, “smart” actuation devices with integral fault masking capabilities, management of redundant sensors, and the fault detection and diagnosis of the data network. The advantages of integrating the control and distribution of electrical power with the control system will be illustrated. The design, installation, and upgrade flexibility benefits provided by an all-digital and shared network approach will be presented. The economic benefits of systems that can operate following failure and without immediate repair will be reviewed. The inherent ability of these redundant systems to provide effective built-in test and self-diagnostics capabilities will be described. The challenges associated with developing ultra-reliable software for these systems and the difficulties associated with exhaustive verification testing will be presented as will additional development hurdles that must be overcome  相似文献

Since long ULF waves are known to play a dominant role in the dynamics of energetic protons. Recent observations have shown that they also contribute to the heating and/or acceleration of both heavy ions and electrons. This review will deal with all the aspects of wave particle interactions that involve electromagnetic ULF waves in the equatorial region of the magnetosphere. We will consider successively Pc-3-4-5 pulsations, magnetosonic waves and ion cyclotron waves. In the latter case, for which both the experimental data and the theoretical interpretation are more advanced, we will discuss the linear, quasi-linear and nonlinear aspects of the interaction. Results of recent numerical simulations of this type of interaction will also be reported. A final section will be devoted to ULF waves observed in the vicinity of the Io torus.  相似文献

The Cluster ground segment design and mission operations concept have been defined according to the basic mission requirements, namely, to allow the transfer of the four spacecraft from the initial geostationary transfer orbit achieved at separation from the launcher into the final highly elliptical polar orbits, such that in the areas of scientific interest along their orbits, the four spacecraft will form a tetrahedral configuration with pre-defined separation distances, to be changed every six months during the mission. The Cluster mission operations will be carried out by ESA from its European Space Operations Centre; the task of merging the Principal Investigators' requests into coordinated, regular scientific mission planning inputs to ESOC will be undertaken by the Joint Science Operations Centre. The mission products will be distributed to the scientific community regularly in form of CD-ROMs. Principal Investigators will also have access to quick-look science, housekeeping telemetry and auxiliary data via an electronic network.  相似文献

For decades, wind tunnel testing has been conducted in test section environments that have not been adequately or consistently documented. Since wind tunnel flow quality can adversely affect test results, accurate and consistent flow quality measurements are required, along with an understanding of the sources, characteristics, and management of flow turbulence. This paper will review turbulence measurement techniques and data obtained in subsonic, transonic, and supersonic test facilities as they relate to the determination and assessment of wind tunnel flow quality. The principles and practical application of instrumentation used in the measurement and characterization of wind tunnel turbulence will be described. Techniques used for the identification of the sources of wind tunnel disturbances, and the performance of turbulence suppression devices will be outlined. These test techniques will be illustrated with extensive measurements obtained in a number of test facilities. The measurements will provide comprehensive turbulence data that are vital to the assessment and management of flow quality. Procedures designed to assess the potential influence of adverse flow quality on wind tunnel model test performance will also be discussed.  相似文献

The experimental basis of cosmic-ray astrophysics consists of detailed measurements of the cosmic-ray intensity arriving near earth, of observations of photons in all wavelength bands generated by cosmic ray interactions in the interstellar medium or in the cosmic-ray sources, and of laboratory studies of high energy particle interactions. In addition, a large body of astronomical information on the composition of stellar atmospheres and of the interstellar medium, including interstellar dust grains, is required to bring cosmic-ray data into context with subjects such as nucleosynthesis and evolution of the galaxy. This report will summarize some of these observational questions, will discuss specific experimental needs in current research, and will review some of the key measurements that can be expected for the near future. This review will neither be complete nor attempt to establish observational priorities. However, it will illustrate the variety of observational activities that are required to achieve progress.  相似文献

The OSIRIS-REx mission will conduct a Radio Science investigation of the asteroid Bennu with a primary goal of estimating the mass and gravity field of the asteroid. The spacecraft will conduct proximity operations around Bennu for over 1 year, during which time radiometric tracking data, optical landmark tracking images, and altimetry data will be obtained that can be used to make these estimates. Most significantly, the main Radio Science experiment will be a 9-day arc of quiescent operations in a 1-km nominally circular terminator orbit. The pristine data from this arc will allow the Radio Science team to determine the significant components of the gravity field up to the fourth spherical harmonic degree. The Radio Science team will also be responsible for estimating the surface accelerations, surface slopes, constraints on the internal density distribution of Bennu, the rotational state of Bennu to confirm YORP estimates, and the ephemeris of Bennu that incorporates a detailed model of the Yarkovsky effect.  相似文献

风雨严重影响飞机的飞行安全。基于动量定理建立了一种根据降雨条件、风场特性、飞机特征和飞行状态计算雨滴对飞机产生的撞击力和力矩的方法,研究了风雨对飞机气动特性的影响,进而建立了飞机在风雨中飞行的运动方程。通过引入驾驶员的操纵模型,对飞机在风雨中飞行的运动特性进行了数值仿真研究。仿真结果表明:降雨会使飞机的升力减小,阻力增大,平衡迎角增加,不利于飞机的飞行安全;当降雨过程中伴随有风时,风会改变飞机的飞行迎角,使得飞机更容易出现因失速而造成的飞行事故;降雨时飞机的抗风能力降低。  相似文献

ROLIS (Rosetta Lander Imaging System) is one of the two imaging systems carried by Rosetta’s Lander Philae, successfully launched to comet 67P/ Churyumov-Gerasimenko in March 2004. Consisting of a highly-miniaturized CCD camera, ROLIS will operate as a descent imager, acquiring imagery of the landing site with increasing spatial resolution. After touchdown ROLIS will focus at an object distance of 30 cm, taking pictures of the comet’s surface below the Lander. Multispectral imaging is achieved through an illumination device consisting of four arrays of monochromatic light emitting diodes working in the 470, 530, 640 and 870 nm spectral bands. The drill sample sites, as well as the Alpha X-Ray Spectrometer (APXS) target locations will be imaged to provide context for the measurements performed by the in situ analyzers. After the drilling operation, the borehole will be inspected to study its morphology and to search for stratification. Taking advantage of the Lander’s rotation capability, stereo image pairs will be acquired, which will facilitate the mapping and identification of surface structures.  相似文献
