We discuss a class of microwave flares whose source regions exhibit a distinctive spatial configuration; the primaryenergy release in these flares results from the interaction between emerging magnetic flux and an existing overlying region. Such events typically exhibit radio, X-ray and EUV emission at the main flare site (the site of interaction) and in addition radio emission at a remote site up to 1 × 105 km away in another active region. We have identified and studied more than a dozen microwave flares in this class, in order to arrive at some general conclusions on reconnection and energy release in such solar flares. Typically, these flares show a gradual rise showing many subsidiary peaks in both radio and hard X-ray light curves with a quasi-oscillatory nature with periods of 5–6 seconds, a bright compact X-ray & EUV emitting loop in the main flare source, a delay of the radio emission from the remote source relative to the main X-ray-emitting source. The magnetic field in the main flare site changes sharply at the time of the flare, and the remote site appears to be magnetically connected to the main flare site.  相似文献

The GOES X3.9 flare on 03 November 2003 at ∼09:45 UT was observed from metric to millimetric wavelengths by the Nançay Radioheliograph (NRH), the Radio Solar Telescope Network (RSTN) and by radio instruments operated by the Institute of Applied Physics (University of Bern). This flare was simultaneously observed and imaged up to several 100 keV by the RHESSI experiment. The time profile of the X-ray emission above 100 keV and of the radio emissions shows two main parts, impulsive emission lasting about 3 min and long duration emission (partially observed by RHESSI) separated in time by 4 min. We shall focus here on the modulations of the broad-band radio continua and of the X-ray emissions observed in the second part of the flare. The observations suggest that gyrosynchrotron emission is the prevailing emission mechanism even at decimetric wavelengths for the broad-band radio emission. Following this interpretation, we deduce the density and the magnetic field of the decimetric sources and briefly comment on possible interpretations of the modulations.  相似文献

Initial results of a combined study of electron events using the 3DP experiment on the WIND spacecraftand the Nançay Radioheliograph (NRH) are presented. A total of 57 electron events whose solar release time could be inferred from WIND/3DP observations occurred during NRH observing times. In 40 of them a distinct signature was detected in maps at decimetric and metric wavelengths (dm-m-λ) taken by the NRH. These events are equally distributed among two categories: (1) Electron release together with dm-m-λ bursts of a few minutes duration: these events are also accompanied by decametric-hectometric type III bursts seen by WAVES/WIND. They correspond to the well-known impulsive electron events. (2) Electron release during long duration (several tens of minutes) dm-m-λ emission: the electrons are most often released more than ten minutes after the start of the radio event. In the majority of cases the dm-m-λ radio source changes position, size, and/or intensity near the time of electron release.  相似文献

Very Large Array (VLA) observations at 20 and 91 cm wavelength are compared with data from the SOHO (EIT and MDI) and RHESSI solar missions to investigate the evolution of decimetric Type I noise storms and Type III bursts and related magnetic activity in the photosphere and corona. The combined data sets provide clues about the mechanisms that initiate and sustain the decimetric bursts and about interactions between thermal and nonthermal plasmas at different locations in the solar atmosphere. On one day, frequent, low-level hard X-ray flaring observed by RHESSI appears to have had no clear affect on the evolution of two closely-spaced Type I noise storm sources lying above the target active region. EIT images however, indicate nearly continuous restructuring of the underlying EUV loops which, through accompanying low-level magnetic reconnection, might give rise to nonthermal particles and plasma turbulence that sustain the long-lasting Type I burst emission. On another day, the onset of an impulsive hard X-ray burst and subsequent decimetric burst emission followed the gradual displacement and coalescence of a small patch of magnetic magnetic polarity with a pre-existing area of mixed magnetic polarity. The time delay of the impulsive 20 and 91 cm bursts by up to 20 min suggests that these events were unlikely to represent the main sites of flare electron acceleration, but instead are related to the rearrangement of the coronal magnetic field after the main flare at lower altitude. Although the X-ray flare is associated with the decimetric burst, the brightness and structure of a long-lasting Type I noise storm from the same region was not affected by the flare. This suggests that the reconfiguration of the coronal magnetic fields and the subsequent energy release that gave rise to the impulsive burst emission did not significantly perturb that part of the corona where the noise storm emission was located.  相似文献

