Achievements and Future Actions of Space Debris Research in China

JOINING IADCSpace debris (also called or bital debris) is offals produced accidentally and deliberately while people are carrying out space activities and are no longer serving any function. It is the main pollution sources of the space environment. The space debris may stay in space for a long time and generate new smaller space debris because of its breakup caused by explosions and collision which then increase the threat to space vehicles, especially to manned space fliahts.

On September 21,1992, the feasibility report on implementing China’s Manned Spaceflight Project was approved and a three-step development strategy was also determined. From then on, China’s Manned Spaceflight Project has developed rapidly.     

Planning for China’s Manned Space Station Announced

The fourth CAST Space Technology Forum was held on November 29, 2012 with the theme of Progress of China’s Manned Space Station Project. Scientists, experts and government officials gathered to discuss the scheme, technical issues of the project, which consists of thirteen systems. CASC is in charge of the construction of seven systems through its subsidiaries. CALT is assigned to the building of LM-2F, LM-5 and LM-7 launch vehicles and CAST is assigned to the R&D of a space laboratory,

Chang’e 2 Hits 20 Million Kilometers Milestone

The Chang’e 2 satellite, developed and launched by CASC, has travelled deeper into outer space at about 20 million km from the Earth, marking a new breakthrough in the ability of the nation’s lunar and deep space exploration project. The probe is now continuing its deep space travel under normal conditions. CASC undertook the development and launch of lunar satellite and launch vehicle for the nation’s lunar exploration program. On October 24, 2007, the first indigenously developed lunar exploration satellite, Chang’e 1, was launched into space successfully. Chang’e 2 was put into orbit on October 1, 2010 from the Xichang Satellite     

CASC President Commenting on China’s Major Space Programs

CASC President Ma Xingrui was interviewed by a Hong Kong magazine recently and talked about the prospects of China’s major space projects. Mr. Ma is the deputy Commander-in-Chief of China’s Manned Space Program, Commander-in-Chief of China’s Lunar Exploration Program, and Commander-in-Chief of China’s new-generation launch vehicles. Mr. Ma said that the LM-5 launch vehicle, with LEO loading capacity of 25t, will carry out its maiden flight around the end of 2014.
