Recent advances in the art of estimating spectral densities have led to speculation that these same techniques could be used to improve angular resolution in radar applications. An improvement in angular resulution would be particularly helpful in sepingrating low angle returns from their surface reflected images. Despite the duality between time and space, however, it turns out that the low angle radar problem is different from the usual spectral estimation problem in a rather fundamental way. The unfortunate result is that the improved spectral estimation techniques are of little, if any, value in solving the low angle tracking problems. 相似文献

Exact and simplified expressions are derived for the calibration of raw target coordinate measurements obtained from a tracking radar, The measured target position in angle is indicated by the displacement of the antenna boresight. The true target position, however, deviates from this measured value because of such system biases as tilt (leveling error), nonorthogonality of axes, collimation error, dynamic lag, etc. These and other biases are accounted for in this paper. Bounds on the accuracy of unbiased estimates of the angular coordinates of a target, in the presence of a nearby interfering target, have previously been determined. These bounds allow for the angular resolution of two CW targets to an extent limited only by the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). An SNR of 40 dB will allow two targets to be resolved at less than one-fifth beamwidth (?/2 X) separation, for most values of target relative phase angles. The maximum-likelihood estimator for this problem, based on the outputs of a plane circular array of receiving elements, is found and simplified. An analog realization of the two-target maximum-likeli-hood processor is presented. This realization has the simple form of two single-target trackers each tracking one of the targets, linked by a decoupling network which accounts for the interference produced in each by the presence of a second target, when the targets are separated by less than a beamwidth. Results of an analog-computer simulation of the system are given and discussed. Finally an application to the finite-size single-target problem is given. 相似文献

Some important regulation properties of satellite angular momentum dynamics are investigated using a combination of reaction jets and flywheels. The optimal feedback controller is designed in such a way that system regulation, under large perturbations, to a proper bounded subset in Rn, is achieved by using reaction jets. Thereafter, flywheels are activated to bring the system to the rest (desired) state. The domain and the size over which reaction jets are active, as well as the corresponding fuel cost, are discussed. Further, the effect of linear as well as nonlinear optimal feedback regulators on system behavior is indicated. Finally, the range (in the state space Rn) over which the flywheels are capable of regulating the system is also studied. 相似文献

Assume E1 and E2 are the squares of two sequential envelopes from the sequential lobing of an antenna in a given plane. Independent thermal noise is generally present in the envelopes. The statistic e = (E2 ? E1)/(E2 + E1) has been used as an estimate of the angle to a target for the significant region of small angles compared to a beamwidth. For a nonfading target, the probability density and characteristic function of e are obtained in closed form. Thence, the exact bias, standard deviation, and rms error in estimating the noise-free value e of e are obtained for all e and signal-to-noise ratios. Angle tracking of the desired target in the presence of interference is a common radar problem. It can occur when the desired target is competing with a jammer, clutter, or multipath. Angle statistics can vary significantly for a tracking radar depending upon the nature of this interference. The angular mean and variance are presented for three different statistical two-target types for single and multiple measurements. Previously derived values are presented for completeness in conjunction with derivations not found in the open literature. The signal-to-noise ratio is assumed to be large so that the effects of receiver noise may be neglected. 相似文献