We propose a jet model for the low/hard state of galactic black-hole X-ray sources which explains the energy spectra from radio to X-rays and a number of timing properties in the X-ray domain such as the time lag spectra, the hardening of the power density spectra and the narrowing of the autocorrelation function with increasing photon energy. The model assumes that (i) there is a magnetic field along the axis of the jet, (ii) the electron density in the jet drops inversely proportional to distance, (iii) the jet is “hotter” near its center than at its periphery, and (iv) the electrons in the jet follow a power-law distribution function. We have performed Monte Carlo simulations of Compton upscattering of soft photons from the accretion disk and have found power-law high-energy spectra with photon-number index in the range 1.5–2 and cutoff at a few hundred keV, power-law time lags versus Fourier frequency with index 0.8, and an increase of the rms amplitude of variability and a narrowing of the autocorrelation function with increasing photon energy as they have been observed in Cygnus X-1. The spectrum at long wavelengths (radio, infrared, optical) is modeled to come from synchrotron radiation of the energetic electrons in the jet. We find flat to inverted radio spectra that extend from the radio up to about the optical band. For magnetic field strengths of the order 105–106 G at the base of the jet, the calculated spectra agree well in slope and flux with the observations.  相似文献

We report on the evolution in the X-ray spectrum of the transient X-ray pulsar EXO 2030+375 during part of an outburst in 1985 May–August. The overall continuum spectral shape is similar to that of other accreting pulsars and can be represented by a power-law spectrum modified at low energies by significant absorption and at high-energies either by an exponential cut-off or by the effects of cyclotron scattering. As the luminosity decreased by a factor 100, the X-ray spectrum became harder with the photon index decreasing from 1.83 ± 0.01 to 1.29 ± 0.01. In addition, the high-energy cutoff decreased from 20 to 10 keV during the same interval. If the cutoff is interpreted in terms of cyclotron resonance scattering, then this implies a magnetic field strength that decreased from 2.6 × 1012 G to 1.3 × 1012 G. This variation implies that the cutoff energy does not provide a reliable measure of the surface magnetic field strength in this system.  相似文献

More than 20 years ago V.P. Shabansky suggested that the magnetic system installed aboard the satellite, could be used as a physical instrument for studying the processes which occur in the near Earth space. The corresponding space scales of an artificial “magnetosphere”—“magnisphere”—are 10 m in the experiment with relatively small magnets in the ionosphere and 100 m in the solar wind. The corresponding similarity criteria are estimated. The possible scheme of the experiment with a superconducting magnet (magnetic moment 105 A · m2) installed aboard the satellite is considered. The experimental complex includes a number of systems for measuring the fluxes of charged particles in a wide energy range, DC electric and magnetic fields, the electromagnetic fields in different frequency bands (from X-rays to radio). The scientific objectives are discussed in detail.  相似文献

Strong interplanetary scintillations (IPS) of the quasar 2314+03 were recorded at 103 MHz at Thaltej-Ahmedabad, India with a transit type correlation interferometer on 18, 19 and 20 December 1985, as the radio source was predicted to be occulted by the ion tail of the comet Halley.

On 18th through 20th very strong scintillations, with periodicities of 1 sec average were observed, their amplitude progressively decreasing as the source approached the tail-end. The rms variations of scintillating flux of the source on 18, 19 & 20 were about 18, 11 & 4.7 Jy, as against 3.3 Jy on control days 17 and 21 December for solar elongation of 87°.

Assuming Gaussian irregularities with weak scattering, the rms density variations, ΔN, of 10, 6, 3 and 1 elec./cm3 on 18 through 21 December, from the comet nucleus towards its tail-end, varied as (ΔN) ∝ r−3.3 as against (ΔN) ∝ r−2 in the solar plasma.

