The black hole candidate Cygnus X-1 was observed in the hard X ray - soft γ ray energy range by the MISO telescope on two different occasions: in September 1979 and May 1980. We have measured two hard X-ray states of the source: in 1979 the observed spectrum confirms the superlow state measured in the same period by the HEAO-3 satellite, while in 1980 the MISO X-ray data are consistent with the so called low state of Cygnus X-1. In both occasions, no γ -ray excess has been observed above 200 KeV.  相似文献

HAKUCHO observation of Cyg X-2 over 40 days did not show a correlation between the hardness ratio and the intensity predicted for dwarf X-ray sources. The energy spectrum in the range 0.3 – 20 keV was found to deviate from the thermal bremsstrahlung spectrum below 2 keV. The X-ray spectrum can be accounted for in terms of the comptonization of blackbody radiation emitted from teh neutron star surface and the accretion disk.  相似文献

Hard X-ray observations of Cyg X-3 in the energy range 20–100 keV were made with a Balloon-borne telescope using two large area proportional counters. The source was seen with a total significance of 20.

A 121 s periodicity was seen during Fourier analysis of the data. The phenomenon can be interpreted as due to transient pulsation since no other peak was seen in our data. Quasi-periodic oscillation in the range 0.06–20 mHz have been observed from Cyg X-3 at lower energies. Interestingly, most of the reported periods are multiple of the present measurements. The observed pulsation at high energies indicate the occasional unstable behaviour of the inner parts of the accretion disk connected with the basic rotation period of the compact object.

The 4.8h modulation, characteristic of the orbital period of the binary system was seen in the data, with a broad maximum between the phase 0.3 to 0.7.  相似文献

We present examples of the quasi-periodic variations in the X-ray flux of Cyg X-3 which we have recently found during observations of this source with EXOSAT. Amplitudes and periods of the variations range from 5% to 20% of the total flux and from 50 to 1500 s, respectively. Our tentative interpretation of these quasi-periodicities, the occurrence of quasi-periodic phenomena in an accretion disk which partially occults the X-ray source, points towards an analogy of Cyg X-3 with certain ‘dipping’ low-mass X-ray binaries such as 4U 1822-37, as suggested /1/ previously. We point out, however, that there are also fundamental differences between Cyg X-3 and this type of low-mass X-ray binary.  相似文献

We present preliminary results of a simultaneous X-ray/optical campaign of the prototypical LMXB Sco X-1 at 1–10 Hz time resolution. Lightcurves of the high excitation Bowen/HeII emission lines and a red continuum at λc  6000 Å were obtained through narrow interference filters with ULTRACAM, and these were cross-correlated with simultaneous RXTE X-ray lightcurves. We find evidence for correlated variability, in particular when Sco X-1 enters the Flaring branch. The Bowen/HeII lightcurves lag the X-ray lightcurves with a light travel time which is consistent with reprocessing in the companion star while the continuum lightcurves have shorter delays consistent with reprocessing in the accretion disc.  相似文献

GX 1+4 is an X-ray pulsar with a nominal period of 2 or 4 min. and has the highest of 0.22 yr−1 among the X-ray pulsars. The source is identified with an optical counterpart V2116 Oph, however no binary period has been reported so far. There are several features of the source like , variable pulse shape, period history and the spectral changes which do not fit well with our present understanding of the source.

The radio observation of the galactic center region were made using Molonglo observatory Synthesis Telescope operating at a frequency of 843 MHz. A 12 hr observation was made with the field center at the position coordinates of the optical counterpart. No significant radio emission was seen corresponding to the center position.

The synthesis map however, showed the presence of two regions of radio enhancements almost equidistant from the optical source in the diametrically opposite directions/1/. The data is interpreted as due to synchrotron emission produced by the expanding jets of GX 1+4, similar to the radio jets observed in galaxies. Radio jets have been inferred for three galactic X-ray binary sources namely, Sco X-1, Cyg X-3, and SS 433. However, for all these sources no X-ray pulsation has been detected so far. The present observations if confirmed will be the first case of radio jets in a stellar system containing an X-ray pulsar.  相似文献

