One of the most basic tenets of special relativity is the concept of length contraction as seen by an observer in motion. Yet this aspect of relativity has never been tested directly, due to the negligible size of the effect when applied to most situations. However, as the Earth orbits the Sun, any two stars located out of the plane of the ecliptic will appear to change their angle of separation as viewed during three-month intervals. This is due to the fact that at one instant the motion of the Earth lies in the same direction as a line joining the two stars, while three months later the Earth's motion is perpendicular to that line. At a velocity of 30 km/sec, the expected length contraction would be approximately 18 micro-arcseconds (μas) per degree of separation. The Space Interferometry Mission (SIM) promises a resolution of ±1 μas in a field of view of one degree. Special relativity claims that this level of precision has no meaning, or only limited operational meaning, as it is smaller than the anticipated seasonal Lorentz contraction effects. Either, as the author believes, this level of precision is attainable, and special relativity is completely invalid, or the promised sensitivity level cannot be achieved without compensating for length contraction as well as aberration in published star charts 相似文献

随着先进复合材料在飞机主承力结构(如机身结构)中的大量应用,工程上迫切需要大型复合材料加筋板壳的快速建模打样计算、稳定性(刚度)和强度分析的理论和程序支持。基于稳定性理论,并综合复合材料任意加筋板壳有限单元和复合材料层合板壳失效理论等方面的成果,开发了一个机身复合材料加筋板壳结构的稳定性及强度分析程序(CSSAP)。该程序系统不仅可以进行复合材料(加筋)板壳的线性稳定性和强度分析,还可进行非线性稳定性和强度分析;可对较粗的网格划分,得到临界屈曲应变和后屈曲时的应力。通过一些算例与文献结果的对比,表明本程序系统能够满足工程上的精度要求。并且,通过对实际机身一个典型复合材料加筋板壳的计算,表明本程序系统也可用于飞机工程复杂结构的分析。 相似文献

通过水槽氧气泡流动显示和PIV测速实验研究了NACA0012翼型在雷诺数为8200时的流动特性,重点炎注了翼型绕流结构随迎角的变化。研究发脱:分离点和分离翦切层形成旋涡的位置随迎角的增大而向上游移动,同时翼型上表面流动分离后形成的回流区尺寸随着翼利迎角的增加而增大。当流动再附于翼型上表面时,在再附点附近能够观测到展向涡的三维演化过程,并能观测到展向涡的局部配对现象。 相似文献

When considering biometrics for a Personal Identification System, different modalities can be considered. The final selection will depend on specific application requirements. From the several modalities existing nowadays, vascular systems have appeared on the scene lately. Vein-based identification is claimed to be as reliable as fingerprint or iris identification, but with the usability of hand geometry or even the face. As with any other biometric modalities, vascular solutions have to be deeply analyzed for all relevant factors that could affect their performance or the security level achieved. This will show the analysis of the performance and security achieved by a commercial vascular biometric system, when being applied in several real-world scenarios. These scenarios will cover typical office environments to the more extreme environments, such as extreme light and temperatures, as those suffered in a banking ATM, or with high humidity such as in a gym. The results will show the strengths of this modality, as well as those points where further improvements are needed. 相似文献

The placement of multiple antennas on an air vehicle is one possible practice for overcoming signal obstruction created by vehicle maneuvering during air-to-ground transmission. Unfortunately, for vehicle attitudes where more than one of these antennas has a clear path to the receiving station, this practice also leads to self-interference nulls, resulting in dramatic degradation in the average signal integrity. This paper discusses application of unitary space-time codes such as the Alamouti transmit diversity scheme and unitary differential space-time codes to overcome the self-interference effect observed in such systems. The mathematical foundations of these techniques within the context of this application as well as computational performance gains associated with their implementation are provided. Issues such as the cost of channel estimation for trained techniques as well as the throughput performance of nondifferential and differential schemes for realistic air-vehicle motion are analyzed 相似文献

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPS) states that the Time Reference Scanning Beam (TRSB) Microwave Landing System will supplant the existing Instrument Landing System (ILS) as the recognized international standard as early as 1995. The MLS provides the ability to determine the aircraft's position in three dimensional space over a large coverage volume in the airport terminal area. This affords the capability to navigate and execute approaches throughout this volume of coverage. This technique is known as Microwave Landing System Area Navigation (MLS RNAV). In order to assess and further develop the potential capabilities of MLS RNAV, the FAA Technical Center has undertaken the tasks of performing analytical studies, as well as the development of a prototype MLS RNAV system. 相似文献

We compare the properties of Jupiter with those of radio pulsars and find a number of parallels insofar as the magnetic field, energization, and radio emission properties (pulsed, coherent, and microstructured), as well as a number of important presumed differences such as the Io modulation. High speed of aero vehicles including commercial and military aircraft, missiles, unmanned air vehicles, as well as conceptual aircraft of the future are imposing larger restrictions on the materials of these vehicles and highlight the importance of adequate quantification of material behavior and performance during different flight conditions. Erosion due to weather conditions and other present particles such as hydrometeors; rain, hail and ice, as well as sand, volcanic ash and dust resulting from residues in the atmosphere are eminent as hazardous on the structure of a flying vehicle and may adversely influence the lifecycle of the structure. This study outlines an extensive review of research efforts on erosion in aviation and provides a basis for comparison between different apparatus simulating rain erosion and their usage within the aerospace industry. The significant aspects of erosion testing and future prospects for erosion impact are further addressed for forthcoming generations of flying vehicles. 相似文献

We discuss the degree to which radio propagation measurements diagnose conditions in the ionized gas of the interstellar medium (ISM). The “signal generators” of the radio waves of interest are extragalactic radio sources (quasars and radio galaxies), as well as Galactic sources, primarily pulsars. The polarized synchrotron radiation of the Galactic non-thermal radiation also serves to probe the ISM, including space between the emitting regions and the solar system. Radio propagation measurements provide unique information on turbulence in the ISM as well as the mean plasma properties such as density and magnetic field strength. Radio propagation observations can provide input to the major contemporary questions on the nature of ISM turbulence, such as its dissipation mechanisms and the processes responsible for generating the turbulence on large spatial scales. Measurements of the large scale Galactic magnetic field via Faraday rotation provide unique observational input to theories of the generation of the Galactic field. 相似文献