Quasi-periodic modulations of the enhanced scintillating flux possibly imply 104 km scale-size ion condensations and mean electron density of 103 to 104 electrons/cm3 in the Halley's plasma tail.  相似文献

We present an analysis of five microflares, three observed simultaneously by RHESSI in hard X-rays and Nobeyama RadioHeliograph (NoRH) in microwaves (17 GHz) and two observed by RHESSI and Nancay RadioHeliograph (NRH) at metric wavelengths (150–450 MHz). Since we have no radio imaging telescopes simultaneously operating at microwave and meter wavelengths in the same time zone, we are obliged to use a different set of metric events in contrast to that used for comparison with the two radio wavelengths. We are interested in using the locations and other imaging characteristics of the events from both RHESSI and radio observations instead of just temporal correlation. So we have used the Nancay (France) metric radioheliograph at 150–450 MHz for this purpose. Here we describe the properties of five events – three in microwaves and two at metric wavelengths. We discuss the brightness temperatures, emission measures and the hard X-ray spectral properties of these microevents. One sees small (mini) flaring loops clearly in NoRH and RHESSI images. The microwave emission often seems to come from the RHESSI foot points (for higher energies), and from the entire small (mini) flaring loop (for lower energies). The RHESSI microflares seem to be associated in position with metric type III bursts. Frequently, the hard X-ray spectrum of the microwave associated RHESSI microflares can be fit by a thermal component at low energies (∼3–12 keV) and a nonthermal component at higher energies (∼12–20 keV).  相似文献

The SOHO (SOlar and Heliospheric Observatory) satellite was launched on December 2nd 1995. After arriving at the Earth-Sun (L1) Lagrangian point on February 14th 1996, it began to continuously observe the Sun. As one of the instruments onboard SOHO, the EIT (Extreme ultraviolet Imaging Telescope) images the Sun's corona in 4 EUV wavelengths. The He II filter at 304 Å images the chromosphere and the base of the transition region at a temperature of 5 − 8 × 104 K; the Fe IX–X filter at 171 Å images the corona at a temperature of 1.3 × 106 K; the Fe XII filter at 195 Å images the quiet corona outside coronal holes at a temperature of 1.6 × 106 K; and the Fe XV filter at 284 Å images active regions with a temperature of 2.0 × 106 K. About 5000 images have been obtained up to the present. In this paper, we describe also some aspects of the telescope and the detector performance for application in the observations. Images and movies of all the wavelengths allow a look at different phenomena present in the Sun's corona, and in particular, magnetic field reconnection.  相似文献

An overview is presented of electrons, protons and heavier ions (E > 20 keV) recorded by the energetic particle detector EPONA in the Comet Halley environment, 12–15 March, 1986. Pick-up ions were detected at distances of up to at least 7.5 × 106 km from the nucleus. Estimates of the energies that typical cometary ions may be expected to acquire from the solar wind pertaining at Encounter show that the pick-up process is insufficient to account for the energies of the particles detected. An additional mechanism must thus be postulated to account for the observed particle signatures. Preliminary correlations with magnetic and plasma wave data from other instruments suggest that the presence of MHD turbulence at several million kilometers upstream of the bowshock may have contributed to the acceleration of the first pick-up ions observed. The bowshock boundary (inbound) does not appear to have constituted a location where particle acceleration to high energies took place. Downstream of the shock boundary, hardening of the energy spectrum and the development of less anisotropic particle streaming was observed to occur when the spacecraft was in a turbulent environment 1 × 106 km from the nucleus. The waxing influence of mass loading as a mechanism for reducing energetic particle fluxes as well as the depletion of energetic ions due to their escape along open field lines and to charge exchange collision with neutrals in a progressively more stagnant solar wind, may be inferred in a regime (seen on the magnetometer data to be largely non-turbulent) traversed by the spacecraft from 5 × 105 km from the nucleus to within the magnetic pile-up region. A major burst of ions and electrons (not yet established to be of cometary origin) occurred when the spacecraft was close to the Contact Surface. A population of high energy electrons (from 180 keV to at least 300 keV) was detected for about one hour before Closest Approach and for several hours thereafter. Also an energetic beam of electrons was identified exiting from a location at about 1 × 106 km from the nucleus (outbound). Finally, differences between inbound and outbound particle signatures are described.  相似文献