We propose a jet model for the low/hard state of galactic black-hole X-ray sources which explains the energy spectra from radio to X-rays and a number of timing properties in the X-ray domain such as the time lag spectra, the hardening of the power density spectra and the narrowing of the autocorrelation function with increasing photon energy. The model assumes that (i) there is a magnetic field along the axis of the jet, (ii) the electron density in the jet drops inversely proportional to distance, (iii) the jet is “hotter” near its center than at its periphery, and (iv) the electrons in the jet follow a power-law distribution function. We have performed Monte Carlo simulations of Compton upscattering of soft photons from the accretion disk and have found power-law high-energy spectra with photon-number index in the range 1.5–2 and cutoff at a few hundred keV, power-law time lags versus Fourier frequency with index 0.8, and an increase of the rms amplitude of variability and a narrowing of the autocorrelation function with increasing photon energy as they have been observed in Cygnus X-1. The spectrum at long wavelengths (radio, infrared, optical) is modeled to come from synchrotron radiation of the energetic electrons in the jet. We find flat to inverted radio spectra that extend from the radio up to about the optical band. For magnetic field strengths of the order 105–106 G at the base of the jet, the calculated spectra agree well in slope and flux with the observations.  相似文献

We report on multi-epoch millimeter observations of variable radio sources that were identified through the 6-cm Galactic plane survey by Gregory and Taylor. Although the aim of the original survey was to search for exotic galactic radio sources such as Cyg X-3, our multifrequency study in the past suggested that the majority of these sources are extragalactic. To explore intrinsic variability of these sources, we carried out monitoring observations at short millimeter wavelengths where the interstellar scintillation effects become less significant and stronger intrinsic variability is expected as the millimeter emission arises from deeper in the cores. Most of the observed sources show moderate degrees of millimeter variability indicating they are intrinsically variable. The spectra for some observed sources are flat out to millimeter wavelengths — similar to that of blazars. Thus the survey sample is likely to contain many unidentified radio-loud AGN behind the Milky Way.  相似文献

Accreting black holes in binary systems exhibit two properties that distinguish them from the vast majority of binary X-ray sources: (1) rapid ≤ 1 s variability and (2) bi-modal spectral behaviour. These findings are based primarily on the observed properties of Cyg X-1 where an estimate of the X-ray source mass from radial velocity studies indicates a mass of 10 M. The recently suggested black hole candidacy of LMC X-3 is based on a similar mass estimate. The X-ray properties are similar to those of Cyg X-1 in its “high state”. The unique spectral properties of these systems are used to search for other similar systems, and new “possible” candidates are suggested, that include several transient sources. A possible spectral connection between these systems and their more massive counterparts in AGN is discussed.  相似文献

Sco X-1 is a low mass X-ray binary system and with the recent observations of a resolved radio jet, the source has been included in the list of galactic microquasars. The observed spectral data in the 2–20 keV energy band fits a thermal emission. Above 20 keV, a hard tail has been reported on occasions. During our continuing balloon borne X-ray survey in the 20–200 keV region using high sensitivity Large Area Scintillation counter Experiment, Sco X-1 was observed on two different occasions. Even though the total X-ray luminosity of the source was different, the spectral nature of the source did not show any variation. The presence of hard X-ray flux is unmistakable. We present the spectral and temporal data in the hard X-ray band and discuss the results in terms of geometrical characteristics of X-ray source and its observed temporal properties. We note that the jet activity is similar to the microquasars, however, the absence of the large magnitude abrupt changes in X-ray light curve compared to GRS1915 + 105 suggest that the quasar-like behaviour is at a nano scale.  相似文献

A large (1455 cm2) hard X-ray telescope was successfully launched aboard a stratospheric balloon on October 4, 1980. During this flight four galactic X-ray sources were observed, namely the transient recurrent X-ray pulsar A0535+26, the Crab Nebula, Cygnus X-1 and X Persei. Here we report the results on the latter two sources. From Cygnus X-1 we measured a photon flux in the band 30 to 200 keV, of 3.5 × 10?2 photons cm?2 which is 6.5 times lower than that recieved from the source in a “low” intensity state in the same energy band. In addition, the photon spectrum in the same energy band was very soft and consistent with a power law with photon index α = 2.71 ± 0.14. Even if a simultaneous observation of the source at lower energies was not available, our data strongly suggest that we observed the source during a “high” intensity state. We report also positive detection in the band 30 to 200 keV of the low luminosity X-ray pulsar X Persei. In its spectrum we confirm the presence of a hard X-ray tail consistent with a power law (photon index α = 2.17 ± 0.42).  相似文献

A brief review of very high energy gamma-ray astronomy achievements is presented. The results of observations of the Crab nebula, the Cygnus X-3, Vela pulsar, radiogalaxy Centaurus A and 2CG 195+4 show that all these objects are the sources of very high energy gamma-quanta. The most powerfull source is Cygnus X-3. Its gamma-ray luminosity is no less than 3·1037 erg.s−1. The upper limit of quanta energy is no less than 1016eV. All sources are variable in different time scales, from milliseconds up to years. The nature of all these sources is not known yet, but known ones are pulsars.  相似文献

Ariel VI observations of Cygnus X-2 have revealed a rather flat spectrum between 0.1 and 1.5 keV with variable emission at low energy. Of the two conflicting interpretations of this object in terms of i) a distant high-luminosity (Lx 1038 ergs s−1) binary and ii) a nearby low-luminosity (Lx 1035 ergs s−1) degenerate dwarf system, our measurements support the latter.  相似文献

X-ray telescopes have been providing high sensitivity X-ray observations in numerous missions. For X-ray telescopes in the future, one of the key technologies is to expand the energy band beyond 10 keV. We designed depth-graded multilayer, so-called supermirrors, for a hard X-ray telescope in the energy band up to 40 keV using lightweight thin-foil optics. They were successfully flown in a balloon flight and obtained a hard X-ray image of Cyg X-1 in the 20–40 keV band. Now supermirrors are promising to realize a hard X-ray telescope. We have estimated the performance of a hard X-ray telescope using a platinum–carbon supermirror for future satellite missions, such as NeXT (Japan) and XEUS (Europe). According to calculations, they will have a significant effective area up to 80 keV, and their effective areas will be more than 280 cm2 even at 60 keV. Limiting sensitivity will be down to 1.7 × 10−13 erg cm−2 s−1 in the 10–80 keV band at a 100 ks observation. In this paper, we present the results of the balloon experiment with the first supermirror flown and projected effective areas of hard X-ray telescopes and action items for future missions.  相似文献

在密近双星系统Her X-1/HZ Her中,Her X-1被HZ Her掩食时的X射线光度变化,为研究HZ Her的大气结构,提供了一个直接的观测证据。

After more than two years of operation, the imaging γ-ray SIGMA telescope has accumulated several days of observation toward well known X-ray binaries. Four bright sources falling in this category have been detected so far: The pulsar GX 1+4 near the center of our galaxy, the stellar wind accreting system 4U 1700-377, and the black hole candidates Cygnus X-1 and GX 339-4. Moreover, SIGMA have observed three transients sources, which turned out to be also hard X-ray sources : The burster KS 1731-260, Tra X-1, and the Musca Nova. The properties of these systems in the SIGMA domain will be reviewed and a spectral distinction between black holes and neutron stars will be sketched.  相似文献

An East–West one-dimensional radio interferometer array consisting of 5 parabolic dish antennas has been set-up at Cachoeira Paulista, Brazil (Longitude: 45°0′20″W, Latitude: 22°41′19″S) for observations of Sun and some of the strong sidereal sources by the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE), Brazil. This is Phase-1 of the proposed Brazilian Decimetre Array (BDA) and can be operated at any frequency in the range 1.2–1.7 GHz. The instrument is functional since November 2004 onwards at 1.6 GHz. The angular and temporal resolution at the above frequency range are ∼3′ and 100 ms, respectively. We present here the initial solar observations carried out with this array.  相似文献

The galaxy cluster 3C 129 contains two radio galaxies, the prototypical head tail radio galaxy 3C 129 and the weaker radio galaxy 3C 129.1. The tail of the first radio galaxy extends over more than 15′ across the sky. In this paper, we report on Chandra spectroscopy observations of the galaxy cluster, complemented by new and archival radio data taken with the Very Large Array (VLA) at 0.33, 1.4, 5, and 8 GHz and by HI-observations performed with the dominion radio astrophysical observatory (DRAO). We describe the Chandra results on the properties of the Intra-Cluster Medium (ICM) and discuss extended X-ray emission detected from the host galaxy of the radio galaxy 3C 129.1 and from the inner jet of the radio galaxy 3C 129. Finally, we report on the results of an ICM/radio plasma pressure balance study along the tail of the radio galaxy 3C 129.  相似文献

Radio and gamma-ray emissions in Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs) are both related to the presence of relativistic particles in jets. With the advent of the Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT), and thanks to its large sensitivity up to several GeV, many observational results are changing our understanding of these phenomena. BL Lac objects, which made up only a fraction of the known extragalactic gamma-ray source population before Fermi, have now become the most abundant class. However, since they are relatively weak radio sources, most of them are poorly known as far as their parsec scale structure and multi-wavelength properties are concerned. For this reason, we have selected a complete sample of 42 low redshift BL Lacs (independently of their gamma-ray properties) to study with a multi-wavelength (radio, optical, X-ray, gamma-ray) approach. Here, we present results and images of sources in the sample (most of which have never been observed before), using new VLBA observations at 8 and 15 GHz. Beyond this sample of BL Lacs, the population of gamma-ray AGNs has also dramatically enlarged in the Fermi era, permitting us to discuss the presence of a correlation between radio and gamma-ray properties with improved statistical significance. We explore the radio-gamma relation with several hundreds sources and using both simultaneous and archival radio data, thus tackling the impact of time variability.