Based on the ion, electron and neutral gas observations, performed by five of the six sensors comprising the PLASMAG-1 experiment on board VEGA-1 and -2, the following results are discussed: (1) the existence of the bow shock and its location at 1.1×106 km for VEGA-1 inbound; (2) the existence of a cometopause and its location at 1.6×105 km for VEGA-2 inbound; (3) the plasma dynamical processes occurring inside the cometosheath; (4) the phenomena taking place within the cometary plasma region including mass-spectroscopy of cometary ions at distances 1.5×104 km; (5) the existence of keV electrons near closest approach to the nucleus; and (6) the radial dependence of the cometary neutral gas and the comparison with model calculations, yielding a mean ionization scale length of 2×106 km and an overall production rate of 1.3×1030 molecules s−1 for VEGA-1 inbound. The results are also discussed in the context of the other, both remote and in-situ, observations, performed on board the VEGA- and GIOTTO-spacecraft.  相似文献

First results of pointed and All Sky Survey observations of galaxies with the X-ray observatory satellite ROSAT are reported. During observations of the Magellanic Clouds and the Andromeda galaxy new super-soft X-ray sources have been detected. This new class of luminous X-ray sources may help to solve the millisecond pulsar progenitor problem. Due to the improved sensitivity and longer observation times of ROSAT new X-ray point sources have been resolved in several nearby galaxies. The diffuse emission of the LMC that was already reported by EINSTEIN has been mapped in detail. It shows a lot of fine structure and temperatures around 5 × 106 K. The improved low energy response of ROSAT led to the discovery of 106 K gas from the spiral galaxy M101 and the halo of the starburst galaxy NGC 253. No diffuse emission was detected from the halo of the edge-on spiral galaxy NGC 5907.  相似文献

The energy content of nonthermal particles in solar flares is shared between accelerated electrons and ions. It isimportant for understanding the particle acceleration mechanism in solar flares. Yohkoh observed a few intense flares which produced both strong gamma-ray lines and electron bremsstrahlung continuum. We analyze energy spectra of X-class solar flares on October 27, 1991(X6.1), November 6, 1997 (X9.4), July 14, 2000 (X5.7) and November 24, 2000 (X2.3). The accelerated electron and proton spectra are derived from a spectral analysis of their high-energy photon emission and the energy contents in >1 MeV electrons and >10 MeV protons are estimated to be 6×l028 – 4×1030 and 2×1028 – 5×1029 erg, respectively. We study the flare to flare variation in the energy content of >1 MeV electrons and >10 MeV protons for the four Yohkoh gamma-ray flares. Ratios of >1 MeV electron energy content to >10 MeV proton energy content are roughly within an order of magnitude.  相似文献

ROSAT HRI images were obtained for two clusters of galaxies which contain strong cooling flows, A2029 and 2A0335+096. These observations confirm that gas is cooling at rates of in A2029 and in 2A0335+096. In both clusters, the X-ray emission from the inner cooling flow regions (r 100 kpc) is very inhomogeneous, with the X-ray surface brightness being dominated by a number of X-ray emitting filaments. Using the crude spectral resolution of the HRI, we show that these filaments are the result of excess emission, rather than foreground X-ray absorption. Although there are uncertainties in the pointing, many of the X-ray features in the cooling flow region of 2A0335+096 correspond to features in H optical line emission. This indicates that the 104 K gas originates through the cooling of hot X-ray emitting gas. The gas is the filaments is too dense to be in hydrostatic equilibrium, and it is likely that other forces such as rotation, turbulence, and magnetic fields influence the dynamical state of the gas. The filaments may be supported in part by magnetic fields and may be connected with the filaments of very strong Faraday rotation seen in several nearly cooling flows.  相似文献

I discuss morphology and spectrum of the first resolved and detected classical nova shell in the X-rays – the remnant of GK Persei (1901). The existence of such a nebulosity brings about the possibility of other nova remnants emitting X-rays. I calculate that the X-ray luminosity should be about 1026–1033 ergs s−1 on the onset of cooling for nova remnants. I have done an archival search on 250 classical and recurrent nova candidates using Chandra, XMM-Newton, ROSAT and ASCA databases. There is no significant extended emission detected which places an upper limit of Fx < × 10−12 erg s−1 cm−2 (unabsorbed). Only exceptions are GK Per, RR Pic and DQ Her (all observed by Chandra ACIS-S and GK Per also by ROSAT HRI) where the latter two show marginal extended emission in the X-rays associated with emission knots (DQ Her) or an equatorial ring (RR Pic).  相似文献

Spatial distribution of the continuum radiation in the range of 0.95–1.9 μm presumes total dust production rate of the comet of 10ρ tonne s−1 (ρ is the dust material density) and its angular distribution proportional cos . Observations of the water vapor band at 1.38 μ m reveal strong jets, their time shift from the dust jet measured in situ is consistent with gas velocity of 0.82±0.1 km s−1 and dust velocity of 0.55±0.08 km s−1. The OH vibrational-rotational bands observed are excided directly via photolysis of water vapor. Water vapor production rate deduced from the H2O band and OH band intensities is 8×1029 s−1. Intensity of the CN(0,0) band result in the CN column density of 9×1012 cm−2, i.e. larger by a factor of 3 than given by the violet band.  相似文献

We report on the luminosity dependent change of the cyclotron resonance energy obtained from a transient X-ray pulsar, 4U 0115+63. Using RXTE data observed on 1999 March, we found that the fundamental resonance energy stayed constant (11 keV) when the source luminosity was above 5 × 1037 erg s−1. As the luminosity decreased below 5 × 1037 erg s−1, the fundamental resonance energy gradually increased up to 16 keV at 0.16 × 1037 erg s−1. The luminosity dependence of the resonance energy can be understood by the change of the accretion column height.  相似文献

A small number of early Be stars exhibit X-ray luminosities intermediate between those typical of early type stars and those radiated by Be/X-ray binaries in the quiescent state. We report on XMM-Newton observations of two such Be stars, HD 161103 and SAO 49725 which were originally discovered in a systematic cross-correlation between the ROSAT all-sky survey and SIMBAD. The new observations confirm the X-ray luminosity detected by ROSAT (LX  1032 erg s−1) and the hardness of their X-ray spectra (thin thermal with kT  8–10 keV or power law with photon index of 1.7) which are both unusual for normal early type stars. We discuss the possible origin of this excess X-ray emission in the light of the models proposed for γ-Cas, magnetic disc-star interaction or accretion onto a compact companion object, neutron star or white dwarf, and compare the properties of these two sources with those of the new massive systems discovered in the XMM- Newton/SSC survey of the Galactic plane.  相似文献

We present our research on a fast and decelerating partial halo coronal mass ejection (CME) event detected in multi-wavelengths in the chromosphere and the corona on 14 October, 1999. The event involved a whole complex active area which spanned more than 40° of heliolongitude. It included a strong solar flare (XI/1N) and a complex eruptive filament within an active region of the entire complex. Especially, several radio sources were detected in the decimetric range prior to the CME by the Nançay Radioheliograph (NRH). A linear force-free field extrapolation of the Michelson Doppler Imager (MDI) magnetogram was performed to calculate the magnetic topology of the complex prior to the triggering of the event. The presence of a coronal null point combined with the occurrence of two distant and nearly simultaneous radio sources put strong arguments in favor of the generalized breakout model for the triggering of the eruption. The analysis of the subsequent development of the event suggests that large interconnecting loops were ejected together with the CME.  相似文献
